You may not own ‪@bowerswilkins‬speakers, but you have probably listened to music or watched a movie produced on them. You’ll find them from Abbey Road Studios to Skywalker Sound and many more. The super-critical recording engineers at these facilities chose them for one big reason - they are incredibly accurate in reproducing the sound being fed into them. This is a lot harder than it sounds as many speakers either color the sound or miss parts of it entirely. When you have a speaker so widely accepted at the world's finest recording studios and video production facilities, it seems to really fire up your engineers to develop ways to further advance the state of the art.
Now, Bowers & Wilkins is introducing their new 800 Series Diamond models. They represent over 6 years of research with hundreds of improvements to what was an already incredible line of speakers. These are the 4th version of the Diamond models and actually the 8th series of 800 speakers, which surely says a lot about this brand's staying power. Think about that, 800 speakers have been used in some of the world’s best recording and video production studios for over 40 years!

I bought 5 Nautilus 805’s for my 5.1 home theater 20 years ago and the sound is still wonderful. It’s nice to see B&W continue to innovate. If money were no concern, I would have 801’s in that beautiful Tiger’s Eye finish. Thanks for sharing this.

@@AudioAdvice I’ve heard the 805 d4 and currently on the 805 d3 in my honest opinion, I only feel there’s about a 10 to 13% improvement directly from what the speaker implements. Obviously, not all the technologies are in this model such as the spider. The differences between those models may be a little more prevalent. Personally, though I don’t believe that it’s worth the upgrade for the difference. I mean sure there are variables such as the equipment you connected to the wiring if you want to get that crazy into it but honestly as it is rewarding they have a very good system. It is one of the biggest money pits of a hobby, if not, properly thought out. I myself actually would believe that it would be more of a considerable upgrade say coming from the generation of D2 or earlier. for me to consider an upgrade it would have to be at least 40 to 60% difference especially considering even the stair mount model is now up in price at 8500+ not even counting the $1250 that is almost in my opinion, necessary to secure your investment, so it really is a consideration all around that it has to be a definite, definite bigger improvement. Between those two generations. I could see the D3 generation being a speaker I stay with for many years. I actually like that style better than the newer one, even if there are scientific improvements to the sound, I don’t know it seems classier say is an example, like a grand piano just looks really classy. The newer ones my biggest scribe would be placement, especially for the ladder on top. Obviously, you would not want to have direct sunlight on that leather at any point, you would not want to see cracks or damage obviously with devalue them right away so it’s all a consideration. I’ve always been cautious on electronics. I appreciate your channel I know because you sell electronics it is a very fine line you have to walk between selling and being honest with people. Obviously you would not want to say well. This product sucks, but we’re carrying it anyway but you don’t wanna come off as hiding anything as well. You do a really good job of conveying information in a balanced fashion, and I always respected you for it as a company again thank you for your information and work.

Besides spending about $35K for the 801 D4s, you need to spend also about $20K for a fine Preamp, about $40K for a pair of fine mono Amps, a $20K for a fine turntable, about $15K for the speaker cables, about 7K for interconnects cables and about a $50K for an audio room. Patrick. Do not listen to them!! I own several B&W speakers. Currently my flagship is the 804 D2. Just sold those today and ordered the new 803 D4’s after listening to them in person at a local dealer. I was originally going to go with the 804’s but did not get to demo those. I did however demo the 805 and 803’s. Both were amazing and finally after great thought and selling some gear I ordered the 803’s. They sounded amazing and I was fortunate to have over 2 hrs alone throwing all kinds of music at the 803 D4’s.

I've been a B&W "collector" since the early 80's. The new ones probably sound great but recent entries seem to be lacking the same (older) craftsmanship. In this case; it looks to me like less wood, less labor to build & lower manufacturing cost. If I sound like an old guy it's because I am. It would take a lot for me to spend $8K on the new 805D4.
@AudioAdvice
@AudioAdvice 2 жыл бұрын
B&W has invested heavily in several 1M+ machines to remove some manual labor, but when you see these in person, it might change your mind. We have been a dealer since right after the original 801, these are by far the best built we have seen. Thanks for watching

I was really looking forward to possibly getting some 805 d3 this year, and these just came out. Bowers missed the mark with the pricing on these. This looks like either greed or COVID pricing. Your argument on price between the 805 D4 and 804 D4 is no longer a valid one. 14,000 from 8,500 is a big jump. Much more than that 10,000 price from launch. Should be reflected in an updated video. Even with the official stands from bowers and Wilkins it’s quite a bit cheaper than 14,000

@RennieAsh
@RennieAsh 2 жыл бұрын
Audio Advice +/-3dB it’s not as “flat as possible”. Furthermore, their off axis response is definitely not within that spec. There’s more to measurements than the brochure and sales pitches. Being used in studios also isn’t necessarily an indicator of being flat. The ns10 is used in studios and it has a nice midrange peak. There are speakers that measure within +/-1.5dB with a much more consistent off axis response - the reflected sound of the room which you recognise, will be much more neutral with a consistent off axis response. I own a pair of B&W. They sound nice. But I wouldn’t say that they are the most neutral speaker. What they do well is reducing the harshness in parts of the midrange response, and making music pleasant and a big sense of scale (floor standers)
