I understand surface makes it less violent off the spot. I also think you need a decent rev rate for this strategy because surface burns energy. A low rev player will run out of gas and hit like a turd.

People thought I was crazy using surface on pearl asymmetrical bowling balls on short patterns but it’s really effective than shiny balls

I would have never thought of putting anything less than 1000 on a ball for a house shot. It looks like this is something I need to look into trying.

I would like to see how a pattern breaks down differently with different grits. For example, how often would you need to move, and would you be able to use the same ball for a 3 game set? I have difficulty moving quick enough and/or not balling down fast enough when the heads go at my house, so I end up with terrible series.

Thanks brother! I shoot on a Sony FS5 mark ii Cinema Camera, and I use a Sony 18-105 mm constant aperture f4 G OSS lens with internal zoom. I want to get some sharper cinema glass... but havent invested anymore yet, as the 18-105 can do everything and was not cheap... lol

I know Mo is not a big fan of urethane, but there is a urethane craze right now that is not going away, would love to see an all urethane ball study by you. Purple Hammer vs. the World. ;)

I will! Episode 10 has a lot of release slowmos showing my release while using different starting hand positions, and episode 9 shows the motion differences. Thanks for the suggestion! A video talking about just the release is in order...

I'm a lower speed (12 at pins) bowler and probably Rev Dominant. With that said would you agree I probably need to have less surface (500, 1000)? Thank you! Note: Mostly house shot, 45 feet, medium oil.

How far was your pin to your pap? This is side roll or is that term only for an asymmetrical balls? I’m struggling on a 33’ pattern in league right now. I’ve been using 5” pins balls. One with surface (val @ 40 degrees) and one polished ( val @ 25 degrees). It still jumps too hard on the backend. Thinking getting another symmetrical ball with 1 1/2” pin to pap or a 6” pin to pap.

I highly recommend an asymm at 90 x 1.5 x 45, and/or a symm 90 x 1.5 x 45... that's the layout used in this video is a symmetrical... my assym is less angular even, video coming soon. Thanks for the support!

Bowling Science what about cover Mr Pinel? If I get a squash solid and use that layout could I sand the polish then sand the surface at 4000?

Nice video. I'm currently having issues with my polished short pin asymmetrical ball (Parallax Effect). Every time I play that line you were playing in the video, the ball seems to react a lot when it encounters friction. Would you recommend that I add surface to it? And what surface would be good for a short pin layout ball playing that line?

We usually recommend surface on a short pin. Our lane patterns could be different as well. What’s the layout on the parallax?

I start at 1000 usually for most of my stuff

@@BowlingScience I would need to ask the PSO who drilled my ball for that info. What I know is that he mentioned it being a 2 inches short pin layout. I had the surface at 2000 grit during my league this past Sunday, but it was hooking a lot in the strike zone I was playing (in between first and second arrow).

I usually drill a symmetrical as a first ball for beginners... Squatch Hybrid is strong, but still fits the bill.

Can I do this to an idol pearl to get it to come off the spot with more snap?

I think touching it up with a gray pad before play would do that, yes. The rougher grits beyond that will give you more hook, but smoother and earlier.
