I'm currently trying out both as a dockmaster for a boat club. I like the comfort of a deck boat (Bayliner DX2200.) The quick-turning of a bowrider was helpful when needing to make quick approaches during docking though (Regal 21 OBX.) The deck boat just feels more relaxed though, while not sacrificing too much with that snub-nosed bow. You might need to put 3 fenders on one side because of how wide the bow is when against a platform on one side.

My Bayliner rendezvous 2659 is by far the best deck boat I’ve had. Lots of space and storage. It is rather heavy behind my little Chevy 1500, but we make sure it out almost every weekend in the summer hear in WA

First boat a 2006 Crownline 180br. Great boat. Great first boat to tow, launch, dock, maneuver. After two years, sold and bought a 2005 Crownline 240ex. Great boat. I now have a slip/lift. This boat is smooth. Fast. Great for chilling or tubing or skiing. Great for anchoring and laying in the sun. It would have been too much boat at first but now it's perfect. Big enough that my desire for a tritoon is gone. This boat rocks!

We used to have a Princecraft Ventura 190, loved it, miss it. Im now looking at a Ventura 194. Its the perfect jack of all trades kinda boat.

Hello! Fantastic video! I’m looking for a boat for lake erie, i had a cuddy cabin before. What’s your opinion on deck boats, particularly the SR sundeck 260, for going out in a large lake like that, that you can often get 3-4footers. Should a boat like that be limited to smaller bodies of water? Thanks!!

Interesting. I would think that each individual class of boat's resale value is also region dependent. A V-Hull vs Deck boat's value will be different in the Pacific Northwest vs the Southeast. I may be wrong. Good info tho

My bias is our lake has huge waves so that is a prime concern for us. That said, I think you understated the difference in wave handling. A bow rider's narrower bow and steeper deadrise make it superior in big waves. Also, in 26 to 28', I think bow riders have higher gunnels, making them heavier. I have not seen a deck boat larger than 26 to 28', but I know fairly traditional bow riders go to 35'. If there are significant waves in your area, go with a bow rider or a tri-toon. You missed a manufacturer. Stingray. The hull design on their deck boat line is a great combination of bow rider and pontoon. It provides a dry ride and I have found it does well in chop. The beam is not as wide as you would find on a hurricane deck boat but not as narrow as traditional bow rider. It turns more readily without having to adjust trim and planes very easily. All in all I have found the Stingray hull design a great all around boat.

I’m in love with a spacious deck boat. With the capacity, power, and fishing/swimming abilities, how could you go wrong. It’s the jack of all trades.

As a person that doesn't fish, I prefer the "deeper" sitting of a bow rider. Feels like more protection for the family.

I had a bowrider 17.5 for a couple years. Newbie. I just got a 21 bowrider. I like speed and mine has doors. I was amazed at the quietness when I closed the windshield and doors. I didn't even feel the chill. I had no idea doors make that difference. I don't think a deck boat can do that.

I have a bow rider. Friend has a deck boat. I like them both. One thing I have noticed is mine "bow rider" handles rougher water better. I watched ther deck boat turn into a partial submarine. Took one right over the bow

I have a 1979 Viking Deck boat (24ft) and a 1994 Hurricane Deck boat (24.6 ft) Love the openness of both. But yes...they are both heavy boats.

Sean - after watching your videos, I have ordered my Tahoe deck boat. Should be delivered February-March 2021. The last boat I had was a bowrider and it was great. With this one, I wanted a bit more v hull and a wider deck like a pontoon. Great informational videos. Even though I am in Alabama USA, I appreciate the overviews and comparison videos. Thanks.

Does a 115 hp OB on a 18' deckboat have enough power to get a 185 lb middle aged non-professional slalom skier out of the water, or do I need the 150 hp? Also, how is the deckboat ride on choppy water compared to a bowrider? Does it slam or cut through the waves? Thanks, Steve

Hi, I'm a first time boat buyer. I would appreciate any help. 1 - Stingray 168 SC is it a good boat for lakes? I'm from Toronto, we don't have ocean here but I'm still a little concerned for any unpredictable huge waves that may occur. I appreciate your feedback and suggestions, thanks in advance.

I was disappointed you did not discuss handling and performance of deck boat at 9 to 18 mph as you made it an issue on bowriders

Bow rider boats sure are handy for carrying more passengers but they can’t just be non-bow riders converted to bow riders. They have to be designed with extra reserve bow bouncy to take the extra weight or the bow won’t go up when the wave come at it! Mastercraft boats learned this the hard way.

Kevin, they both hold their value well. The Sea Ray will be more expensive, and a higher quality built boat. Consider also Chaparral in your search.

Len's Cove Lessons in Boating yes. Thank you. I’ve come across those chaparral, they look amazing. As of now I’m between the 249 bayliner and sea ray 250/260. Do you think it will be as easy to get the Chaparral worked on and parts? How is the ride compared? Would you get a bayliner as a beginner. I like the Layout of the bayliner more.

bayliner are entry level boats, if you are just getting into boating, and you don't want to take a chance on a used boat, a new bayliner isn't terrible because it is priced as an entry level boat. A new searay bow rider compared to bayliner was almost double when I bought mine. ive been around boats a long time and can drive boats no problem, but im not the best mechanical person so I really didn't want to take a chance on a used boat that something could go wrong and im out the 6-10 grand i would spend on it. I much rather finance 25 grand and then after a while trade it in for the better boat.

Both these boats are from the same parent company. Bayliner is the entry level like a Chevy and the Sea Ray is the higher end model. There will be difference in the price and quality of components, like fittings, but they will often be powered by the same drive systems. If you are OK with the extra money, you can't go wrong with sea ray. They are one of the most popular and also used by boat clubs.

Because of Covid, a lot of people are going out and buying boats. You will find that most of the dealers are out of stock, also generally speaking you would shop this year for a boat next year, they don't tend to make huge numbers of extra units and just leave them laying around.

I agree, cuddy cabin boats are not as popular in the US as in Europe. For instance, you can't get a 2020 Bayliner VR5 cuddy in the U.S. and when I asked a rep about this, he said people simply don't buy them, so they only manufacture them on the other side of the pond.
