+klaxfaction90 It's time to expose the shits at NintendoAge for continuing to cover up for people like Rarebucky and trying to silence people like Tim. These people are everything wrong with collecting today. In that thread one of the moderators even admitted he wanted to edit Tim's post but "cut him some slack". I'm sure it was Bronty or B.A., two of the biggest shitheads on there

+Pat the NES Punk can stop smiling whilst watching the video. This prices have been getting out of control and glad to see guys like this come and burst the bubble for some of the games. Looking forward to see this happening even more. Is sad to see people completing collection and then sell them just for profit...completely ruins it for everyone who values games and the good memories and experiences.

It's nice to see there are still real collectors out there. I've been collecting for 20 years and since all this nonsence started over prices, rarity, size of ones collection and youtube views the last couple of years the hobby has gone from a true enjoyment to stressful agony. The way the people at the front line of the hobby have been acting has really turned me away from collecting. EVERYBODY is a RESELLER!

If you choose to "invest" in a market as volatile and unpredictable as retro games, you only have yourself to blame when someone opens up e.g. an old warehouse tomorrow and the warehouse just happens to be packed to the rafters with shipping crates full of sealed copies of that über rare game you "invested" in. I completely agree as a (mostly wannabe) collector (mostly of PC games atm) that I see no reason to buy multiple copies of the same game. I would also never buy a game because "I can flip this on eBay for many monies!" - if I stumbled onto a copy of, say, LSD: Dream Emulator for 5 bucks at a thrift shop (you never know), I'd buy it *because "that's a bargain and a game (?) I want to try"*, not because "I could get over 200 bucks for this thing on eBay!".

As we continue along the timeline, we're going to hear more and more about these collectors/collections- much in the way classic cars were being found in barns and hidden away, there's a ton of unknowns out there in the world of gaming. Sealed systems, periphs and games are in the hands of all manner of collector, and we probably only hear about a fraction of them.

I sold about 40- boxes or so of sealed GB games (some full of games, some empty and used for padding) (kept one of each game for me) to a collector that has a warehouse full of SNES and NES sealed games. This is good news. I really hope that he decides to pull the trigger and release them into the wild. I don't give two shits about the value of the games. I collect because I love video games. Make the rarest games super common for all I care! You screw over the asshats who horde games and artificially drive up the "value", and help people like me who just want the games in our collection.

I'm glad Ian touched on something I was going to ask. I'm so used to comic book and M:tG collecting that some of these numbers blow my mind. I can't fathom having six beta Black Lotus being found in some garage moving the price of the card much at all. Tarmogoys were $200, got reprinted to where thousands more entered the market, and it actually spiked in price a little bit before trickling back down to just barely under $200 So for a game to be $10,000 or whatever price, and *six* entering collector knowledge crashes the price is completely alien to me.

I'd love to see a bomb like this dropped in the turbo collector scene. After losing my collection in a fire, the the prices have gone up so much I gave up on even trying to get my collection back. And I know for a fact there are people who collect that have hundreds of games for it. A store I use to go to in Tennessee to buy from back in the late nineties, early two thousands had boxes upon boxes of hucards. It's a shame they closed down

You're right Pat, there are a lot of us out there who have a "solid" collection that don't advertise it on KZfaq and forums. Some people might not have ever stopped collecting NES since 1985. Some people probably bought hundreds of sealed NES games on closeouts and never opened them. Not saying that there are a lot of Stsdium events left, but there are those of us out there that could open our collections to the public and change the market.

just like my sealed EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) magazines that i still have most of them brand new sealed since 1989 to late 1990's that i was a subscriber since they began and always received 2 copies of each magazine... Priceless! Also have other brand gaming magazines of that time along with my mint SNES boxed system and one time played mint Nintendo 64 (played once) and was put in its original boxed since the day it came out! Priceless for me... Ya remember when 7 Elevens use to have Arcade machines in their stores? Yup, i couldn't stop playing the greatest fighting game ever in there.... Street Fighter 2....

so what is the general consensus behind how to sell sealed items in small quantities? I've got a handful of the GameCube kiosk games oct01 and jan02 discs. each time I sell one it seems to lower the overall value of what I have left. in this case do you just not sell and sit on it?

Kinda reminds me of when I used to actively collect comics in the late 70s through the 90s. There was issue #27 and 28 or Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man I think it was. The title tended to go into the quarter boxes, so these numbers did, too. Then the artist for those two issues (Frank Miller) got popular with his version of Daredevil, which als appeared in those issues. Suddenly, because those two issues represented MIller's first Daredevil work, you suddenly had people tearing apart those quarter boxes looking for the titles, and the value shot up virtually overnight. But then, hoping to make a hefty profit you had many of these same collectors dump them on the market, and just as fast as the value went up, it went down. Another one was a giveaway title, Major Inapak The Space Ace, from 1951. Had artwork from legendary artist Bob Powell in his prime. There were a few of them on the market, and again, price shot up. Then around the mid-70s a warehouse full of them was found. I have a copy I found at a comic store in the mid-90s I paid a whole buck for. Look on Ebay and there's a wide range of prices with 51 cents being the low end and I think I saw one for $129.99 (seriously overpriced). But yeah, I guess it isn't surprising that this would happen with games as well.

With the story of Stadium Events, I wouldn't be surprised if a storage unit or two are packed full of them, I mean, the ones pulled off of store shelves didn't just disappear, and if 6 were revealed, who knows how many more are in private collections, the price could go from $30,000 to $3 if more Stadium Events are found. This is exciting news, and I can't wait to hear more hard to find games be found.

This makes me happy! I really hope things like this continue to happen, and drive games back down to sane prices that the normal collector can afford. I would love to have a complete collection, but I also want to actually play the games. I guess I get the whole sealed in box thing, but it's really disheartening that when you see prices of things on eBay. Hopefully, this is a step in a more positive direction for the hobby. A big win for the "little guys."

He ran out of room and talked my Grandparents into using their basement as an extra storage room. Beyond other CIB things I've found in the basement, one day I found a box of 30 sealed SNES titles (ex. SMW, ALttP, Metroid, Turtles in Time, MMX, etc.) sitting around and next to it was a CIB copy of Earthbound. Here in Chile we have to deal with this kind of scumbags too. Actually the biggest problem with the retro market here put price tags based on Ebay prices wich are based on the rarity a game has in the US. Prices for games like Mega Man X2, X3 and Turtles in Time have skyrocketed during the last few years despite they're rather common in this country. I hope you guys are right and this bubble pops soon.
