for fucking real. I see so many builds that people with children have for full time and they don't even have a shower or toilet. And they post videos practically demanding praise for their half-assed builds when an extra 500-1000 could've gotten them a toilet and outdoor shower system at the very minimum.

I have been wanting to do something like this for many years now. I agree with pretty much everything that he said with regards to planning and equipping a box truck as a heavy duty RV. I would not make all of the same design choices, of course - but this was pretty much his point. Design it to work for you. Excellent video and presentation.

I didn't see how new the channel was at first and saw less than 1,000 subscribers and almost ignored this video. In about 2 solid weeks of 14 hour days researching "vanlife" and camper builds and stuff I've learned a lot. This video taught me in 30 minutes almost ALL of what I needed to begin with. PLUS dude had the audacity to have the single only bathroom I like. I've had a similar plan to this and I'll be forever grateful for the money you saved me man.

you may consider that all of the US has CDL and commercial vehicle laws regarding these types of vehicles. but no one on youtube ever seems to address that fact when doing these conversions. anything with a GCWR over 25,001 lbs requires a commercial driver license and most insurers will run this VIN and force you to have commercial auto insurance which costs 10 times as much as non commercial. You also need not for hire stickers to keep DOT off you at each weigh station passing. All these stealth builds come at a price, and a headache. will your build surpass the weight limits for CDL? likely not, but it won't prevent you from being eyed by every DOT officer out there and potential subject to testing and paperwork checks. A bus conversion seems less likely to be hassled.

Why would 49 people dislike this video? I'm just baffled by this. Who wouldn't want a full-size bathroom in an RV? Their setup is amazing for their investment in it. This setup would cost more than $56K in the "done-for-you" world.

I had a 1974 travel trailer that I got for $500. I gutted it to the studs and started over... it was pretty awesome when finished and I lived in it while I worked on it so it paid for itself. It did require me sleeping on a camping pad for about a month but I was at a campground so at least there was power and a shower house. It eventually got hot water on demand in a full shower and I bought the nicest rv toilet money could buy. And I did a real vanity too. Mine even had pocket doors too! Everything else was built around that haha. Probably had less than 3 grand into into the whole project.

If YOU build it, the RV you build will be up to a standard. The RV's made in the industry are not with a hell of a lot of corners getting cut. They also have a host of issues if there is ever something that goes wrong. Warranty of an RV in the industry is a criminal thing. Doing it this way, means you can do what you want, and for me that has great inherent value.

I put on in my garage. It cost me around $700 and I forget how much I paid a plumber/electrician to install it, but it has been great. Now that I think about it, I think the unit and installation was a total of $700. I have seen units far less, but there was some option I wanted that pushed the price up a bit. Endless hot water and high gas and water bills because my teenage daughter never wants to get out.

I would consider modifying the storage box where the shore power and water comes in. If you put a hole in the bottom of the box and fit it with a plug you can feed your water and electrical through and still be able to keep you door closed and locked. It would provide for a cleaner look as well as keep the contents of the compartment safe.

This is so awesome. You literally get 3 different living spaces, with a huge bathroom. My changes: Put the TV where the picture of the trees is in the living room. WHY IS THE TV OFF TO THE LEFT OF THE COUCH??? HAVE THE TV IN FRONT OF THE COUCH!!! Put the bar seating where the TV is. Put the bathroom in between the "cab bedroom" and the main bedroom. That way, the person in the cab bedroom doesn't have to walk through the other bedroom to pee at night. LOL Really cool build.

I’ve been living in my RV full time for over ten years. I like the bathroom but other than that it’s no no no. I want a real bed not a single narrow bunk. Since it’s extremely unpleasant to cook in the rain and snow a full kitchen is a must have. If you can’t cook and do dishes inside it’ll be a lot of restaurant meals or microwave garbage. Windows are something I use everyday, trying to live without the sun day after day would lead to suicide. I have a two foot square skylight I cover in the winter to conserve heat but that cover comes of on sunny days. You want windows. No full time RVer would live in this thing. When I say full time I mean no house to go home to. I wouldn’t even consider this thing for a weekend without an indoor kitchen.

I slept in a 8 x 12 Box Truck with a Translucent Roof for a few weeks. On Cloudy and Rainy Days and at night under a Street Light, there was so much light coming through the Roof. I saw the signage stating "this is a registered RV" but still wondered about weigh stations & the D.O.T. 'chase cars' on the highways. They do have ability 'I think' to run the licence plates & that should distinguish them. It's wrapped w/advertising as a business. Our State would question that it would need "commercial plates" because of the Business name etc... I'm assuming it's got RV Plates though. Regardless ->This is one very nicely done RV. This is an option for me to do to my extra one, it's a 2007 Freightliner Columbia (Class 8 chassis with a 24 foot box ) and it is fully paid for, it would be feasible because I can take my time, and work on it in my spare time. I drive a 2014 Freightliner Cascadia (Class 8 with 24 foot box) for work. It is myself and my partner, and it is also paid for. He has prior experience in cabinet making so he could do the majority of the wood working. I am glad people are considering this as an option because these expedite trucks don't get enough appreciation and they will see a new life as a happy camper. Thanks for doing this video. Oh one great idea I pass to every one and every one loves the idea?? Boats,,motor yachts,,sail boats, and from there you build with the million ideas you can get free,,and to turn it into a boat is breath taking in the end!! Remember,,everything is so well thought out because if it turns out to be a bad idea you are stuck with it?? The bad part,,,you can’t just walk around until it is fixed or your bathroom stops smelling like a stock yard or chicken farm?? God Bless.

This is seriously incredible! I swear I just threw away every idea i had for my tiny on wheels. This... this is the way to go! I'm sure gas isn't cheap but damn it's literally a house. Only difference is I'd put a sink and oven in. But the cab turning into a bedroom is incredible

A great video in that you talk a lot about costs and give prices--something almost no other van conversion video does. As for the on-demand hot water--almost ALL the class B van conversions use one and many talk about the installation, etc. They come in electric (not recommended), gas, propane and diesel.

Hell, I was eyeing an old broke down POS U-Haul box truck (much smaller) that would fit my army cot and Coleman cooler... for weekends at the scuba park. Alas... current events kinda trampled those plans (and my life). Seriously... this blew me away! Well done! Seriously... RESPECT! And NICE JOB! That's a beautiful build! Subscribed. Good luck! Wishing the best for you in the future.

Before beginning that journey I would do a serious cost analysis of even the basics of what ONE of those tires cost and the work involved in changing one especially the inner rear drive tires in comparison to a regular vehicle tire along with the hourly rate of a qualified diesel mechanic. Then take a peek at the fuel and DEF consumption.

That's a million-mile+ truck and a very flexible floor plan. I'm sure it would have have cost ten times as much (or more) to have someone else build it. Well done! If you really need a window or two you can always add a couple opening skylights and maybe some solar panels?
