I can't do my traditional style videos, so I'll do what I can do from home.

I think that turtles are some of the most interesting animals.

They sure are, definitely an underrated pet in my opinion

I live in Hawaii and I’m putting the finishing touches on a outside enclosure for a box turtle. Mainly the substrate and environment setup. A lot of the materials I can get from my yard, coconut husks from the various coconut trees, moss that’s been growing on a hibiscus bush, rocks from the stream in the back and the rest of a leftover mid size tree stump that I can cut and use the bark for a cave. I don’t need bulbs since Harriet will be outside and strives in this hot and humid tropical weather. Thank you for the tips! I need to make everything perfect for Harriet. We got her from one of my moms friends who has had her for around 50 years. I don’t know how long a box turtle lives but I do want Harriet to live comfortably for what remains.

What specific bulbs/lights do you use? Where did those clamp lamps come from? Upgrading my turtle’s aquarium and was just curious! Cool video!
@animaleducationwithcoleshi54813 жыл бұрын
Clamp lights came from Home Depot, we use a night time basking bulb 75w or higher, and a UVB bulb. UVB also seems to help with the live plants.

How many hours a day to you keep your lamps on? Do you leave them on when no one is home? I'm worried about fire hazard and or overheating when away.
@animaleducationwithcoleshi54813 жыл бұрын
I leave the heat lamp on all the time and only leave the USB and plant light on for about 10 hours. Your enclosure should be large enough for to have a cool side and a warm side so the turtle can move to whichever area they feel comfortable. Your heat lamp should not be resting against the side of the cage, or against any plants or cage décor to prevent melting or possibly fire.

I’ve had a box turtle for ten years, and I haven’t fed her anything alive other than worms and vegetables/fruit in addition to her dry food. Am I doing her a disservice by not feeding her pinkies? I don’t feel like me or my family could handle having dead rodents in the fridge or freezer (especially not babies), but if my Turquoise needs them then so be it.

If you feed them worms, crickets, hornworms and super worms that will suffice for protein requirements.

How much gallons for a baby box turtle tank? And how much gallons is a adult box turtle tank
@animaleducationwithcoleshi54813 жыл бұрын
For a really young turtle you could probably use a 20 gallon long tank but as they get larger you need at least a 40 gallon long. They need room to walk around, a hide and for a shallow water dish large enough for the turtle to soak in.

Wow cool vid! Box turtles don’t eat any of the plants???
@animaleducationwithcoleshi54813 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my video. No they don't eat the plants but they do tear them apart or dig them up from time to time.

What is the size of the tank or what size would you recommend
@animaleducationwithcoleshi54813 жыл бұрын
For an adult box turtle nothing smaller than a 40 gallon, as they should have a hide and a water bowl large enough to soak in.

Is a 20 gallon long ok to idk if i could fit a 40
@animaleducationwithcoleshi54814 жыл бұрын
20 gallon long isn't large enough for an adult box turtle, you should really look at a 40 gallon tank, to ensure your turtle has room to walk around, move between hot and cool zones, dig and a water bowl.

@@paolapallares8702 Use it to mist the cages to allow the animals to drink, raise the humidity and keep the plants alive
