Point #1: the fight always starts at "boxing range", not a kicking range. So if you want to throw me a kick you have to conquer the right distance, while I am in the right distance. #2: of course nobody of these martial arts train you for a fight with other martial arts. Nevertheless, you get specialized in what covers 80% of fighting time, you get very good reflexes and very good footwork. TKD is amazing as well IMHO, but since fights start at boxing range is problematic for that reason - also, because you got problems at throwing kicks with jeans. i agree boxing plus wrestling or some type of clinch grappling would be best in the street even if you know how to kick its usually not a good idea for the reasons he stated as well as ur not gonna have time to stretch out and also keeping ur balance and staying on ur feet is very important u throw a kick u can slip lose balance, someone can catch ur kick and bring u down on the cement etc it really depends on ur level and u also want to be able and ready to use a grappling skill to sprawl and avoid being taken and slammed down by a bigger stronger guy and have control from a clinch situation which happens almost all the time i would do boxing and judo cause with judo u use an attackers weight and momentum against them and throw them off of you or down when they realize they dont wanna get snuffed anymore and try to tackle or slam you

Boxing doesnt cover weapons like a bat and a knife, but you are right to an extent. There are loads of articles of boxers winning street fights, and in videos you can see that they not only defeat, but completely dominate the attacker so boxing can work in a self defense situaton, no doubt about that. But the number one thing, that trumps all else is situational awareness. Knowing where you are, whats happening around you and geting the fuck outta there the second something fishy starts happening. I speak from experience. Two guys tried to rob me, and I got out without a scratch on my body and with my wallet intact out of a situation that could have ended very badly for me. I ran away, but I feel no shame for it, considering I dont have a gun and Im not Jason Bourne. Anyone who says situational awareness doesnt work has no idea what the fuck he is talking about. Only thing wrong with mine is I didnt use more of it and react sooner.

I don't think it's always a virtue to run from every conflict. Evil thrives when good men do nothing. If all you're interested in is your own skin, comfortability and being safe in life, then you've got the perfect philosophy, the quintessential modern coward. Doing what is right, being principled and helping to defend your innocent fellow man from bullies and thugs when they are in danger, is more important than always running away. Which is why real men want to know how to handle themselves, you empower yourself to be able to act with principle. If everyone is like you, then thugs feel they have a free run of the place, as they are never getting confronted and held accountable, and can victimize anyone they want because all witnesses run in the other direction because they are too cowardly to face any fear.

I used to be a guy of "traditional martial arts," but I gave up on bullshit and now I understand the lines of reasoning such as yours. I strongly recommend styles like Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Boxing for personal defense, exactly based on evidence that so out there for anyone who wants to watch. I would just prefer to train Sanda, not because it is "Chinese" or a Kung Fu style, nor because of any nonsense related to traditionalism, but because it is a style that include many dodges like conventional boxing, many variations of kicks and a good repertoire of takedowns (which are allowed in competitions). And I think it's important to have a bigger repertoire of techniques that go beyond punches. So if a person has the time and disposition for it, it is good to add some grappling style, be it Wrestling, Judo or BJJ. There is also a record of specific situations where submission is the best alternative. It all depends on the situation and maybe boxing does not suit everyone (although I think it would suit most of them). I personally have already gone through a situation where the BJJ would have been perfect. A crack addict tried to rob me unarmed and alone, inside a bus. My immediate reaction was to punch him in the face several times, but his tooth accidentally cut my hand. My hand bled a lot. If I had already trained BJJ at the time, it would have been perfect, nice and easy. Of course, if I were a professional boxer, I might avoid this kind of accident, but it was just an example. Anyway, the video is perfect and if I have the opportunity, one day I will still train boxing.

With the shoes you just want grip and traction. Skate shoes actually work really well.. Footwork is everything. Honestly though there aren't rules in a street fight. You can use boxing technique in a street fight but you can also use a knife.. Always be mindful of that. Not everyone has the heart to stand up and fight like a man and they would rather kill someone than get punched in the face. Very solid advice though.

There are a lot of other reasons like fighting someone bigger or heavier , the usage of weapons , and finally on the streets you are not there to finish anybody you just have to dogde , put all your strenght on a good punch which usually will stop the fight do the same with the next attaker and then run.

Traditional Muay Thai seems like the guys don’t do a lot of footwork. They just kinda stalk and throw kicks/teeps and clench a lot. Not a lot of hands either. But Dutch style has more footwork and more hands.

Wing Chun, has full on street effectiveness, as well. Basic eyes, throat groin attacks works great for one or multiple attackers. Good wrestling is a game changer for sure, but one must know how to close the distance correctly. Thanks for your take, I agree with throwing out all the stuff that doesn't work. Keep it simple fast and accurately destructive...

+Mr Bluesboy except wing chun and other traditional martial arts are never practiced at full speed. There is no full contact, full speed sparring. boxing, kickboxing, and mma are all practiced at full speed, against opponents who DO NOT know what is coming. Actually to be fair and honest,all fighting arts have its pros and cons. Boxing is great and I love it but it would be a scary place to be on the ground with an accomplished Jiu Jiutsu expert tightening his grip like a Python with every amateur move his opponent makes,since most street fights end up on the ground.

the problem with muay thai is that as far as punches are concerned, non-boxers are to boxers what bows are to guns - and a street fight always start at boxing range.

Plan is to develop missiles with my punches. I will do three 5 minute rounds per day 5 to 6 days per week. Then I will carry some MMA gloves in my cargo pants pocket. Future fight plans are to give myself Big Distance from POS so POS gets first punch that will miss me but be on Video Camera of Store. Then I left jab to Close distance, Right Cross, L Hook, Knee to Stomach if still standing. But with my MMA gloved hands I will be throwing BOMBS against POS

Wrestling is not optional. No matter how good you are at throwing blows, if you fight long enough, you're going to end up rolling around eventually. Gravity's a bitch, but she's dependable. You have to have at least a plan B for when that happens.

You said a couple of incorrect statements in this vid so I'll respond to a couple of them: "Muay thai only has a teep to keep distance" you can just as much jab and cross in Muay Thai just as you could in boxing. Since u leave in Cambodia, you're probably referring to traditional Muay Thai, which has less footwork and boxing and more kicks. The Muay Thai taught in the west has just as much punching as in boxing. There are days were we only do boxing training (footwork, jab, cross, head movement, feints, etc). You can have the best jab, uppercut, cross, etc but if you fight someone who keeps his distance and kicks the crap out of your legs, a lot of the footwork and power in your punches will go away.

Every one think's there style is the best for da streets. Because that is what they understand enough to see value in. I think good boxing basics are very sound technique. But I am not overly impressed with boxing's effectiveness overall in a self defence situation. Boxer's I think will tend to be glass cannons in a street fight. Stand in-front of them for a second and you will get fucked up. Hold onto to them and refuse to let go or lay on them and suddenly a pure boxer will act like the sky is falling.

Boxing is not always effective as form of self-defense, some assailants will grab you, bear hug you and even slam you on ground, boxing is also unlikely if the space is too small because Boxing mostly works majority on distance and less in clinch scenarios. You have to combine it with basic wrestling takedown skills
@livewire08298 ай бұрын

4:10 have you ever heard of frontkicks? It's almost the same as a jab except more range, people are less likely to see it coming if they don't do something like kickboxing and if someone walks into it it can knock the wind out of you. edit: 5:08 aren't you talking about why boxing is supposedly better than other stuff? you can't just go "boxing is better because of range controll" and then not talk about frontkicks because "but I'm talking about boxing"

Boxing is a great martial art and I have some really good things to learn from it in terms of self-defense but it's far too Limited to be considered the best for self-defense, MMA is way more qualified for that category seeing as they add elbows and knees and not just punches into their art. Also this guy is interesting because he criticizes hipsters for wearing jeans too small when he's wearing a hat that's way too big as if he's some wannabe gangster from the early 2000s
@joeparry61163 жыл бұрын
You have a point but mostly people who train mma are above average in all arts boxing has basically perfected punching and footwork and on the street it’s nether to be perfect at something other than above average in my opinion but in a 1 v 1 fight the mma fighter would more than likely beat a boxer

I'd modify this a bit: Top 5 best Martial Arts in the world 1.Brazilian Jujitsu/Judo 2.Wrestling 3.Muay Thai/Kickboxing 4.Boxing (krav maga teaches weapon defense which is why I don't rate it since I believe it gives its practitioners a false sense of security around weapons when you should ALWAYS avoid ppl with them regardless of how skilled u are LOL unless u are 100% facing certain death if u don't do something). In a real life situation, it's always best to avoid conflict. You shouldn't fight someone just because they want to on the street and it doesn't make u a pssy to avoid such a person. There is rarely ever a positive outcome. If you fuck him up, you go to jail (and even if u don't, u need a lot of explaining and evidence to save your azz), and if u lose, than that's obviously bad. I don't know what u meant by 2. You're right for 3 because it is complete bullsht. I don't know much about actual kung fu in a street fight so I can't really say how effective it is. And yes, Taekwondo is mostly useless in a street fight imho.

You cannot rely self defense in Boxing alone because there's so many situations in real life, it's either a bigger guy than you and he grab u and u fall at ground, maybe a tall guy compared to you how can you trade punch? Lastly fist is so prone to injury because bones in our hands are only tiny. Best self defense is the combination of all style a. K. A. MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
