Quarry was special, he chopped down some pretty big trees in the Heavyweight division. He was very articulate until boxing took its toll on him, he was a great warrior.

Quarry was special sadly too small for the big guns needed to be 3inches taller and 25lbs heavier but admittedly he did get some scalps like lyle, foster, shavers.

Quarry actually had nice combination punching. Good fundamental boxing and nice compact punches. Much respect. RIP.

If Jerry had fought as a light heavyweight he would of been unbeatable.

London fought Patterson in 1959; Ali destroyed London in 1966. By ‘67 he was done. But I agree, on his best day he would not have beaten Quarry.

@@Lord_Hillcrest I'd say he was in his prime when he KO'd Ingemar Johannsson in 1963 (Ingo was saved by bell). That same year he beat Tom McNeely and Von clay. I don't know what you mean by "that Good" but the guy also beat Zora Folley, James J woody, Willie Pastrano, and Joe Erskine and put up a good fight against Floyd Patterson. Most of his losses were against top fighters like Ali, Quarry, henry Cooper, Joe Bugner, and Eddie Machen. Not everybody can become a Champion. He retired in 1970 with a winning record.

I think Brian “swallowed” it here, and judging by the boos so did the crowd.

I agree. I think London sometimes decided to go down and stay down when he didn't like they way things were looking during a fight. He did it against Ali and Patterson.

I think Brian who was generally very game decided to bail out of there at that stage of his career as he did against Ali.

Apart from Tommy Farr British boxers had always been second-rate until Joe Bugner came along. Mohammed Ali came over here and Europe the best we had to offer was Henry Cooper but he was no match for the Americans at the time. With Sonny Liston Joe Fraser Ken Norton Earnie Shavers that’s just a few at the top of my head Henry Cooper would never have got in the ring with them. I’m glad Henry didn’t fight these people I feel it would have shortened his life immeasurably. He was loved by us the British public
