Im very new...3 months in boxing and kickboxing. In sparring many times they pair me against tall dudes with long range. The first I immediately noticed that staying away did not work at all. I had to lose fear of being hit and go in. Their arms seem limited when you go in hard. Where if you have short reach...uppercuts and hooks to the body feel natural. Then they try to back up to feel in control again...i just rush in and keep them from being comfortable. Its a challenge. Many many times I been hit...but it seems like the only way. I stick to them like glue. Only a matter of time before I get knocked out though I know it. But thank you for the video. Trying to open up my possibilities.

@@mr.dozeoff2339 im still fairly new but I never felt the need to rush in while kickboxing. Actually...I never rushed in. Especially if you have decent kicks...then you might prefer to keep mid range even against tall opponents. what do you think?

@@arielperez797 I was planning on just going forward since I’m short and my arms are short and mainly relying on punching combinations like in boxing. However I would throw leg kicks every now and then

@@mr.dozeoff2339 if you are sparring already...try it out. Get in there bro. Get a feel for rushing in. And yea throw in a couple of kicks to mix it up. Oh one thing that might be annoying is if the opponent uses that push kick. You know the kick that I mean? You go to rush in and they will kind of push you back with a straight kick. Yea that can be annoying if you want to rush in. But if you are smart you can use that to your advantage. Bait them to push kick by rushing in and catch the foot...even kick their other leg to knock them off their feet. (Careful you have to release the leg after one strike...it's a rule in many kickboxing schools you can't just grab it forever) Kick boxing is way more open than boxing in my opinion. Way more strategies. Have fun man.

Steve - I’ve noticed that Andy Ruiz often gets under his opponent’s jab and counters with his own jab or straight right to the body. It can really wear down your opponent and might even get you a knockout if you hit the solar plexus. Those body shots are always a good investment.

I absolutely agree with you, Bill. In this video below, I share how "Breaking You Opponent Down" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZyji6-Xlamwfac.html can be accomplished with a strong attack to the body combined with "pot shotting." I picked Andy Ruiz to upset Joshua when he was a last-minute replacement. I had seen him fight on the same card as one of my boxers Joe Perez...on a Danny Garcia undercard. and thought with his style he would upset Jushua...and he did.

Break that body down...stay on their chest...don't let em' breathe...throw some looping shots...overhand rights too. My brother (former National Champion) was 5'2 he broke down many taller fighters. You must be in tremendous condition to fight with this kind of relentless pressure...but know that it can be done. Also try dancing outside getting taller guys to come to you...once they get close step to 'em and let those combinations fly rapid fire and thunder! Rain em in champ!

@stevevandewalle5177
@stevevandewalle5177 Жыл бұрын
"Reach" is measured from finger tip to finger tip. But your arms out to your sides and have someone measure finger tip to finger tip. The cm or inches of your reach is not as important as the skills and strategy you use to defeat taller guys, as taught in this video. Also understanding your true punching range when "stepping in with jab."
