The biggest thing I appreciate about The Woman King (2022) is the authenticity of the accents. I am Nigerian, 39. My whole life, I have seen crappy African accents from Americans. I'm like, there are Africans in every American city. Could they not consult them. I am also sure there are plenty professionals in that field. This movie not only successfully made Americans and English actors speak like real Africans, they hired, Nigerians and other actors of African descent who have African speaking people in their family. Not just the language, but the look. Africans have a very specific look, and the way we move our faces. Lashana Lynch was the mvp in my opinion of this. If I did not know her, I would have thought she was Nigerian. She is of Jamaican descent. This movie nailed the accents and behaviors as much as any Hollywood movie has ever done.

Historically accurate or not, once upon a time there was a group of female warriors called the Agojie in Dahomey. I'm sure there are books written on them or better still, a trip to Benin Republic, West Africa, should give more clarity and enlightenment.

I don't think people are disappointed in this movie because it is "historically inaccurate". I think they are disappointed because this movie completely rewrites history. It is not that this movie got a few historical details wrong here and there. It overturns history by portraying something condemnable as noble. This is just my personal take.

This is a very good movie. To the cast, well done. This movie, like many movies is an entertaining STORY, not a documentary. To the critics with slave mentality, check out the Trans-Saharan Slave Trade or Arab Slave Trade (c. 2500 BC), The Barbary Slave Trade (c. 1500's to 1800's AD), and modern day slavery, of which these same critics have nothing to say.

It's a good movie. But what I don't like is the changes from the real story . Because in The movie they said they fighting for Dahomey and protecting against the slave traders but that's a lie because in real life those women love the slave trades and they use to torture the slaves they use to cut off they Heads and throw them overboard. Those women was very bad people and really didn't care about anything they was just bodyguards for the king and to protect his gold and stuff from intruders

Oyo empire killed most of their men for decades and enslaved them thats why the women became warriors because of less men. The women got revenge on the oyo plus neighboring tribes by doing the same. So yes they are heroes to their tribe just like George Washington is a hero to white folks but me no because I would of been a slave. I encourage u to actually purchase African history books and not European books on the history of a different country makes no sense

This film is such an inaccurate farce that they even fall prey to that old lie that swords are super heavy. I literally laughed out loud when she almost dropped the sword as if it were a block of solid lead when in reality, most 1handed swords weigh somewhere around 1.5 to 2.5 pounds. When they can't even get that right, it's no wonder that they portray women as being super warriors even though history and basic logic prove this to be laughable.
