So much great music out of England, late 70's, early 80's. All with heavy heavy influences from Reggae. Mystery why Reggae never got as mainstream in USA as it is in the UK

Not a mystery to me. USA is 40 times as big as UK, that is some ground to cover. And America didnt really have several subcultures supporting it from the start ( add the subcultures love for ska as well) and I also think more Jamaicans immigrated to UK rather than to the USA so keep that in mind as well.
