Lot of people forget that Mac only really rotated the safeties at Baltimore. Now as Head coach he's trying to rotate all 3 levels (DL/LB/Safety). IDL: Murphy (3 tech/NT), Reed (3 tech/NT/1 tech), Williams (3 tech/NT), Jones (3-4 DE/EDGE) ILB: Dodson/Baker(MIKE/WILL experience), Knight (can be coached to do MIKE/WILL/SAM - has the athletic ability to play all, did 2/3 in College) EDGE 3-4: Mafe/Nwosu/Hall possibly shifting on EDGE rotations or lining up as down 3-4 EDGE. Safety: Jenkins/Love can do both FS/SS, Love can also play box/nickel. CB: This is a bit set, although Witherspoon can do #1/#2 corner, nickel, box, and I wouldn't be surprised if he sees time at safety where Love moves into nickel given his football IQ. MacDonald is taking what he had in Baltimore as really only one of the above rotations (safety) and now applying it to the entire defensive lineup. Gonna be quite insane to see what he drafts up. One of the most important things is pre-snap reads for a QB, and assuming these guys stay healthy (critical), offenses really wont be able to figure out Seattle. These are not guys they are TRYING to move around or teach how to rotate... all the guys I listed above already can do it... and do it pretty darn well. Point being, as an offense you have really no clue at this point (if Mac starts rotating the EDGE) who is doing what on defense. It's almost impossible to pre-snap read. The Center can't call out shifts/adjustments/blocks because you don't know who the NT vs. techs are... the QB can't hot route receivers easily because he doesn't know who the FS/SS or Box DB is.. and the RB is struggling to identify pre snap gaps because they don't know who the MIKE/WILL/SAM LBer is. Now this could all tremendously fail... because IMO Mac is doing something that the NFL has never seen before, but I think Seattle might have one of the most fun defenses to watch in 2024-25. There's tons of talent on the D... they were a collective top 15 PFF grade... Carroll's scheme was just out-dated. And Murphy should've been a top 10 pick... that was a steal.
