Menace II Society was so raw, I feel Wale. It was one of those movies that kept me up at night. For days. I remember being sad bc I just wanted Kane to make it out. Both great movies that will never get old.

For years I picked Boyz N The Hood, but after reviewing Menace II Society, I say Menace II Society because it captures how the mentality of every character was shaped by the conditions of the riots. In the opening Caine said, “When the riots stopped, the drugs came in!” Very profound and overlooked statement that shaped the narrative of the movie!🎥 👍🏽

BNTH was more sentimental because of Ricky's death and the way Dough slid for him depsite their brotherlybeef with each other. Menace was more realistic tho, and Lorenz Tate absolutely embodied his role as a minor and being a goon.

Boys in the hood is a better rounded movie discussing a deeper story not just about what's going on the hood but with racism and white supremacy etc. it's a wider scope of a movie, menace is great but it's just a typical hood movie with no deeper msg or wider msg. So it depends on what refreshes your mind the most. I rather Boys in the hood but Menace is a good movie too for what it was . It's just like comparing No Vaseline with Hit em up, both diss songs but the former is wittier and more creative discussing issues greater than just dissing band members but Hit em up is just raw no holds barred attack on those targeted. It depends on how your mind works, my mind is the more creative wittier one so that's what I'll always pick.

Boyz in the Hood had a bit more depth thematically, but Menace II Society was so raw. I think I enjoy rewatching Menace more but Boyz probably has the better overall story imo. That’s a hard choice😅

MC Eight gave menace its back bone though, especially when he hopped out that black grand national with the desert eagle plus Roc role felt more important then Lawrence when they was speaking that knowledge because he basically shattered Kanes ego. Boys in the hood basically described every ghetto in America at the present time but menace II society had out of towner not wanting to visit California fearing of not making it out the way depicted it so it menace II society.

From my perspective in Europe Boyz n the Hood showed the violence of American ghettos with a dramatic vision. It was a shocking societal film. After seeing this film you were thinking. Menace to society with the character O' dog we saw more of a cool vision of the gangster we liked the attitudes we wanted to be this guy talking, walking, shooting like this guy
