awesome! i am starting to make formal wear (but with stretch fabric) and have found dance wear tutorials much more helpful than actual formal wear tutorials :)

The formal wear im making actually leans more towards this costume style. I know, sounds weird. But my clients like stretchy and comfy!

OMG ur video is really good....I tried to find lots of info how to install a cup on the dancewear without pads...and the open back is not attractive if I m wearing a sport bra showing the straps on my back. This is the only way....thanks.

#1: fit and pin the cups on the person wearing them or on the dress form. #2 With bra cups, whenever possible, stitch only through the Princess seams so the seams allow give and reshaping.

I have a dress that I want to add a corset lace up to the side of the dress and have no idea how to do you have a video that can show me how to fix this dress

Hi there, sorry, but I do not have a video about making a corset. If you are making a dance or skate costume, I recommend you make a "fake" corset look over a traditional lycra fabric so you can breathe. Breathing is important :) True corsets are difficult to make and do not allow breathing room like dancers and skaters need. However, if you want to know how to make a traditional corset perhaps check resources (or google images) for THEATER costumes, PIRATE or STEAMPUNK costumes. If nothing else, you'll know what one looks like and can replicate that out of stretch fabric. good luck!

Thank you so much for this video! I make skating dresses and they are so helpful. If i sew bra shells into a lycra dress will the dress end up to small? Do i have to make pattern adjustments beforehand?

Great Q, Cumin! Because our dance and skate costumes are made of stretch fabrics, the leotards will usually stretch enough to allow for bra cups and padding with a one-cup size increase. For example, if an A-cup is adding enough padding to be a B cup, the leotard fabric should stretch enough. If the woman wants to go from an A cup to a D-cup, then the pattern needs to be adjusted to better accommodate the breast curve (or rather the bra padding curve).

I really enjoyed your video. Please how can I determine the breast cup size to use for someone whom her bust circumference is 40 but she is having a small breast & she is also fat?

Sorry, Akinyemi, I did not see your message earlier. Bra cup size used for dance and skate costumes is similar in size to the actual bra with straps that you buy at the clothing store. If she is an A cup, in a regular bra, then she is probably an A cup in the specific sew-in bra cups.

i want to buy a bra insert (push up shell). there r various shapes to choose from. My boobs r small /average. which shape of pushup insert should i buy to give tht clevage look and it pooping up? there is triangle, round, oval and many shapes. could u send me a picture of it? I DO NOT WANT a silicon one. need a regular washable n long lasting one.

Hi Sapna, I am sorry for the delay in responding. I had several comments I didn't see.... oops. I like Braza cups. They are foam and have a natural shape. You said your breasts are small to avaerage. Keep in mind that with small breasts, sometimes there is not enough tissue to create much cleavage. (I gave up on getting cleavage years ago! ha ha!)

Sorry, but I have no idea how to make a bra from step one. I make Dancesport, Country and skate costumes from step one but I always use ready-made bra-type items.

Have you ever sewn your own cups out of batting and covered them with, let's say...cotton fabric for comfort in the summer?

I have not. Sounds like some good option for women who make a limited number of dresses for themselves. Sounds like it would take too long for a dressmaker who makes a lot of dress each month... especially given that there are a lot of bra cup variations available these days.
