I’ve had my son write himself a letter once a year since he turned 10 & he’s 13 now. He seals them and I box em up. I will give them to him when he’s much older 💖 Wish my parents would of had me do it. What a wonderful gift!

I flipped this, I've written my son's a letter each year on their birthday, I'm giving my oldest his in 5 years when he's 30, my youngest is 15, so I've got a few years yet for him. I think they'll appreciate them then.

Man...bro...this hits me. I would tell myself to be more patient with my Dad. He was in a motorized wheelchair at the time, and I was having to do a lot of the yard work and other stuff, and as a teenage boy, I just wanted to go out with my friends. I would give him hell, and be so selfish. When I got older, I realized he was teaching me, and making me a better person. I'm just glad I learned it and was able to tell him before he passed 2 years ago from ALS. Much love brother.

Brad Paisley was class of 1991 and this video was filmed at his actual H.S. in the town of Glen Dale WV. LOVE this song. So much I wish I could tell my high school self! That I was more than the bullies made me think I was. That all the people who made fun of me for the music I loved wouldn't matter. That later on I'd have the time of my life meeting Backstreet Boys multiple times and getting the chance to be featured on a Christina Aguilera track. Oh... and Class of 2000 here!

I would have written: I know it's hard right now. I know the bullying seems like it will never stop. But I swear it gets better. You get to leave that small, close minded town and never look back. You get to see so much of the world you never imagined you would. And it's still hard sometimes but you're strong enough and smart enough to make it through. Also, don't listen to what that awful teacher said. She's bad at her job, and you're more than smart enough for college. The diploma on my wall and membership in a college honors society is proof of that. PS. Hug Mama Dorothy every chance you get. And Lucky.

I wouldn't write a letter. I wouldn't want to change a thing. Even one small thing could've made it to where I didn't meet my wife and have my girls and I wouldn't trade that for anything. There was a LOT of hardship and struggle before any of that transpired but I would go through it all countless times to have my family...

I'm only a couple years out of high school but some things that I know already that I'd write to myself at 17 is to be less shy and to push myself more in sports and to not take them for granted, because it really did go by too fast. I would love another chance to be under the lights on Friday, run out onto the basketball court, or to take to the baseball diamond. I suppose that's why I'm one of them that suggesting Kenny chessneys "boys of fall" and "I go back"

You laughed at Playboy it's hard to think my generation lived before internet, he was born before cell phones, my daughter was born before Instagram. Lol I would tell myself that I need to take my time and enjoy the moments because when you are getting older ( in bad health disabled) it's all the moments that you think about and what keep you company

My Grandfather and Brad's Grandfather worked together! It was Brad's Grandfather who taught him how to play the guitar. My parents and Brad's parents went to school together at Union High School in West Virginia. Brad's Dad Doug was always so supportive of Brad as he worked hard in his early years, even driving his bus. He has a wonderful family who gives him loving support. I went to school with Brad & knew him through there and my parents. I moved away but was extremely proud when he became so successful! In Glendale WV were Brad is from it now says " Welcome To Glendale Home Of Brad Paisley" The street he lived on growing up is also named Brad Paisley boulevard. I honestly can't think of anyone from his hometown or home State who isn't proud of him! I wish him nothing but the best and continued success and happiness for his family! He and his wife are really good people who do for others and they are loving and kind people. Something that is needed in this world. When this song came out is was nice to see a glimpse of the High School I once went too! I ended up moving and graduating at another High School but Johm Marshall and the Years I was there will always be in my heart ❤

I'd tell Myself to slow the hell down and stop taking things for granted that you don't even think about ...like falling asleep with Mom and Dad talking down in the living room as I lay there with the window open smelling fresh cut grass, honeysuckle and fried chicken with crickets singing in the background on a hot summer night...just the sound of the old house and my Neighbors even...that feeling of safety and never ending possibilities...take it in...your going to miss this one day!💔

The line “P.S. go hug Aunt Rita every chance you can” really gets to me. My senior year of high school so when I was 17-18, I went to five different funerals. There were a few that were getting older and we were kind of expecting it, and a few that were complete shocks to us. I went to a few my junior year too. It was a really rough time for me. This song has always been one that has gotten to me. Billy, I don’t know if you’ve done “When I Get Where I’m Going” by Brad Paisley ft. Dolly Parton yet, but I highly suggest that one.

Thank you for doing this one. I am class of ‘89 so can definitely relate to the words of hindsight wisdom. I guess it’s good I can’t write that letter to myself because that butterfly effect would definitely be going as it would be difficult to knowingly allow some of the scarring moments in my life occur happen. But if they didn’t, I wouldn’t be where I am and of benefit to others for those character building moments. But I do try to do the next best thing, and attempt to pass on my “letter” to my mini me’s, aka my children. Lol! Would like to say it was always successful, but I sure try. 😊

I would tell me myself to slow down and take in every moment especially with my Papa (Dad). I would tell myself don't to be impatient in love and don't worry about it. That it would find me when I was ready. I would tell myself to not take every thing so serious, I would have went to a few more parties, and skipped school a few times. I would tell myself one day I would have two people (daughters) who would love me unconditionally through it all. I would tell myself that life would be sweeter on the back side to never give up on my dreams and always stay positive. Most importantly I would tell myself to love MYSELF more.

I'd tell myself to cherish every moment. The good and the bad. At 17, I was married with 2 kids. 26 years later, we have 6 kids and 2 grandchildren. Seems like just yesterday we got together and our babies are all grown up starting their own lives. I'd tell myself to spend more time with my mom. Sometimes life gets in the way and we forget to stop and love our parents. I lost her a couple years ago and I'd do anything to hold her once again.

I took german for 7 years throughout middle school and high school, now I’m in college going for a minor in it (where I live is predominantly German heritage so there are lots of cultural influences and resources available to me). I had the opportunity to go study there for a month with a host family that treated me like their own daughter, and I made friendships across the world that will last forever. Even though I didn’t realize it then, looking back it’s one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Mine is kinda sad, but I’d tell myself to hang out with Devin more. And to warn myself to ask him out for milkshakes like I was going to. He killed himself that day.

This was the only song that I first heard when I was the age being described. I have no personal memories about Skoal cans and Playboys under my bed, but it helped put things into perspective. I didn't have any romance to speak of, but the knife in my back felt very real. The feelings at 17 are real, but hearing the future you say It'll be alright could mean the world.

17 was only 3 years ago for me, but that was right when my mama passed away. I would tell myself not to push people away, because they don't know how to react in those situations or what to say. Don't listen to the ones who expect you to go back to normal, because there is no normal after that. Go see the school counselor when you need to, and actually listen because she knows what she's talking about. Go out with your best friends and keep enjoying life. It's what Mama would have wanted. Anyway, this song gets to me now.

Class of '87. Small town, Fernley, Nevada. Partying at the water tower, desert flats. Outrunning cops across the county line, that already know us. They waited for us when we rolled back into town. Followed us home. Cops grounded us for the weekend from driving. Cool times.

The ending with Brad I think was MORP, (backwards Prom) and he got crowned king. It’s where the MORP court dresses up and tries to impress people to become MORP King. Less fancy than Prom. Lol. I’m from the Same HS as Brad (graduated much later). My parents went as well and my aunt was in a grade below Brad. Love your reaction to the video!

I would tell myself to not change a thing. There have been good times, there have been bad times, there have been good choices and there have been bad choices. But each and every moment has led to me becoming the man that I am today. Changing anything would change that.

I would tell myself to value people and memories because you never know how long someone will be around and in the end what really binds us are experiences and memories, not things.

If I could write a letter to myself, it would say to live in the moment because you don't know what you have until they're memories- but just wait, there are so many incredible things up ahead for you. Also, love hard no matter what.

I wouldn't tell myself to avoid certain things because mistakes are how we learn. If I avoid certain mistakes I made, it would change who I am, and I like who I am. Instead, I would tell myself that the good times don't last forever, but neither do the bad times. So enjoy the good times and endure the bad times and look forward to more good times. I would also tell myself to enjoy time with my kids. I gave birth to 4, but only have 2 left. I would tell myself to take notes when my elders talk to me so I get it right when I quote them later. Encourage my kids more and be more supportive instead of telling them what they are doing wrong. But most of all, enjoy life, family and do my best in everything I do.

I would have spent more time with my brother and sister. They both passed away while in their 30's from a very rare genetic disorder that affects the heart - it was discovered after they had passed. We were five years apart in age and life does get in the way, but when we got together... it was as if we had just seen each other an hour before. I am so thankful I have wonderful memories of us just talking and laughing... there was a lot of laughter.
