I have been thinking of this but my house is already wired via a 24V inverter. Except if there is a way to set the DC load back to 12V or 13V while the input power is 24V. If not, maybe DC to DC Converter will do the Job. My Rig takes up to 650W mining Kaspa. Is there any 1000W DC to DC converter? My Solar Panel is 300W x 4.

You should use a Fly back Diode for the Relay, because it can Store much Energy and if you diaconnect it it gives a big voltage Spike, witch can destroy the load stage of the solar charge controller
@BradCagle

Yes this is normally desired, however this relay has a built-in economizer circuit that greatly minimizes the holding current, and includes the flyback diode on that circuit.

Brilliant analysis!! I'm researching & learning solar so I know mono-crystalline panels are best. Ever experimented with Cigs Amorphous panels for early morning late evening power that the mono and poly panels can't compete with? I realize we have 500 plus watt panels which are more efficient than Cigs but they are getting better again due to Texas Instruments and others. What I like is they perform in low light conditions where the crystalline panels are lacking. Would love to see a video on Cigs but don't go buy panels, maybe a company could loan you a panel or just review the market and tell us what you think.

@BradCagle
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
The load port on the MPPT controller can only handle 10 amps (I think 15 max) which would limit power to the mining rig at 10a x 13.8v = 138w . Using that particular relay wired in allows 500amps, which is overkill but gets you well passed that 138w limit.

Nice idea. You can go up as high as 14,4V if stacking a few old car batteries toghether, and those are pretty cheap to get now that everyone has Li-Ion and they are interchangeable if the event of a unit dying out, which can happen a lot depending on the age of the battery - but that's ok considering the low cost. The only thing to consider here would be that when the batteries go low the pc should power down before they are completely drained because low voltage can stress components and the batteries itself, some auto-turnoff feature is required. Note: Battery port will act just as Load port once batteries are drained, this is because the battery loads up as much as possible and at the same time gives out the required amperage of the components, if the output threshold is higher than the input, sooner or later the batter port will only act as if the load port was connected, therefore you would have to actively monitor the voltage and cut off when under a certain level bacause if you don't you risk component failure.

Can I run a simple 24 to 12 volt converter off Amazon and connect it to the load line... I want to run higher watts, even if it is only for 6 hours.... I commented a older video that showed your 48 to 12...
@BradCagle
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use the amazon 24 to 12v dcdc converters. However I personally would not trust my expensive GPUs with those. Reason being if they fail, your mining rig might get the full 24v. The best way to do it is to use galvanic isolated dc/dc converters, this means there is no direct link to the higher voltage, not even the ground. So look for this kind of converter. The ones I use in my other video you commented on are 48v to 12v 1/4 brick isolated DC/DC, they are modules used in telecom. This is the one www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/826-ADQ800-48S12B-4L Now these are modules, so you have to build a few supporting components around it (a few caps). You might google search "galvanic isolated dc/dc converters" and find something ready to go.

@@BradCagle Which lithium battery run at 24 hours?
@BradCagle
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
@@Coneelfrancis Depends on the power draw of your rig. For example lets say your rig uses 300w continuously. Lets say you have a 100ah 12.8v battery. 100ah x 12.8v = 1280wh. So we take 1280wh and divide it by your rig power of 300w, and we get 4.2 hours or runtime. So not enough, but if we triple the battery capacity to 300ah we get 12.6 hours of runtime. So depending on the season, and your locay that might get you through the night so the solar can take over in the morning.

I do have a larger setup that does just that. I just wanted to show people how easy, and inexpensive it is to get started. I think running the gpus directly on battery voltage is a bad idea you should add a dcdc coverter to get stable 12v because the battery voltage is changeing with state of charge of the battery

So @19:30 you'll see I have set the upper, and lower voltage. Lower set to 12.40v, and charge is set to 13.70v This is the max high, and low voltage the equipment will see. So as long as you're comfortable running a bit higher than spec. Up to you, I've done it a lot myself without issue YMMV. I'm about to do another video that uses 48v, with a 48v to 12v Isolated DC/DC converter. This will be the safest, because an isolated DC/DC will not allow the higher 48v to reach your 12v equipment even if it shorts, etc.. Standard non-isolated DC/DC converters can easily short a MOSFET then deliver the higher side voltage to your lower voltage equipment.

How do you convert the 48V you're getting from your solar panels down to 12V DC? Is that all taken care of via your solar charge controller?

Yes. The charge controller converts the PV voltage down to the battery voltage.

It's going to cost way more than what it's worth to try and run 24/7 with battery. I'm going to make a video showing how to fall back to grid AC at night, and run on solar during the day. This will make better sense financially.

This is only 1 way to go but is it safer to put 1 good 12v PC power supply into the chain to just make things safer. I mean going like this straight is so risky?
@BradCagle
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm not sure how to quantify the risk. Maybe it's as risky as taking a lighting strike to your grid? Some say it's risky just to mine on your gaming GPU's :) We must assume risk is always there, now what is the risk level? This is the question brave risk takers answer :) That being said my main fear is the charge controller shorting, and allowing the higher PV voltage through to the GPUs. I've had this happen on a different controller, no GPUs attached luckily, just battery at the time. You can use a device called "victron battery protect" it will disconnect if it detects voltage >16v, which still may be too high, but may save you. On my other larger system, I use 48v, and a 48v to 12v isolated DC/DC converter. The isolation makes it impossible for the higher voltage to reach the GPUs.

@@BradCagle As i said 1 gold plated pwr supply can resolve the issue dunno why the presenter didn't include one to the story, it would be great to see how it works. Pwr supplys have oc curent protection by them selfs so if soemthing happend they take a hit not the other components. Thats all!
@BradCagle
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
@@blekibabic I'm the presenter, and I think you're missing the point. Let me clarify, If you use a PSU, you also need an inverter. These two components together will waste 20-40% of your power. The point of going direct is to minimize this wasted power. Is it more riskier? Possibly. As I said lack of isolation would be my concern. In the PSU you mentioned, it has isolation via the ac transformer, so presumably it may be more safe. At any rate, i'll continue with these experiments, and post videos as I come up with better solutions based on my results. Thanks

How many minutes does one Bitcoin take to make? Could I make £2.5 million in two days mining 100 coins ?
@BradCagle
@BradCagle Жыл бұрын
There are many different crypto coins. Bitcoin is one of them, however it really must be mined with special ASIC machine like an s19. Even with these machines it would take many years to mine a single Bitcoin with a single machine. So instead you mine in a pool with others, and you receive fractions of a Bitcoin called sats. As for getting the coins in your wallet, all you do it tell the miner machine your wallet address. Now other "alt" coins like Flux, Dynex, etc.. are minable with GPUs like you see in my video. Some of these coins are pretty easy to mine several a day, but they are worth far less than Bitcoin, like less than a $1. For example I have 10 GPU's I mine with right now, and I only make $3-5 a day. That will likely go up as we get into the crypto bull market. At one point I was making $40-$50 a day with those same GPUs.
