Slash's guitar stands out, but the "digging the tunnel" that makes the shape of the song is Izzy Stradlin, the rythym guitarist. He was one of Guns N' Roses main songwriters and they were never the same once he left.

In this episode of Brad & Lex, the frequent infectious kicks and snares turn Brad's signature "side to side sway" into more of an interrupted "sway bop" as Lex digs right in from the jump and gives the track back what it gives her while giving us a jubilant "rock bop".

A lot of guitarists would describe what Lex is saying as “Cutting through the mix”. Slash (and a few other great guitarists) have a way of making the guitar act like a secondary lead singer, so the sound cuts through the mix of the drums and bass, and doesn’t get engulfed by their tones. Many guitarists wait for the guitar solo to do that, but Slash, and others, can do it in the middle of a verse or chorus, without detracting from the song.
@stevedahlberg8680

I get what is being said, but that's just the distinction between lead guitar and rhythm guitar. The rhythm guitar (Izzy) works in unison with the bass (Duff) and drums (Matt) to keep the song moving forward. The lead guitar (Slash), much like the vocalist (Axl), contributes to break up what would otherwise be just a monotonous rhythm. Contributing in that fashion does place the lead guitar in the same light as the vocalist.

My wife was friends of Axl and he was highly misunderstood. He has lots of demons that come out when he is in front of the public. But when you get to know him outside of being "the front man of GNR" he is genuinely a good guy trying to fight some serious battles. And the woman he's referring to in this song was actually a quite abusive woman, yet like you mentioned, he was devastated when they broke up.

Younger folks these days have access to so many more music options than you likely ever imagined back before the internet made EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY available whenever you want, for "free." That includes ALL decades of recorded music, not just the ones you mentioned, but the ones before AND the 3 decades since the 1980's--nearly half of which had such technological development that WHOEVER wants to can now produce music and make it available to anyone. In short, the world's gone through an insane revolution and been inundated by an insane amount of not only content, but means/ease of CREATING content, as well as a drastic increase in the number of ways in which to be "entertained" outside of music. Oh, and I forgot to mention, we don't just have access to primarily [insert your region here] music now either, but music from damn near the entire GLOBE. The amount of music you had easily available to you back in the day is a drop in the bucket compared to what's available now.

This song was how I discovered Terminator 2 was going to be a thing. Somehow I hadn't seen trailers for it then this came on MTV with clips from the movie. So, at the time, new GNR and a new Terminator movie! I was freaking out. When I finally saw Guns N Roses about 5 years ago they busted this out towards the end and along with the song Coma was the highlight of the night for me.

You two are so great, the world needs many more real folks like you! More GnR would be great to see you do. While I know you get lots of requests for November Rain, I personally would love to see you do ESTRANGED! To me it is their Greatest MASTERPIECE, heartbreak is a great driving force in beautiful music & this song pulls it off like no other!

I always felt that G'N'R more than any other band kind of held the torch that the Stones have carried for so long. Attitude, powerful riffs, rock 'n' roll. For more Slash, gotta be "Anastasia" next, with Myles Kennedy doing the vocals. You'll love it Lex!

GNR the Great Band of tha Generation, they were RAW in the music and the lyrics. The madre great covers too, like live and let die, knocking havens doors, since i don't have you.... Ufff a lot of material you need to see.

The line: "With your bitch slap rappin and your cocaine tongue..." was printed on the inside cover of their debut album, Appetite For Destruction, several years before this song was recorded. It was an old unused lyric that never made it into a song on that first album.

This was used on the soundtrack for terminator 2. To this day in the middle of the main guitar solo I still hear Arnold Schwarzenegger saying hasta la vista baby from the original video

This is the song that got me into GNR. I was never a fan until I watched Terminator 2 and when I heard it I was hooked after I bought it on cd single and played it relentlessly. This song is absolute badss and goes so well with the video showing clips of the film as Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted them to do the song for the film. Everything in that song is lit, first the drums, then bass guitar, then lead and rhythm guitars and Axl goes hell for leather with vocals. In my top 5 GNR songs and probably that best movie song & video ever imho.

Lex - when a Band has two Guitarists, then YES, you'll hear two different layers. I'm a huge advocate of Bands that have two guitarists for reasons that would take volumes to explain. I'm fairly certain that it's the Drummer & Bass player that " Dig the Tunnel "

This was on the Soundtrack for one of the most incredible movies ever made for its time. I walked out of the theater with my mind blown. The scene where the terminator turned to liquid to walk through the bars, then the gun got caught on the bar..... awesome. Arnold was as a big of a star as there was in the world at this point. GNR was huge at this point.

8:15 - What she means is that the solo is not contained, and just like in Santana songs it blends into other parts of the song, even during vocals... so you have a solo not being a "solo" per se, but a complementary guitar flooding the arrangements.

digs the tunnel. Acts as an exhilaratingly serene guide through the background turmoil. Like the knowledge you've just won the lottery when trying to get off a crammed Chinese train in rush hour. I loved this song. I was around 10 when it came out, and whenever it came on I'd pretend to be a remorseless calculating killer robot :D
