Bradley Cooper talks about his new film, “American Sniper,” in which he plays Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in the history of the U.S., and he says the reaction of Kyle’s friends to his portrayal is a testament to the sniper’s family and the access they gave Cooper to their lives.

I'll never forget when I saw it the day it came out. It was only in 3 or 4 theaters in America and I saw it in Dallas with my wife, and a friend and his father. When the movie ended it was a deafening, somber silence that I had never experienced before or since at a theater. Excellent movie! Obviously very memorable.

This was not a left or right film. It was a story about 1 Seal & his family between deployments & the difficulty for the warrior in transitioning from war to home. I've looked @a lot of his interviews during the book tour & his goal was not the # of kills but he would have preferred to know how many lives he was able to save. The transition from battleground to home along with PTSD could apply to ant vet, including the Vietnam vets & their families. Taya gave him an ultimatum after his last tour - his family or the military. Without hesitation, he chose his family. When you see the movie, you don't see Bradley Cooper on screen, you see Chris Kyle. I'm hoping thar Cooper gets the Oscar for this movie. It's the 3rd nomination in a row & the transformation was amazing!! I hope the Hollywood actors can vote without politics!

He hid behind a balcony while his comrades ran out and got obliterated. He talked about his kill count like some nerd to plays Call Of Duty 24/7. I don't agree that he didn't want the spotlight either. He was appearing on every talk show and doing countless interviews right up to the week of his death. If he was alive now who knows what he's be doing. The movie exaggerated his status as an American hero but at the same time also took advantage of his death to add another layer to Bradley Cooper's performance. The movie would mean nothing if he hadn't died.

Why do people call this propaganda? You might as well call "Saving Private Ryan" propaganda since it's also about American soldiers. Believe it or not, a film can be about war, can promote America and paint the military in a positive light and still have story, themes and characters with depth to them. It seems really screwed up how much people wanted to avoid this film.

It's because Chris was a terrorist - by any non-emotional definition. Imagine China invaded the US to "free" it from its 2 party totalitarian regime that has enslaved the population in debt and imprisoned more people per capita than any other country (7x more than China); and one of their soldiers sniped every moving object that tried to "resist" the occupying force... I'm assuming any sane person would consider that Chinese soldier a terrorist. Anyone who makes an exception is suffering from cognitive dissonance.

How does having themes and characters with depth to them conflict with beeing propaganda? This could ve been made by Goebbels but since it´s American..

Ace Nothing M-W has a definition... Terrorist: a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. That describes US aggression just as much as it does Islamofascists. Are you aware of how many civilians the US has killed just in Yemen alone in the last few years?!

And you are telling me Chris Kyle is one of those people? You are telling me that he unlawfully harmed and/or killed civilians for political aims? No. He did not. You must look into his previous statements. This was a man that loved his country and family. He loved people. He did not regret any of the 160 kills he has to his name. He did not slaughter civilians, and you are entirely uncaring and disrespectful to say he would have.

Clint Eastwood’s version of “American Sniper” was a Hollywood production. The screenplay by Jason Hall mixed half truths with fiction. The scene where the “Hollywood Chris Kyle” looks through his scope at the young boy and says, “Don’t pick it up” was fictional. It was not Clint Eastwood’s or Warner Brothers’ intent to make a film that was historically accurate. It was their job to make a film that would sell a lot of movie tickets. The “Hollywood Chris Kyle” played by Bradley Cooper needed to be “sanitized’ for the big screen. There was no mention of Chris Kyle’s web of fabricated stories. There are people who thought the “Rambo” and “Top Gun” films were real…. as well as James Cameron’s “Titanic”. Some people can’t distinguish Hollywood productions from reality.

I am SO very glad for the controversy that the wildly successful sniper Chis Kyle and his wildly successful movie are generating!! How could it be otherwise?? Chris was no saint and neither is every soldier a saint (duh!), but Chris had the absolutely necessary core of a true saint: he was 100% a real man with a sacrificial heart!! There is NOTHING, absolutely nothing in the whole wide universe that would be more hated today by the PC Super Boring Hate Trolls (PCSBHT) than a REAL man! A REAL father! A REAL husband! A REAL American! A REAL hero! Chris is a real clean MIRROR where these PCSBHT can see their monster faces: the cowardly lovey-dovey, warm-fuzzies, falsely spiritual criminals that worship the lowest of the lowest in human beings, seeking salvation in the latrine of human sin and adoring it with murderous abandon. How could they not hate the man who killed the very objects of their demonic adoration, justification and praise?? Chris was showboating? He had bravado? It's time real men get the spotlight or grab it from the Ninnies!! EVEN AFTER DEATH!!

The movie ended up as a big propaganda movie like we saw in Inglorious Basterds. It's so pro-war, ignoring everything wrong with the Iraq war. Glorifying Kyle as a hero for killing 160 human-beings. As a european I hope this movie doesn't represent american people..

1000% agree. He hid behind a balcony while the real heroes ran out and got mercilessly torn to shreds. He never came face to face with the enemy once. It also took his death to make this movie a success...they were not only glorifying a sociopath but capitalising on his death to give the story extra grittiness. Like merciless killings of innocent women and children wasn't enough.
