Since we created this video, HRH the queen has passed away, RIP ma’am you'll be sorely missed.
Braemar gathering is the most prestigious highland games event in the calendar, attended by the Royal family and held at the princess royal and duke of fife memorial park, Cairngorms, Scotland.
We parked overnight in our camper van in the centre of Braemar for the games and watched bagpipe marching bands pass through the streets.
HM the queen normally attends but this year it was prince Charles and Princess Anne in attendance which pleased Sarah as Charles gave her a smile and we sand the national anthem to the royals.
The event is amazing, there's lots of sports happening including many different marching bands parading around the park.
Plenty of food and drink available and the atmosphere is superb! Especially as we'd originally booked our tickets for the 2020 event but, due to covid, we had to wait until 2022 to attend.
The drive to Braemar is stunning. From the South, it passes through Glenshee and the views of the Cairngorm mountains are spectacular.
We decided to retreat from Braemar for our second night and head south to the Kelpies to see them illuminated at night and take some photos. The rain had other ideas for us but it was an amazing weekend and we'll no doubt be back at the gathering in the future.
