I so love this piece. I was fortunate to play principal clarinet with an amateur orchestra years ago and we played this piece. It changed me as a clarinet player. Not overly technically challenging but my expressivity as a player improved quite a bit I think. I never knew how much Brahms loved the clarinet. Bravo performance. Favorite Movement: Adagio non troppo III. Some of the movements featured the clarinet more but that movement has the most beautiful melodies. I remember thinking there isn’t any music more beautiful.

I’ve loved this incredibly joyous piece for sixty years. Now more than ever. Makes me glad I have ears! Great performance, too- these guys get it!

I’ve loved it a bit longer (I’m in my 80’s) but it has stayed fresh. A voice from his (and our) youth!

This is a serenade in name only! This is really a mini-symphony by Brahms! 😄😄😄😄

This is what Brahms gave us because he didn't think he was yet worthy to write "a symphony!" The orchestra gives a sensitive and bright performance of this gem.

Best rendition of the slow movement I've heard. It can easily drag.

Nate Saunders not a perfect performance, but better than quite a few of them I've heard.

Thanks very much, @Faust Chamber Orchestra, for this fine performance and the YT post. Movement 3 is my favorite. I first heard it on a classical sampler CD distributed by Gevalia. Took me a long time to warm to Brahms, but he's one of my favorite composers now.

For a young man and up-and-coming chamber orchestra to start this work invoking shades of Kertesz and Abbado promises an interesting ride ... We're not let down.

The only thing you wouldn't expect to find in a chamber orchestra is four French horns and two Trumpets. May I point out that there was a chamber version of this Serenade which is, I gather, never performed anywhere. From version 1 we have the Serenade as we know it today. Parts of it belong to Bohemia and other bits are quite introverted. An intriguing mixture.

Big sound when needed, but also the subtlety that comes better from a chamber orchestra.
@timothythorne94644 жыл бұрын
Creced this is Brahms inspired by the Classical style of Haydn and Mozart. The music doesn't sound like that of the two great Classical-period composers, it's pure Brahms and it's just wonderful.

Me gusta ese "género " menor de la Serenade en la estela qué abrió Mozart.

Not sure if I'm right but this orchestra seems to have a reduced string section.

This is fantastic work. In my opinion, String part should be increased as wind and metal instruments are larger sounds than Strings.

More like a symphony than a serenade. Sybil Fawlty didn't call his music 'that racket' for nothing...
