They're fun as hell is what they are! I got one when I was just about to graduate high school like 8 or 9 years ago and it feels as close to snowboarding as you can get without the snow, in my opinion. It carves and slides just like a snowboard, and you have to maintain an edge just like on a snowboard or you can hardly control it. They're a realllllly cool combination between snowboarding and skating. I absolutely loved mine. I still have it back it my parents house, I ought to go find it. There's definitely a pretty steep learning curve for them though.. It would be damn tough to "master" it in one day. It took me a while to get comfortable enough to actually carve, slide, spin, and all that stuff and I used to snowboard and skate. Once you figure it all out they're so much fun. They're the most fun on hills that are fairly mellow, but still steep enough to get some good speed. When you're learning on hills, unless you're really familiar with snowboarding, you WILL catch your front or rear edge (wheels) and land on your face or back at least a few times...so wear a helmet kids (and adults) if you get one of these! And start out on really mellow hills and make sure you've got the hang of it before you try to bomb some massive hill on it otherwise I nearly guarantee you will find out what the ground tastes like. They're not really made to like "push off" like a skateboard, but moreso to let gravity and speed be your friend like a snowboard.

When I was a kid we got a bmx tube, twisted it into a figure 8 then slide the board through the 2 loops to create places to strap your feet in (works alright in half pipe)

Bought a board like this in the late 90's from F.A.O. Schwartz, it had no bindings though and three weren't enough hills in my area did I ended up taking it back... Was pretty sweet though
