Throughout Stevens’ history, its mission has focused on preparing students for success in a complex and technology-centric world. Today, no technology looms larger over humanity than artificial intelligence (AI). In February 2024, a group of six professors - Jeff Nickerson, Jacqueline Libby, John Horgan, Philip Odonkor, Lindsey Cormack, Brendan Englot -representing disciplines across the university’s four schools came together to discuss the effects of AI on their fields - and how its perils and promise could change the world. Watch for their thoughts on government regulation, ChatGPT in the classroom, the dying(?) art of coding and more.

More than 40 years ago, in 1981, I published a book titled “An Alternative to Marxian Scientific Socialism; Reduction of Working Hours Theory” it was the time of the computers entering the world economy and the businesses. News of robots that could do human jobs was popular. The Theory claimed that the Progress in the field of science and technology (or “productive forces” in Marxian terms) will render the human labour obsolete. It was based on my theoretical principle that “The human labour relations in order to obtain their means of subsistence is root cause of exploitation resulting in almost all kinds of evils in the human society.” Now, to make it short; at the end, I suggest that the teaching professionals in the educational field need to seriously think about equitable UBI for their future better if they lead the movement.
