This probably sounds pretty strange but don’t knock it till you try it - if you’re having trouble thinking up something good, stop thinking. My best ideas come to me when I’m watching a movie or running. If you’re stuck, take a break and find what inspires you the most !

This is the best advice it's still crazy to me how people don't realize nobody cares about the story they care about the characters and how they interact with the world. Good example is Baki and Dragon Ball those are not very well written franchises but people love them because of the characters and their interactions. Get the experience first then worry about either or not you have good ideas later
@CitruKori
@CitruKori 2 ай бұрын
I don’t know if my experience is special, but I don’t even have to try to think of rough plot lines. I’ll just be eating my breakfast someday and be like “what if there was a guy whose minimum wage job it was to take souls to the afterlife?” I should really make a list about how many comic ideas I’ve made, because the ideas just come way too often.

All I can think of are fanfiction ideas, but I really really really want to write my own original story that I can illustrate. I’ve got a few characters down but the world building is a large part that’s setting me back.
@spritvio639
@spritvio639 2 ай бұрын
The most important thing to do is to just keep going. Your ideas may start off feeling like fanfiction but if you keep at it they will eventually become something entirely unique and different. For your world building try to start off small like instead of an entire world, try a town. What does it look like? How are the people? Etc.

The one thing i have problems with is making progression of craziness seem subtle I keep making up the stories in my head switching from different stories and different timelines. My stories start off a bit chill but get more insane later on like most games, movies, anime etc. I only now come to the realisation that my story's progression is about as subtle as Fast and Furious going from illegal street racing to Mission Impossible with supercars or Batman going from fighting criminals to fighting Darkseid I think of the MCU (when it was good) as an example, how did they go from grounded stories to fighting all kinds of aliens and world ending threats? Just to give you an insight of how messy my progression is, it goes a little something like this; "Local junkyard robot rebuilds himself to combat criminals" many episodes later "Aforementioned junkyard robot saves the entire freakin world". Yup, seems like a bit of a large leap, doesn't it?
@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 2 ай бұрын
It does feel like a big leap but most stories get to there at some point. Just look at Naruto. My best advice would be to try and build up to it more with more arcs or plot development so it feels more natural. The other option is don't ease in at all and go crazy right from the start
@buira9482
@buira9482 2 ай бұрын
I know this is mostly a matter of personal taste, but you don't HAVE to hold back on the craziness (if that's what you enjoy writing). One of my favourite mangas of all time is Billy Bat, and what I love the most about it is how unhinged it gets out of nowhere. It's character list on myanimelist is something like "billy bat, kevin, hitler, jesus". It goes from 0 to 100 in one page and never goes back.

Here's what I've learned after watching this video, applying it to my project: Core Concept: A hero and a villain have to settle their differences to defeat the ultimate threat and save the world. The combining ideas part: When I first started with the world building, my main inspirations are Marvel / DC Comics and My Hero Academia. What if I make the crazy world of Marvel / DC comics with fantastical beings (demons,angels,aliens,undeads,werewolves,vampires etc.) have the style and hero society from My Hero Academia? (Also I was not expecting a vtuber model from this channel-)
@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 2 ай бұрын
That idea sounds cool! My only feedback with the two inspirations is they're very similar since they're both superhero stories. It doesn't mean it's going to be bad, but it does feel a bit similar to both. I like the idea of fantastical beings though so it could be cool! Good luck!!

Thanks for another great video! Inspiration can come from anywhere, and some of the best stories start with the kernel of a theme, character, or setting. Faulkner said The Sound and the Fury started with the image of a child climbing a tree in dirty trousers. XD I see so many writers starting out get overwhelmed with their lore and worldbuilding. You’ve given a lot of great advice!

My ideas mainly come to me randomly. Usually I am trying to get some other work down when I came up with my ideas. A couple times I am trying to think of a plot for one story and end up making a plot for a completely different story randomly. I have done the yoink and twist method twice for two of my stories. One coming from Misfit of Demon King academy. I was thinking about the reincarnation part of it and got the idea for a story I call Reborn kings. The demon king is born every thousand years to destroy the world and the gods choosen warriors must defeat him or everything will be destroy. The plot twice, the choosen warriors are also reincarnated every thousand years to fight. The second one I got while reading Mercenary Enrollment. I thought what if you take the same background for the lead character, switch it to military soldiers instead of mercenary and add super powers to it. Basically take Marvel or DC and add a super powered character specially trained to take down other super powered characters. I'm calling it Killer Hero. I even got one or two ideas from a dream before. Inspiration can come from anywhere. But you are right, everything has been done before so don't worry about it being similar to another story. Just focus on what makes your stories different.

I wanna say a few things 1- this is a banger as always and keep up the amazing work 🎉 2- right now I’m creating a manga one shot about a young boy and his bully at a parent principal meeting due to fighting. I already done the script months before and now I’m doing the character designs. I had gotten the idea from MHA. Mostly from the dynamic of Deku and Bakugo. As I always wanted their dynamic to be explore some more and how it effects Deku. 3-And I wanna say this from a very very beginner to another. Don’t feel bad of taking story plots and using it as your own. Nothing is original. And unless you’re going beat for beat of another media franchise and only changing the name or something. You’re allow to create it and you’re not making an ripoff.

I wish to develop this stories further and eventually post them as a web manga, but im having issues when it comes to organizing the plot further from the base concept

Thanks for great video. In my case, when I try to think of ideas for my core story, I usually just look back at the manga and anime or other western series that I watched. See what their issues are, what makes them successful, and just mix it up and see how I can incorporate or improve whatever I have in my sorry. Overall my core idea is a combination of Bleach, Kagurabachi, Hellboy and the Percy Jackson series.

When it comes to brainstorming, I approach it both traditionally and untraditionally. Traditionally, I set aside time before I start writing to organize my ideas clearly and concisely, usually taking about a week. Untraditionally, I draw inspiration from everyday life. Ideas often come to me spontaneously, either new concepts or expansions of previous ones. For example, while rewatching Thor: Ragnarok, I thought about combining the Sakaar and Asgard plots. This led me to create a character and a potential storyline: a demigod who can bend reality, so chaotic that the gods had to seal her away. Years later, after her release, she challenges the heroes to a life-or-death game they can't refuse.

I’d like to say for the record, that when I first got started on creating a webcomic around 2014, the initial concept was to combine together Tenchi Muyo and Guardians of the Galaxy. Basically, my protagonist has a harem of alien girls, who are essentially a ragtag bunch of misfits in space. The only nitpick I have about Tenchi Muyo, is that the alien girls could’ve looked more alien, much like the various alien species from Ben 10 for example. Do you know what I mean?

I've been working on a story for the past couple of years and its been rather slow going since I spent the first year or so, on and off again, figuring out what it was going to be and connecting 3 vague characters together (a chimera detective, a rambunctious masked man, and a flapper). It was initially inspired by 13 sentinels aegis rim and YS 8. Nowadays, it's about a blank slate teenaged girl who recently came into existence tasked with saving a city stuck in a time loop. However, despite having a couple idea of what's going to happen, I don't feel satisfied with how it is in my head. I can't quite pinpoint why tho.
@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 2 ай бұрын
THAT TEENAGE GIRL STORY SOUNDS REALLY COOL!! I think a good starting point is to just write out how it starts and completely ends in a few sentences. Then you know what to work towards. Depending on how long it's going to be, you can think of cool "story beats" your story HAS to hit at some point. Then you have an idea of how to work towards that. From there you can fill in the blanks with stuff that interests you, b-plots, side stories, other character stories etc. You don't need everything figured out at the start but having some kind of idea can give you direction!

Hey Monitor Comics! I have a question. (If you don't mind answering) I am having a bit of a predicament where I am attempting to make a manga, but I honestly can't draw. I have practiced over, and over again, and I made one good model of my main character, but now I can even replicate that. I don't really want to pay an artist to draw it all for me either. I have all the script written down, (with a LOT of help from your videos.) So yeah, I was just wondering what you think I should do. Practice more, or something else you might recommend.
@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 2 ай бұрын
I would say there is no harm in continuing to practice. You can only improve by putting in the hours and studying efficiently. If you want to find a separate artist, they will want to see a portfolio, or things you have written before, to prove you are a genuine writer. If that is the route you want to go, then write as much as you can!

i brain storm a lot by taking two stories I like and writing a basic sort of pitch combining the two. One time I even made a big spin the wheel wheel of a bunch of things I like from manga to video games. I like to also consider media I'm a fan of that I don't expect my peers are as likely to be as it could help me stand out more. Like most of us writing Shonen would have a lot of similar inspirations, mainly being the most successful Shonen Jump series so intentionally considering interests outside that sphere can help. Some media I like that's outside of what I expect most Shonen fans to also be into is chick flicks (Pitch Perfect is my comfort movie) and Monster High. I'm a doll collector which I imagine isn't super common among those creating shonen given it's a male oriented demographic and fashion dolls are targeted primarily towards women.

Seeing these ideas can be a new big change and I was hoping to learn how i can make my own story to get the audience's interest. I'm like interested into comics that are related to adventure and I would need to make different styles of making two ideas into one. I feel like if I want to make this story very creative, i would need to make a story and then figure out the character designs of their appearance into a comic form. But should I least try to make it super duper detailed or just go with the progress?

The best advice I can give you is to just explore your interests. For one of my characters, their original backstory was just literally the first Iron Man movie's first act. Overtime though I molded it into something unique. I changed the desert, to a small town close to the mountains because I like that backdrop. With the town I had to think about how the people were. At the time I recently played Majora's mask so I made everyone is depressed over something and so on. Following that you should have something completely different

Similar how? Like are they fruits too? Or just random powers anyone can pick up? There are some many directions you could go... Maybe they could be artifacts you wear or perform a ritual with that hold disembodied spirits that need a host and mind to exist? Maybe instead of fruits its food prepared by deities that grant unique powers to mortals upon consumption in a world of nothing but hunger. Both with benevolent effect or malevolent effects. How crazy do you want the powers to be? You want people running around as the living manifestation or elements or mythical beasts or maybe a man made out of swords? Or just simple powers like breathing fire or the ability to move plants. Or maybe versatile abilities like stands that can be wacky like turning people into readable books or turning inanimate objects into living creatures....
