Great job Chris! Very clean work and attention to detail. Here's an interesting trick with drilling plastic and a hole saw. If you run the bit in reverse, then it will make a cleaner cut and less filing. I learned that trick drilling lots of plastic for my aquaponics garden. Thanks for the video!

Good idea! I've been looking into a 33" tire but I wasn't sure if the tire would fit with the stock 3rd tail light. Definitely will keep this in mind. Screw the haters, it's the details that count. Do the work yourself, pay a fraction of the cost, and know that you did it yourself. That's what Jeeps are all about. Making them yours, no two Jeeps are the same.

This is a good quality mod. This mod is Illegal if this vehicle is driven on public roads in North America. The light modified is known as the CHMSL to the US DOT and its Canadian counterpart. The "H" stands for high. The standard requires that the CHMSL must be aligned so that the lowest part of the CHMSL is no lower in elevation than the highest part of the lateral tail lights on the vehicle. Whether or not you get stopped and/or ticketed by law enforcement, you are still opening yourself up for civil liabilities in the event of a rear-end collision whenever the vehicle is in operation. I think it looks very nice as a mod, but again it is not legal, or recommended.

got my mod finished, went to a local shop and got a 1/4 piece of aluminum sheet. took a hole saw and my drill press am made a 0.2800" washer and put it behind my 2" led light and took an snap clip to hold it in tight. it looks great and works great.. Thank You for the great idea..

Very nice! I am impressed! I would have never thought of doing that. When you took that saw and cut off your top bracket I about lost my breath LOL but I kept watching and thought WOW that is cool. I like to see how others mod their jeeps because it gives me idea's for my own, I done a mod myself just by watching someone else's video. Will I do this to mine...maybe not, to chicken to saw off a big piece of jeep but I bet you have more visibility out your rear window now.

Great video but I happened to find a large enough led light that fits perfectly in the 2013 rubicon wheel center. I pushed it in with the outer rubber lip laying flat on the exterior of the center hole. Although your method is excellent for a light smaller then the inside diameter of the hole. Thanks for sharing. I just wanted to mention what I had done as an alternative solution. Great vid.

So you took the bigger, higher, more easily seen light away and replaced it with the lower, smaller, harder to see light? I was hoping to put one in the middle of the spare IN ADDITION to the higher stock light.

The way it should have come OEM. Super bright LED would be much cheaper than giant metal bracket, 16 inches of wire, and crap plastic light housing. Center of the the wheel is where it is at.

Your 3rd BL is about the size of the single ALA brake/tail/tag light found on a Cj2a/3a. That was all the light there was on the back of a Willys.

i was going to do this mod but my light thats 2" is the same size as the hole in the rim, i have factory alloy rims. i need a light thats 1-3/4" or some outer way to mount it with out using the ring that you made out of the center cap. any ides??? I just finished the grill mod that came out great and looks great .. the antenna mod will be my next after this .

And for the detractors......same parts...just mount it in the top rear of the hardtop. I realise you did this so that really large dia. tyres can eventually be fitted without fouling the brake light....when parts prices come down for the 2018 Wrangler...some way will be found to fit it's adjustable high level brake light to earlier models.

Nice vid, nice idea....but tell me ...have you guys in USA?Canada too...not discovered copper grease? Every bolt and nut that I ever undo, gets a healthy dose of copper grease when I put it back together, so that if I take it off again in 5-10 years....it will undo easily......oh I forgot you only keep cars of any kind for 2 years max???

Nice job! I hope the light has a dot approved on it or if you ever get rear ended with a good lawyer you will be at fault for not having all the correct lenses. A buddy of mine had a street rod with a unapproved 3rd brake light and he was at fault in court because of that.

sorry i should have said mine was an 2007 wrangler, and i bought the rims of a guy he has a newer model. he went to dick creeper over sized tires and rims. i have to look around for some way or something to put behind the light so as it don't fall out from the back. but its a great mod idea you have.
