Just a quick video, talking about how I'm going to be rebinding some of my books to create my own special editions.

Great stuff! I'm excited for you about this new project and excited to see how you progress. I'm not generally what you would call a "crafty" person, but this idea has appealed to me for a while, also. No room or time to pursue it now, but I hope to sometime in the future.

Thanks, Craig. Yes it's a fun idea. And something constructive. And since it's my own books, only I can get angry if it all goes wrong! I'm working on slipcases and boxes at the moment. Will share more soon.

This is something I'm interested in doing at some point, but haven't really researched it much yet. Look forward to seeing what you do. Great content for the channel, as always. Also, didn't realize you had some published books. That's awesome.

Thanks! Yes its interesting stuff. I do want to get around to making books from scratch, but rebinding seemed like a way of easing into it.

I also played around with rebinding books. The big problem with rebinding cheaper books is that the textblock usually has glued not sewn binding, so it will not open nicely. Also most paper is not acid free so it will get discolored after some years. Making your own textblock is far more complicated of course.

Yes, it's never straightforward. The acid issue is often just a matter of time. Not much you can do about it. I do like the idea of making hardbacks out of paperbacks. That seems to be popular now.

Have you tried sewing any books that were originally glued?

Really interesting content. I'd love to make my own slipcases (solander boxes would be even better). But my two attempts so far have been complete abortive failures.

If you haven't already, check out the DAS Bookbinding channel on KZfaq. Lots of really great videos including some on slipcases and solander boxes. He recommends this book too which I have ordered. www.amazon.co.uk/Introduction-Bookbinding-Custom-Cases-Hollander/dp/0764357352
