Its because there was a glitch in one of the important game files that hackers could get into and delete your save file. @Crossing Channel talked about this on his channel

I just start to play NH the September 11. My brother is very into it, he is the one who play! Hahah but I noticed I can save the DIY cards in my storage, since October (I got the Halloween cookies but not the Cook option, so I save there with others repeat)

They are going to have to update the game at some point soon to add the 2023 balloon arc unless it unlocks naturally on new years day

Bruh the only thing in this update was a fix for a issue that hackers can use to put codes on your game and delete everything

Letting people grab creatures negates all value to catching them. filling up the museum is a single player experience harking back to the original. The online feature should only be used so that people can see your progress and comparing. If giving people fish and bugs were an option then that would destroy the intrinsic mechanic of the game; Returning to it every day and slowly making progress. The instant satisfaction would deflate the purpose of the game immediately. That’s it.
