Hi Gary, in answer to your question about how the pilots get in/out of the cockpit, to get in we used to have to place one foot outboard foot) on the seat itself, grab the handhold above the windscreen and bring the other foot over the central console onto the floor in front of the seat. You could then swing your body into the seat while placing the other foot on the floor. Getting out was pretty much the reverse process. It sounds a bit awkward I’m sure, but with practice it was second nature, we used to do this at night during rotors turning hot crew changes.

This kit just looks great.A fine job you ve done it looks so realistic.The amount of detail one gets today is mind boggling.I remember doing an Airfix Seaking the USN version in the 1/72 scale it was so simple.

Very nice indeed! I have pre-ordered it on the back of this video; plus you did it in my favourite livery for the Sea King! I remember for many years at our local airshow on the north coast of N. Ireland when the RAF would fly over and put on a rescue demonstration with the local RNLI lifeboat crew. The parked it in the local tennis courts so you could get a close up view while they were waiting for their slot - very cool!

Many Thanks , Gary. Between Drachinifel and yourself, I was persuaded to visit The FAA Museum@ HMS Heron, on Monday. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Well worth the hassle getting to the museum, being a non-driver, and ridiculously great value at £15 online booking! now have been aboard both 001 and 002 Concorde prototypes ( 001 is at IWM Duxford). Loved the Carrier Experience reconstuction, although, having been aboard HMS Belfast last week, I was paying a lot more attention to the ancilliary fittings than I should have, maybe! ( ie electrial boxes,FAP signs, etc). Of course, relevant to this video, I boarded the ASR Sea king they have on loan from the RN

Random thought about the radar sweep arm. Maybe carefully measure where it should be and score with a knife.. then paint the whole screen in green , and treat the sweep as you would panel lines with a white or yellow wash and wipe off the excess?

There is an optional decal for the big radar screen as switched on, but as mine is folded and parked the set is off.

Gary you mentioned contrast when you were talking about the cables at the back of the cockpit and it reminded me. You often paint propeller tips white and then overpaint with yellow as the white undercoat makes the yellow stand out more. Maybe you could do the same with instrument panel lights when you want to use another colour like red, green, yellow, orange etc. The white would make those show up more, especially through a closed canopy.

That's what happens with the dry brushing - some bits pick up white so when you put the colour over them they stand out a bit more. Just done it on the instrument panel of the Hurricane in fact...

I have just bought on of these kits and was watching another build video, and in the instructions it tells you to paint the inside blue humbrol 25 but Nigels modeling bench got in touch with airfix and they said it should be grey 125 they missed the one off the number, just wondered what colour you did yours Great video by the way

A great looking build and an impressive model. I saw this kit for the first time at RAF Odiham families day where Airfix had a little stand on 19 Aug. Even though helicopters are not my bag really I think I will get one. Being at Odiham it would be great if Airfix made a 1/48 British Chinook.

You'll have met Luke then, the researcher at Airfix who does their 3D scanning for future projects. I did tease him that his presence there meant a 1/48 Chinook in the future!

Yes he was a very enthusiastic guy and a great ambassador for Airfix. I agree a good 1/48 scale BRITISH Chinook would be a great addition to the range. Whilst in the MoD I worked in the Chinook project office on the Mid Life Update which was bringing our Chinooks up to the D model spec from a mechanical aspect. I also did some work on FADEC and two UOR's for Op Granby. I now see the aircraft has moved on a lot, especially with the cockpit instrumentation.@@garys_stuff

Gary your internals are out of this world. I don’t think I have seen better excluding of course the OCD boys in the dark corners, truly wonderful and as for your instrument panels , well by ‘eck Gary!! The growth has been so very fast matey. I guess building two kits a day will make or break one?! Lol 😮!! Have you considered buying say four kits and doing a ‘deconstructed’ display (I can’t spell diorama) that shows all the beautiful parts that you create but are not really seen? Bet you would win an award or two……if you wanted to enter of course. You could start taking commissions! Brilliant Gary Bob England

Thanks Bob! I did see a 1/48 kit of the He-111Z the other day in which one fuselage had some cut-away parts (lined in red in traditional style) and it looked amazing. Maybe the way forward for all the interiors that we lose!

If I were to express a diorama with a helicopter like this, I would like to express it with a Kidult of the uh-60j Blackhawk "119 Helicopter Version" rather than that helicopter! 3:19

Very nicely done Gary the interior was lovely especially the instrument panels pity some of the inside was lost but if you had not done it every time you looked at you would feel like you had not given it your all 😔 so 10 out 10 👍

I build the 1/72 version way back in the 70s with the rescued pilot(?) in the raft in the only markings available along with the torpedoes

I would like to build the italeri Wessex , the Airfix Lynx and this Airfix Seaking . I would probably go with the Seaking as its a new tooling . Please Airfix surprise us with a Puma or Gazelle or maybe a Wasp or Scout next year . I really enjoyed the build Gary one day you will learn to love helicopters 🤗. Regards Gav.

My feeling is that the yellow one will be a year 2 release (maybe late next year or early 2025). It's a hugely popular scheme, as is the commando HC.4.

@@MrPDoff the idea of this first kit was that it is the same airframe (XV666) in the four versions it has appeared in. Their game plan is always to have at least 2 future releases in mind with any new tooling kit - so the yellow RAF and the Commando HC4 are likely, also some export aircraft especially the Belgian SAR colours.

@@MrPDoff I would agree that Airfix are stepping up their game considerably. They have a very good team of designers, a very good researcher and management who back them. The new style starter sets are very good indeed, let down slightly by the tube of glue and the Humbrol paints, and their high-end kits are very good indeed. Also, from a creator perspective, they are very open and very helpful, they engage strongly with the digital community. It's good for them, of course, but they have taken that on very well. Looking forward to the Ferret and the Gannet, that's for sure!!!

A cracking build Gary, looks fantastic. Such a shame so much of the inside can't be seen. I'm sure some very clever person will in future eork out how to fit a small LED light inside to make it stand out a bit more. I hasten to add, that's not me, far beyond my skills.

I think there are mouldings for ceiling lights, and there is room in the tail for the control chip and battery...

Also loved the display of the remains of the Shorts 184 flown by "Rutland of Jutland": ironic that it was complete at the IWM until the Luftwaffe damaged it in WW2, and the Project to construct a Fairey Barracuda from 2 wrecks, + new engineered parts, just so one will exist somewhere- I have donated to this and encourage anyone who can, to do so

The Apollo recovery aircraft was an S-61, there are too many differences with the Westland Sea King especially around the engine bays. That's not to say they can't do one in the future with different outer shells...

Hi Gary. I really wish you hadnt rushed this one. It was really looking like you hadnt dry fitted anything and there was near zero sprue nib clear uo on parts before you threw parts together. I am glad however that you didnt try and get all removeable/opening panel gaps filled and completely flush as they really arent perfect on the real thing.

Nice video ! Well airfix where to start...but this one looks ok ,still for 2023 kit it got issues but looks good if you compare it with other Seaking kits that are available around all these years ,price is up there for sure ! I still dont understand why Airfix failing so badly to adapt to the quality that other model kit manufacturers produce ,for me after many many years the only very good model from Airfix that actually decide to buy and build... and really enjoyed was the Avro Anson !

he calls me terrible in 100 ways I will only say two reasons because it will take all day it is It takes me one day to do the cockpit the noticed I did it wrong and the other one is that it also the slats take me 2 days then mess up the plastic
