I got ahold of a brand new DR Pro XL 30 Brush Cutter. An implement with a 30 inch deck, and a 20 horsepower V-Twin engine. I run it through its paces, and do a thorough review on the product. Following the review I get a whole bunch of work done including clearing half the upper field, and a strip in the lower land to attract turkey for the upcoming season. In a later video we will run the DR Power EQ Woodchipper through its paces and see how it works!
I'm restoring my Great Grandfathers 100ac mountain top property here in VA. This channel follows me on that journey, while learning to hunt and fish it! With all of that, this channel also follows most of my outdoor adventures including diving, spear fishing and some DIY content, so if this sounds like something you'd enjoy consider sticking around, mash that subscribe button and follow along with my journey.

I've got the 30" cut dr with the Kawasaki engine and I love my machine, I do know they don't put Kawasaki motors on anymore, they are using briggs motor now and not a fan..my machine is a 2013, and is still like brand new.

I would have more content with it coming out but… I forgot to swap the battery and was trouble shooting electrical problems like an idiot 😂 I was wondering tho. How often do you sharpen the blade? I know a lot of guys sharpen once a season, but didn’t know if you though that was over kill

Thanx Bro ! I'm considering buyin' one 'cause I've got a lot of saplings over many acres, some are a bit over the 3" notation so I'm hesitant that this unit can handle them? A pretty decent job demonstrating this. I feel that D.R. should send you a nifty gift! 👍 .

I appreciate it. Wouldn’t that be nice 😂 It can handle a lot I’ve since hit a couple that were around 3” at the same time so I wouldn’t be too worried

Thank you for your video. We are looking at these for brush and field on our property. I am concerned about working on small hills and inclines on a ditch.
@AppalachianFarmHandChannel
@AppalachianFarmHandChannel Жыл бұрын
Well. It’ll have no issues on hills. The power line isn’t too bad but off camera I’ve run it up some mountainous incline. And ditches… off camera I’ve pushed it to its max and it’s beyond where you could walk without sliding down on you tail. I DO appreciate your comment and hope you decide to stick around. I’ll have more DR content soon!

@AppalachianFarmHandChannel Just got ours and tried it out. It is just what we need for scrub trees growing in the meadow. Walks through them like butter. Works on great on the hills, also. I just have to take it slow

That thing works great. Are there tractor rentals in your area? A brush hog would make faster work for you. That is some beautiful pasture.

The biggest issue is the drive way is almost 2 miles long so getting anything back there is very difficult. I will look into it though!

Isn,t the key switch designed to “switch the wires” that you got up under neath to do?
@AppalachianFarmHandChannel
@AppalachianFarmHandChannel Ай бұрын
Yeah… it makes no sense. Idk why they did that it’s about as dumb as it can get… you have a key to trip the system… but you still need to reverse the wires… hard to believe nothings wrong. I appreciate you comment I’d love to have you to stick around hit that sub button and watch some of the newer content. I’m getting back to posting here soon

Ive been researching these for a couple months as i have some property that wasnt managed well for the wildlife. A lot of sapplings, blackberry bushes and privot. Its hilly too. Too steep for my brush hog and tractor. The wildlife biologist said to get rid of anything under 4 inches. I looked into some forest mulching but dang, that's expensive. So i was going to get this and clear it myself along with a chainsaw and trimmer with a saw blade. I have to knock it down so i can start burning next winter. What are your thoughts on using ot for something like that?
@AppalachianFarmHandChannel
@AppalachianFarmHandChannel Жыл бұрын
I haven’t found a single thing that it wouldn’t go through. I will say going side ways on hills it can get a little difficult to control with the brake steering… But if you go slower it becomes more manageable. In 1st gear… it will crawl anything and eat anything, the next video I post will show some of the thickest stuff I’ve cut with it yet, and it did it without bogging. I’ve also had times where I’ve hit multiple 3”-3”1/2 inch saplings at once and it’s cut them fine. Thanks for commenting! If you end up getting one or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Thank you! Someone also mentioned that to me. I do think it would work, but I’m a pretty big guy. I weigh like 250-260 and there’s not much flat ground. I think it would be alright, but that’s just a lot of wear to put on a machine, when realistically… I need all the walking I can get 😂. I appreciate your comment and hope you stick around!

Man. Going back looking at it… so stupid 😂 100x easier easier now. When it was picked up they didn’t tell us how to get maneuver or change the deck out
@jjgregory4844
@jjgregory4844 Ай бұрын
Try putting something under the deck to elevate it slightly (a couple pieces of 2x4 laying flat) to take some of the weight off of the horizontal shaft. Makes it much easier.,a dab of grease on the shaft doesn’t hurt either. Nice job mowing, I hope the rental guys didn’t hear your admission of possible recklessness. (they might raise your rate or worse, deny you usage, oh no!!)

@@AppalachianFarmHandChannel I didn’t hear you say that the property is new to you but whether it is or not, you’ll find a balance of what really needs to be mowed and what doesn’t. It’s nice to clear the slate to see what you have and to periodically knock down nuisance volunteer plants and trees. It is also nice to leave areas go, providing kind of a maze and allowing more habitat (most animals like more cover, not less. They feel “safer” in a maze situation than they would out in an open field, you’ll be able to get closer to them. Also consider planting food plots for them in the areas where you don’t want to mow. This might seem a bit like chumming but they have to eat something and live (for a while) somewhere, right? You’re helping them out really in the long run. Nothing like easy food. Best of luck on all your projects. Be a conscientious steward
