On Tuesday December 6th 2022,
The R211T prototype cars (4040-4044) were sent out of Pitkin yard, running on its own power for the first time to undergo clearance tests throughout the system. The R211T cars had began testing at the Euclid Avenue station in Brooklyn, operating up the (A) line to the 42nd Street station in Manhattan, where it went down the (E) line to the Jamaica Center- Parsons/Archer station in Queens. Shortly after the R211T cars rolled into the Jamaica Center station, they operated downwards to Jamaica Yard, then returned back upwards to Jamaica Center onto a different track. Soon after the set got back to the Jamaica Center station, it operated up the (E) line and transferred over onto the (F) line to the West 4th Street station, and soon after to the World Trade Center station on the (E) line. After the R211T cars reached the World Trade Center station in Manhattan, it tested down the (E) line to transfer over onto the (A) line back to the Euclid Avenue station in Brooklyn, where testing was completed for the night.

In Montréal, the learned from Toronto and got the rubber bellows between gcxars to be flush with the oustide skin of cars so that in station, it prevents people/objects from falling through between cars. Would have expected everyone else to do it this way instead of still being forced to put tiny chains in the hopes of preventing people to fall through gap between cars (though that gap may not be large enough for whole person to fall though, it is likely enough to get leg stuck and delay service, especially with blind people)

I believe that the R211T with the open gangway parts between the cars will work out fine. However, I hope the R211A cars will have open gangways.

@@ItsAmaliaB The first R211A, numbered from 4060 through 4069, have no opened gangways. The R211T, numbered from 4040 through 4044 are the ones to have open gangways. I hope that more of these new railcars to come will have open gangways than to be separate cars.

@@videonut1988 I know that the R211A have only storm doors and no open gangways and R211T have open gangways. Also, I know that the R211S will be assigned to the Staten Island Railway. When I typed that I hope the R211A cars have open gangways, that was a wish and a hope. Thank you for tapping or typing to me.

Logical R211 Car assignments Base Order (440 cars) Most cars in the Base order are going to the A and C to retire 356 R46's at Pitkin Yard; the exceptions are the 75 R211S for Staten Island Railway and the 20 R211T pilot trains with open gangways. The A will keep their 10-car R179's. Option Order 1 (640 cars) The 640 cars in 1st Option Order around 40 of them are going to Pitkin Yard for service expansion on the A and C. The Rest of the 600 cars are going to Jamaica for the E and F. Since Queens Boulevard is the busiest corridor in the B Division, the design of the R211's with higher total capacity and wider doors are ideal for those lines. 570 R160's will go to Concourse and Coney Island for B and D Service, adding 30 extra cars for service expansion. All R68's and R68A's which cannot be retrofitted for CBTC, will be relegated to Coney Island to run on the N, Q and W lines, as Broadway will be the sole remaining corridor without CBTC; however this adds 72 cars in the process, also allowing for service expansion. Jamaica will be left with 720 R160's, adding 30 cars for service expansion on the E, F, G, and R lines (There aren't enough R211's yet to make Both the E and F 100% R211's, so R160's will be used on either or both.) Option Order 2 (405 cars in 5-car units) The 5-car units in the 2nd Option order, 195 cars will go to the C, with 110 of them pushing out the 88 R179's to the J and making all C trains full length at 10-cars each, and the remainder adding 85 more cars for further service expansion on the A and C. The rest of the 210 cars are going to Jamaica, 120 of them to make the E and F 100% R211's, and the remainder adding 90 more cars for service expansion on those two lines. Meanwhile, 60 more R160's are pushed out to Concourse for further B and D expansions. The Remaining 660 R160's at Jamaica are enough to also make all G trains full length at 10-cars each, and the remainder adding 155 cars for service expansions on the G and R lines. Option Order 2 (32 cars in 4-car units) All 4-car sets in the 2nd Option Order, 32 in total, are going to East New York for the M line. 88 R179 cars coming from the C will also provide service expansion; the J won't need to borrow from the L line as much, allowing them to keep more of their 276 R143's and R160's cars already configured for the unique CBTC system used there, of which there is more than enough, so they don't need new trains. To Wrap up: A/C/Rockaway Park Shuttle: 130 R179's (A Only) 695 R211's B, D: 630 R160A-2's E, F: 790 R211's G, R: 660 R160B-'s J/Z: 188 R179's, 40 R160A-1's L: 212 R143's, 64 R160A-1's M: 268 R160A-1's, 32 R211's N/Q/W: 416 R68's, 200 R68A's. May use a small amount of R160's During weekends when the B is not running. With these assignments the R211's can go to lines with the high ridership like Queens Boulevard Due to the wider doors and large capacity while other lines that have lower volume routes like Concourse and Coney Island get the displaced R160's from Jamaica Yard it makes no sense to assign the higher capacity cars onto lower volume routes while constantly overcrowded routes with no room to add additional trains are stuck with trains cars with lower capacity plus with the remaining R160's at Jamaica Yard we can make G trains run full length cars and provide service expansion for Both the G and the R lines

I would have 790 R211's for E and F service and 660 R160's for G and R Service which leaves the 32 (4-car) R211's to be assigned to the M line while the J/Z and L won't receive any R211's Because they have enough cars and they have a unique CBTC system

This is the potential R211 assignments -There is a chance that the 2nd Option Order could be Open Gangway - Since the R211 terms of design is wider doors and more capacity then the R211's will be assigned to Queens Boulevard I would have 790 cars from both the first and second Option Orders go to the E and F which will Displace 630 cars to go to Concourse and Coney Island Yard's for B and D Service - With the Remaining 660 cars at Jamaica are enough to also make all G Trains full length 10-cars each, and the remainder adding 155 cars for service expansion on the G and R lines - All R68 and R68A's which Cannot be Retrofitted for CBTC be regulated to Coney Island to Run on the N, Q and W as Broadway will be the sole remaining corridor without CBTC and can use a small amount of R160's when the B is not Running - With this the 32 (4-car) R211's will likely go to the (M) line as the J/Z have Plenty of enough cars and the L line can keep more of their R143's and R160's for the unique configured CBTC system used there which is more than enough so the J/Z and L won't be needing the R211's (E, F): 790 R211's (G, R): 660 R160's (M): 268 R160's, 32 R211's

@@keithsy75 You currently have and will continue to have the freedom and the ability to do that because as I stated in my previous comment, I said I wish that the MTA would bring in all open gangway trains but in all actuality they are not going to, I only said that because the open gangway design looks nice but just because something looks good does not mean that every single train is going to have it, Wishful Thinking.

I have a real spriital feeling that the R262/AS is gonna definitely have the same exact thing open gangways and close gangways I'm telling you that now. Don't forget about the Brand New R262/AS for the A devisin iRT lines.

I must mention that the suggestion could be a fantasy. All the older railcars and the R211A cars cannot be converted into trains with open gangways. Let us hope that all the R262 trains will have open gangways. This would be a first change for the A-Division, formerly the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT).
