By taking out the spark plugs, disconnecting the fuel injectors, and turning the engine over, you can get the water out. Whether it runs or not depends on ECU, fuel, bent/snapped rods, etc. But you can put water into an engine, Hydro lock it, Then get that water back out. #beentheredonethat lol

Emergency brakes are on the rear wheels and often don't grab well rolling backwards. Also, when you back the rear wheels past the water line there is algae or moss growing and even if your brakes hold you will slide right on into the water. If you step on the pedal your front brakes will stop you but if you got out of your truck to release the boat, it's goodbye truck. Hope this helps explain it.

Otherwise , the best you can do is try not to back in below the water line or like you said have help. On a crowded boat ramp there is usually some body who will pull you out with a tow rope if you are unable to pull out. It's a sickening feeling when your rear wheels just spin and you are at someone else's mercy! Have a good summer!
