Laura. It was funny when it looked as if Grant was going to lick the oil off the dipstick. This reminds me of a joke I played on somebody years ago. I got a brand-new paintbrush, a brand-new paint bucket and I put smooth blackcurrant yogurt in the bucket. When somebody walked in the room, I dipped the paintbrush into the yogurt that he thought was paint and I licked some yogurt off the paintbrush. He asked, “What do you think you’re doing?” I replied, “I’m giving this room a lick of paint.” Then I asked him if he remembers the scene at the beginning of Saturday Night Fever when John Travolta was walking down the street with a can of red paint. The person in the room with me said he didn’t remember that scene. I said John was ready to paint the town red.

I love your definitions Laura. The Spiky Thingies are Aerator Tines. The Twirly Pizza Cutters are Wavy Coulter Blades. Once the crops are coming up fairly good, dig down to look at the root system. Roots will not lie. If the ground is shattered good, the roots will basically go straight down to find moisture. But if the roots appear to take a hard right or left, this means that there is still compaction, and the roots are searching for the easiest way to find moisture. Grant talked about the Spiky Thingies (Aerator Tines) making holes in the soil. This is not necessarily a good thing. You don't want water or liquid manure to pool up in these holes. If the Spiky Thingies (Aerator Tines) are doing a good job, they should be shattering the compacted soil to allow liquids (such as water and liquid manure), along with air, to flow freely into the soil in all directions. Also, if there is good shattering, you may find that your wet areas will dry up faster. You may be able to recoup some wet land for profit.

I love watching farming. From a small child I grew up in a large family, all involved with farming in one way or another in north eastern Iowa. My grandpa had a Massey Harris, later Massey Ferguson, and Allis Chalmers implement store, an uncle who worked at the grain elevator, my dad who owned an electric motor sales and repair shop and with farmers, the John Deer plant and other large companies nearby he stayed busy. One uncle had a welding shop and a big welding truck set up to go to the farmers and make repairs. Most of my uncles, aunts and cousins worked on the family farms, some of my cousins are still on the farms, although they're retirement age like me. The best part for me is to see the strong family units that farming produce. Our country is in need of as many strong family units as possible and a lot less government interference. Anyway, I've seen you on some of the other farming channels I follow, watched some of your videos and subscribed just now. I look forward to watching all your videos.

That’s a very popular implement where I live at here in Texas. The dairy guys and gals love them. They use them in the cow pastures to aerate the soil. They use mostly straight flat disks and run the at 0 degrees with no baskets. And put new seed in. Doesn’t do all that much damage to the existing grass.
