They are still a big band in the U.S. The main thing is that Alternative Rock, and Rock in general, is no longer part of the Top 40 in Popular music anymore. It is mostly dominated by dance music and rap/hip-hop.

that's because their sound is largely influenced by the new wave British bands in the 80s. Even the name, The Killers, is from a New Order music video for the song Crystal.

They were first signed to a British label and lived in the UK for a few years in the early 2000s. Then by 2005 with the explosion of the Indie scene in the UK it seemed as though they were just another UK Indie band who had routes in the Beatles, and Bowie, then New Wave, then Britpop.

I know a million dudes from the throughout the American Southwest that sound just like him. He has an accent I like to call, "White Gridiron Football Jock". It's similar to the accent of Canadian Hockey Players (Eg Letterkenny's Reilly and Jonesy) but slightly more Texan and less sports based slang. To be clear, it's a very American Middle Class and Suburban accent but it's well understood by everyone else here since we all know that type of person (which is why the high school bully jock you see in movies is so cringey because the accent is not quite right).

Chas O.T.E that's actually very well documented in their lore. I think it was Ronni that had a cassette of the opening chords that he had worked on several years before even meeting Brandon and Brandon has a story how he listened to it in, I think it was maybe a Subaru he drove at the time, and being in love with it immediately.
@benhopp479

Almost correct. It was Dave (the guitarist) who had the cassette of the chords. Ronnie (the drummer, wouldn't join the band for another year after Brandon and Dave met). And it was Brandon's 1992 Geo Metro that he first played it not a Subaru.

I love his mellow vibe. He is definitely different than your average rocker. Brings back memories of me in high school when Hot Fuss came out, dissecting every lyric and listening to it non stop.

I didn't know this but I worked at a golf course in WA for a summer in like 2013 and listened to hot fuss from beginning to end almost every day! One of my favorite albums of all time.

I’ve been a fan for ages! I’m so glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve even if it’s not here. I’m in love with their music. It gets me every time. And Brandon Flowers is as hot af!
