Brandon Novak: The Journey to Recovery

Rehab Road Trips

Жыл бұрын

We were psyched to film such an inspiring event featuring professional skateboarder and motivational speaker, Brandon Novak, at Bright Future Recovery Avila Heights.
Brandon shares his personal journey of addiction and recovery, including his time as a cast member of the popular TV show Jackass (with stars like Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera) and his ongoing struggles with substance abuse and alcoholism. Brandon's story is one of hope and perseverance, as he has now been sober for 8 years and travels around to different addiction treatment centers to share his story. We are SO grateful for Bright Future Recovery, and their CEO Cheree Ashley, who designed an amazing event to inspire those in addiction recovery and encourage them to stay on the path of sobriety.
This event inspired the two of us to the max, and reminded us why we really do this work.
A huge thanks to Bright Future Recovery: Avila Heights for hosting, to Cheree for creating the event, and to Brandon for his authentic and amazing story of recovery.
Let us know in the comments below what you think!

The stuff he said about JACKASS..... Is sooo CRAZY because of the other Brandon's (BAM) dilemma! The series went on without him. It's so sad and it hurts! But like with SteveÖ and Novak!!!.... You GOTTA WANT IT!!! We can just hope and pray that Bam comes through the otherside and makes a clean break! The years if abuse DO catch up to you!!! Its something I'm learning now, though I was out through a WHOLE new set of circumstances that actually disabled me! All the hits my body took before I was in a hit and run by a truck! They're all showing.... and the years that go by will only truly show what I will be battling

I have a brother whos been lost in the throws of heroin (and almost every other) addiction. Hes seen friends and loved ones die, and turned our lives into a living hell. No matter what we do, we cannot help him. I wish with all of my being that he'll eventually pull out of it. You two have given me hope that maybe, one day, he will. Love you man. But to say I’m happy he’s doing so well, is the understatement of the year. Happy and proud. I’ve stared at addiction, both in the mirror and in the eyes of loved ones. Every word he says is true. No one but yourself and your higher power, whom ever it might be, can make the change. I can not thank you enough for this video. Stay strong every one, one day at a time.

I use to go out every weekend but when I found out that I have a fatty liver I had to stop drinking and I'm glad I did. I had a problem a very serious problem if I would've kept going I would be dead before I reached 40. Haven't had a drink since April 16th of this year I haven't felt better. In a way I'm glad it happened it was a wake up call for me to loose weight and stop drinking best decision I ever made.

Love this story, I’m sorry what you had to go through to live it but I always remember what you said about allowing our sobriety to come anything less than first. I kept your number but never needed to call it, Thanx Novak, you helped me get to three years sober.❤❤❤

Came by this video by accident. Glad I did. Off pills 7 and half years now. I was homeless, broke, very close to suicide. I met my wife..she never done drugs. I was high when I first met her. I fell in love and came clean to her about my addiction. From there I got clean, went to college and now I'm in test pilot school. I already have my commercial pilot certification and part time job as a charter pilot paying my way threw school. I have a life I never dreamed I could ever have. Money thought I could never attain. I thank God everyday he hept me from not getting a felony or over dose to death. It's possible. It's hard. But Im willing to battle every day, against my addiction to protect my life and loosing everything we have together today. I want it more than the high now.

I really enjoy listening to your story. I can't wait to get your books. You are slightly poetic when you speak. I too am in recovery, but from cocaine and alcohol. Just over 8 years & 4 months i have in recovery, this is my 3rd time around. I'm grateful I was finally able to open my ears, heart and mind to the ones before me in NA and AA. Upwards and onwards 💞😁

Recovery takes on many shapes and sizes man. It’s a good day if you didn’t use, and sometimes subs are essential to get us there. You’re still crushing it! Getting off subs is a great goal, and with the right support it’s possible!

I’ve met Brandon through a friend of mine that i haven’t seen in years so not knowing of drug disease or addiction. At a point of time I let my friend and Brandon stay at my home until they were approved for a place well my friend did something disrespectful and kicked him out and told Brandon you can stay while you wait for approval well he choose not to and go with his friend for certain reasons. Well that approval didn’t go through so I call a friend that rents home and the dude approved him right away. In the meantime Brandon was sober or I wouldn’t of allowed him to stay at my home they were working for a Christmas tree company at the time we grew a friendship and watching this brought tears to my eyes. I’m so proud of you Brandon & the last apart really hit my heart so not only can it relate to addiction it can relate to depression which I’m going through right now. That part oh lord hit me hard. I know Brandon won’t see this but thank you man and congratulations on all your success and glad I got to know you in those few months of hanging out and trying to help. God bless you Brandon.

Brandon i just wanna let you know that you've become a great inspiration to many my friend myself included, i just hit 5 years sober from alcohol and percocets on December 27th 2023, it was a bad ending that my POS self cant even remember because i was so blacked out from percs and drinking, but when my wife told me the next morning as i awoke from a drunken stuper what had happened and the things i did and could have done to hurt both of us, i could see in her eyes how scared she still was from the situation, i realized at that moment that i was DONE with it, I love my wife and i promised her as she cried to me that i would never drink or take percs again, now dont get me wrong i didnt beat my wife, or lay my hands on her i would never purposely hurt my wife thats not the case at all, but that doesn't excuse what did happen and the fact that i COULD HAVE gotten her hurt or worse.. Now, theres not alot that i have to be proud of myself for in life, but this is one thing i am proud of and that i often tell folks about. Quite honestly though this past year has been rough, ive been very close a few times to cracking a bottle, but i haven't and its a struggle almost everyday between stress at work and struggling financially it gets really hard not to visit the liquor store. Please keep making these videos because your are definitely reaching people man, they definitely help, Thank you, Brandon!
