@@SwiftNimblefoot It's a dog reference - one of the myriad sprinkled throughout the film. There's an old1970s meme in the UK of a little terrier growling the word 'zauzagez' and it was referenced in a Wall's sausages advert in the early 90s. So, yeah, in the UK in the late 20thC, dogs said "sausages" and that's your gag.

This film has easily the most accurate depiction of British soldiers (the regulars, not the bullshit special unit) in any film ever. The British Army are fantastic lads to work alongside, I'd rather have them alongside me in a fight than anyone else. Also, your crack about killing animals during training is accurate. British Forces ARE trained to kill small animals, for sustenance.

The sense of humour is very accurate. I once talked to a Padre who told me about a conversation he'd had with some 2 Para who had been at Goose Green: 4 mates had fought through a particular position, but only 3 survived. After the battle, the three went back to check the position and found their mate's body. They stood in silence for a few seconds looking down at him, and then one remarked, "That'll teach him to fart in church."

@tomsdottir The Padre at HMS Raleigh told us a story about a lad who he was asked to give last rights to, and he was a mess of barely attached limbs, blood and gore. Padre started talking to the lad, who burst out laughing, before saying "Ey! Sir! I'm the flag of the Isle of Man...with bollocks!!!" before dying shortly after.

This is one of my favourite films of all time. Great characters, doesn't take itself too seriously but at the same time a lot of love and effort put into it. A lot of great moments and great lines. Sean Pertwee's speech is up there with Quint in Jaws and Al Powel in Die Hard. The Cast commentary on the DVD is so much fun. Thanks for the Review BT.

One of the best werewolf movies ever made. The newspaper report at the end was a nod to the trashy British newspapers like The Daily Sport. In the late 80s and 90s they would often have stories like, "I slept with a vampire" or "An alien stole my baby" and other ludicrous headlines that everyone just laughed at and ignored.

YES. This is my favorite werewolf film. So many werewolf films seem more focused on the special effects but less thought is given to the story and character work (which is why I kinda like Silver Bullet despite its shortcomings, and I still gotta see Wolfen and Ginger Snaps, I heard good things about those). And it's impressive how much it stands on its own despite borrowing plot elements from so many other films, in the hands of a different director and crew this might've failed spectacularly, which is why it's a miracle. As for some of the questions you asked, I always assumed Megan got bitten in the hand during one of the attacks (I remember seeing the camera focusing on her hand in one small bit) and was simply always fascinated with them and finally got the chance to join them. I also think the werewolves in this film have similar rules to the ones from The Howling, in that silver AND fire can kill them. Tho, it appears as if getting a headshot is also sufficient enough, but you can always headcanon that Megan turned into a werewolf despite getting shot and died in the later explosion, and the silver letter opener wounded Ryan enough and Cooper shooting him in the head was simple satisfying overkill. There, Cooper shot the dog now, asshole.

I love how the movie kinda gives the idea that werewolves can be killed with regular bullets and blades, but they have a healing factor that makes it harder to do so. Which also allows the effect of silver to make sense, as you see it actually burn them like they are allergic to the metal. Kinda like how in Marvel the metal carbonatium is used on people with healing factors, because it nullifies that ability so it would be like a wound that would have to be healed normally or through medical interference.
