I appreciated that he respected the works. It was also neat to hit sections that were obviously written by Jordan before he passed. The style changed slightly and it felt like finding a letter from an old friend addressed to you

He 100% did a fantastic job. Those last three books were the first ones (of any series) that brought me to tears with the emotional moments.

I was really hoping Setalle Anan would have bumped into an Ashaman who could’ve healed her. I felt like her character deserved some peace after all she sacrificed to look out for Mat and Olver.

I think that much like Martin, Jordan would have continued expanding sub plots and it may have taken significantly more books with significantly more filler to reach the end if Brandon hadnt stepped in. As many have noted Brandons prose isnt like Jordans, however if like me you dont need 50 pages detailing the designs on a dress then you wont mind Brandons style.

I am happy with how he wrote the last books. For people who loved the books, but thought Sanderson did poorly, i just ask, would you rather havs the story finished like it was, or not finished at all? I, for one, am happy the books got finished

No peoples biggest gripe is Mat first and i would say Rhuarc second. Androls story is cool, and i liked what he did but his story really should have gone to Logain, an already established character

Robert Jordan could have lived to 100 and would never have finished it. He kept knitting and purling and making increases, he never cast off any stitches.

Only thing I didn’t like about Sanderson with Wheel of Time was Padan Fain
@flushednemo
@flushednemo Жыл бұрын
I know this is a common criticism but I actually appreciated how anticlimactic his end was. Padan Fain had been built up for so long and it seemed like he was on the brink of godhood. The Pattern was unsure what Rand would do with the Dark One and if he would kill the Dark One. If the Dark One had been killed, the Pattern would have produced a replacement which I believe was supposed to be Padan Fain. Even his chosen name was Shai’sam which is very similar to the Dark One’s Shai’tan. Padan Fain was even coming to Shayol Ghul as the fabric between worlds was thin there and he had to come there to reach his next stage. We have seen the Pattern produce False Dragons until Rand was declared as the Dragon Reborn. The instant Rand was claimed as the Dragon Reborn, three other False Dragons were overthrown as the Pattern no longer needed them. In the same way, once the Pattern realised the Dark One was not to be killed, Padan Fain was no longer needed as a replacement and his tale ended in an anticlimatic way. It might be unsatisfying considering the buildup but I really appreciated it.

While Brandon Sanderson didn't do a perfect job finishing WoT, I don't think there was another better options given Robert Jordan's health.

He was actually considered first but was decided against because he has a completely different writing style, and that his fans would throw a fit if he was asked to finish a different series before he could finish his own

I had read that Sanderson had not even read the series before he took the job (and I believed it after reading his next Wheel of Time book), but since being corrected, I read Sanderson's Eulogy for Robert Jordan which says he was a fan. I never felt that Sanderson understood the characters, themes and prophecies, and it is my opinion that he butchered it. I was so disappointed that got rid of my books in a garage sale and grieved James Oliver Rigney, Jr, who had poured so much of himself into this wonderful series. P.S. I am still so thirsty for the Wheel of Time, that I have watched Amazon's butchered version. I wish it had turned out different and Robert Jordan had been able to "complete" his series, and been involved in Amazon's production. But that would have taken forever - and James Oliver Rigney, Jr's true fans will understand exactly what I am saying.

Dude cites Jordan as one of his biggest influences, but I'm sure you could have written the series way better
@harrisonfletcher1254

This is so weirdly untrue… he literally got the job from Harriet because he wrote such a heart felt eulogy for Jordan after he died on his blog, talking about what a great influence Jordan was on him. Brandon was a nobody and Harriet found him because of that eulogy. Brandon literally talked about how the characters in wot were his best friends in high school and growing up and how important wot was to him, and how much thru those characters RJ meant to him. Like yea. He didn’t do as good of a job as RJ Could have. But the rest of your take is just not true objectively.

@@harrisonfletcher1254 Thank you for your correction. I had read that "Sanderson had not even read the series", but updated information from Wikipedia and reading Brandon Sanderson's September 19, 2007 self published Eulogy for Robert Jordan corrects me. And I have now corrected it in my comment that you responded to. I probably have over reacted, my excuse being the terrible changes that Amazon has done, plus I have not been a fan of the quality of Sanderson's completion of the Wheel of Time. I am 72 years of age, and I have long been a fan of Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time. As I was waiting for the next volume, he died. Along with the sadness of Jordan's passing, there was such great disappointment and anxiety of how the series would be completed. And I, and others, were disappointed on how the rest of the series was completed. But I read it, enjoyed it, and rewrote sections of the books for myself and a friend. I then sold the books in a garage sale. When Amazon took it over, I was hopeful - but they made a real mess of it from the beginning. But I am enjoying them. Mostly, my enjoyment comes from memories of the friendships I had developed with the Characters. And sadness from the passing of James Oliver Rigney, Jr. Thank you again, Harrison Fletcher, for your correction towards as much objectivity as possible, as well as your understanding.

I actually think he ruined the WOT - took his time, needlessly expanded one book into 3 with lots of fillers, and fundamentally changed some main character's personalities. I sold all my books in a garage sale.
