The Med-Spin came from NYC skater Med Abrous not being able to do 540s. He would spin 180 on one foot and then do a fakie 360 to complete the 540 rotation. Ryan Jacklone and Dave Ortega would make fun of him by calling it a Med-Spin 540.

I've been meaning to learn all of these haha! Definitely nice skills to have, and I totally didn't realize to use the "bicycle" to transition into one wheel rolls. Makes sense! We have a skate comp coming up July and I need to make up some "filler" tricks, these all seem like a great thing to throw in between of grinds and stuff.

Those heel rolls are tough. I’m finally getting the hang of doing some quasi crossover‘s skating backwards Like you showed in your other video. I just ski on the main roads and I pick up a lot of garbage so it’s a lot of stuff and go and I do a lot of tricks on curbs and what not. I’ve been doing the fake Med spin kind of like the way you showed just not jumping. it’s definitely Found it under my bed, the last place I expected it to bereally fun to transition,

Your "med spin" is a body shuffle, (sometimes alternatively called a mindchange). Look up Jon Elliott's section in Brain Fear Gone to see it used as an entry to grinds. Super stylish if done right, and it's also a fun little thing to do when jumping into a quarter or bank.
@aldolega

Also, for an example of an actual medspin, see Haffey's last trick in his Killer Boots section- medspin 540 over a big stair gap.

Brandon, Brandon! I'm having a eureka moment right now. That Med-Spin's real name is a *Med-Wind* . Pronounced wind for a clock For years I copied down a Wikipedia page full of aggressive inline tricks. In it there was a med spin and a med wind. The latter was harder to grasp up until you demonstrated it. It is said the Med-Wind is used a lot before inliners lay down their sickest grind, similar to how a skateboarder pushes their board before running and jumping on to it.

Nice video! I think I need to get a smaller size skate to do the manuals. I get too much heel slippage.
@BrandonDrummond
@BrandonDrummond 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. Have skates that fit you make skating much easier and more natural. The first real pair of aggressive skates i had were 3 sizes too big for me and I'm sure it was the reason i struggled with royals and stuff.
@michaelnadle310
@michaelnadle310 5 жыл бұрын
Brandon Drummond you’re absolutely correct. I got the Roces Nils Jansons a full size smaller. They were tight for the first few hours but they are breaking in and I have zero heel lift. I feel like I have better control. Manuals are much easier but still need practice.

Where I'm from, that bicycle move is called a duck walk. A little practice, and it's pretty easy to do combos like duck to toe to heel (Not really tricks you film for parts, but it's always good for practicing your control. Watch Alex Broskow if you don't thing control is important). I think it's cool to inspire skaters to do more than grinds. I've always enjoyed skating that mixes it up. Cess slides, med spins, wall rides, toe rolls, Phillips 66, ect... I would almost call Brandon's Medspin a Medspin revert or something like that? Oh, and it took me a few minutes, but I just had to find the clip of Chris Haffey doing the best Med spin I've ever seen. It's the very last trick of the video. Enjoy. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r8-KaKWfsdjGhp8.html

!00% agree, Idk why people stick to just grinds you're missing out on such a fun part of skating. I like that name too! I was hoping someone would already have a name for it somewhere haha. Daym haffey is crazy! I never noticed it was a med spin before. Cheers for the comment man

What skates do you recommend that are just as good on the uneven streets as they are doing tricks in a skate park?
@BrandonDrummond
@BrandonDrummond 3 жыл бұрын
There's a trade off. The better they are for road the worse they are for grinds. Any 60m wheel flat set up will be good enough. Aeon 60s are a good choice. If you can afford to have 2 frames set up you could have any UFS skate set up and just swop frames depending on what you're doing i.e an 80m wheel set up for the road and 60 for the park. The Razor shift boot would be best for that. Its pretty hard to explain but there a bunch of options.
