I was born and raised in Chicago. Lived there for 36 years. I've been in Toronto for 15 years now and I will never go back to live unless I expand the (Canadian) family business. Toronto is a much safer place to live but too damn expensive. Price of housing does not meet the average income and that is a huge problem in the future.

I have heard too many horror stories about people going bankrupt over healthcare. Even if you aren’t bankrupted, having to pay monthly health premiums and still have to navigate co pay, deductibles etc is such a turn-off. Also US infrastructure is terrible. When I crossed the border from Canada into the US, the difference in road quality is immediate. I feel the US government doesn’t care for its people. They spend so much of its tax revenue on its military, it’s disgusting. I also don’t want to be part of a country that prides itself for standing for human rights and yet engages in wars and military conflict around the world. Lastly (tongue-in-cheek), I don’t want to learn the imperial system. The metric system is superior!

And I as an "immigrant" in Canada can't wait to find a way to move to US or Europe and the ONLY way we came to Canada AT ALL is not because we are interested or like it 1 bit but because it's so much easier to get PR - in fact in US and Europe pretty much it's impossible from outside and without a specific job offer. But once we're good enough for US or Europe we are out of this hellhole!

As a dual citizen of both countries, it's very hard to say one is better than the other, however as a black person in the US there is a more representation of black people excellence in the US vs Canada. You have better opportunity to go to HBCUs, and be nurture by people that look like you. Which I find is not available in Canada. Canada isn't blatantly racist as the US however Canada still has it own dirty little secrets. Each country has a special place to me in different ways. Since moving back to Canada , I have learned not to compare them but to see the like I would my siblings, I have love them equally but, individually we each have a different relationship.🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸

What? They're ranked 62nd for freedom in the world, Canada is ranked 7th. America is not as free as they let on. Felons can't vote, they accept corporate donations in their elections, fake news is legal, guns are certainly available to all, so there's some "freedom". They say they're a secular nation but appears more Christian and authoritarian. Heck, women can't get abortions in certain areas? Their democracy is flawed, they have this electoral college and gerrymandering which is basically cheating, is allowed. Also they don't even have uni-hc. They are not as free as they claim to be. Their "freedoms" are holding them hostage atm. They're only as free as depending on how much money they have, less social nets. freedomhouse.org/countries/freedom-world/scores?sort=desc&order=Total%20Score%20and%20Status

Canadian exceptionalism is strong here lol. As someone who has lived in both countries, both have their benefits and drawbacks. Lower CoL, more opportunities to be successful, lower taxes, willing to take more risks and innovation there is crazy. Citizens are also much more resilient and will protest if they don’t like something. In Canada we complain and do nothing about it (except Quebec, shout-out to them). We barely innovate in Canada, we buy everything from people and our economy is 4 sectors (RE, natural resources, tourism and fin tech). Also the protectionism in business that leads to monopolies ends up screwing citizens over (telecom being a big example). Canada has better social benefits but you’ll pay for it via taxes. Generally more safer, you don’t have to deal with 2nd amendment crazies. Harder to get ahead, so a lot of people use real estate as a financial lever to pull themselves up, hence the housing prices and every one believing that housing only goes up.

I bet a lot of those Canadians have never actually been to the United States and they base their opinions on what they see in the media. My wife is from Colombia. We met in Colombia and I brought her here on the fiancee visa. Before she came here, she had some ideas about Americans that either seemed really bizarre to me or were just flat out wrong. Now, after living here for seven years, she knows better. She still sees the problems, as I also do, but at least it's based on her own experience over a long period of time and not based on how the media spins things or some movie out of Hollywood. Incidentally, I'm planning to move to Colombia when I retire, for many reasons, including the lower cost of living and cheaper healthcare, which are important in retirement. My wife is not so wild about the idea, because she says she has become spoiled by life here in the US.

Representation matters!!! And in America 🇺🇸 black representation is far more than in Canada 🇨🇦. Yes there are some drawbacks living in the US. (I have Dual citizenship). However Canada needs to improve WAY more when it comes to blacks more being prominent. In the gta the representation for south asians is great. In fact I’ve seen first hand blacks denied housing, and jobs just because they are black and south asians are the ones denying black people. (Especially in Brampton). Health care is free, but again I’ve seen first hand where if you do not advocate for yourself you’ll unfortunately die or become very ill as a black person. You have to literally complain and complain to be taken seriously. Maybe the people who commented below have not had to experience any of this. But I have along with family members and friends.

The young children in impoverished area can't dream pass the hood because we are their heros. I mean with all the ups and downs of being Black in America you still can see yourself becoming something one day, more so than here. Just look at Instagram and see how many Black doctors, lawyers, and engineers ect you see graduating from universities. Both from PWIs or HBCUS. We need the same energy for our people over here. I'm American, but I would rather be a Canadian if it wasn't so far north. I know there are temperate parts of Canada, but the days are still shorter. Culturally, politically, and economically I envy Canada. I lived in Bulgaria (South Eastern Europe) in the 1990s, and to me Canada seems in many ways more "European" than the United States. On a side note, people from all of North and South America (the continents) are "American". Sort of lame that the United States calls itself "America" while everyone permanently living in anywhere from Canada in the North to Chili in the South is an "American", we all live in the Americas.

It makes sense that Canadians would distinguish themselves from the US by things like socialized healthcare and avoiding war. What I never get is when Canadians say "Canada is very multicultural" as if that is something that distinguishes them from the US. Do Canadians not know that Americans are made up people from cultures all across the globe? A nation of immigrants is exactly how many Americans would describe their nation as that's exactly what they are unless they are indigenous. The US is quite literally the first nation that comes to mind when I think multicultural nation. Canada is too but the US comes to mind first because of the larger population and thus higher number of people coming from different cultures.

"America is the land of opportunity" Lol more like the American dream has moved North. You have an easier path to the Canadian middle class and above if you work hard here and don't break the law. Canada has better healthcare, better public schools and more affordable post-secondary education. We obviously pay a higher price for these things though through higher taxes. US has lower prices on alcohol, gas, goods and clothing compared to Canada even before taxes. Americans have lower state sales taxes than Provinces and don't have a Federal sales tax like the 5% GST on virtually everything. I still and always will love Canada.

People assume Canada's a small country, and that we know everyone else. Okay, I may know one of the guys in the video, name's Lane, but that doesn't mean we all know each other. Sheesh!

You couldn't pay me enough money to live and visit the USA. You have high crime rate. High gun violence, high gang violence, school shootings the only country who has it and the Federal US Government doesn't give a damn., not safe, dollar to expensive, Healthcare expensive, to many guns. No employment laws, no gun control, no democracy there because the Political parties control the elections thru don't allow everyone to vote who is 18 and up. They choose who votes. Here in Canada everyone who is 18 years by October 5th 2025 and up gets to vote in the Federal Canadian Election. We vote for our MPs in our constituency. The Party who wins the most seats in the House of Commons there Leader of the Party becomes Prime Minister.

Canada is a better country to raise children (safer, free healthcare, cheaper education, less social segregation), but USA is wayyy better of a country to build your own wealth (more business opportunities, lower taxes, warmer weather, more cheap living areas). So basically from age 0-25, Canada is better and from age 25-50, USA is better.

We don't know whether or not to count Puerto Rico. I thought it was 51. Truth is we don't care. Most of us don't even know how many Provinces & Territories we have here in Canada, many would say 9 but I think it's 11. It also depends what age group you ask. I do know; count the stars and you have your answer & I think it's 11 stripes to represent the original colonies or something like that. One look at your homelessness situation and Canada is my choice by far. The only thing we used to think about the USA pretty much is that your Beer sucks in comparison & that Florida is a great place to go in the winter. We are taxed to the hilt and yes we have access to healthcare but good luck getting a family doctor or purchasing a house. 350,000,000 million people vs 30,000,000 million people. Canadian's say EH!!! & American's say HUH!!! CFL Football is a better game than NFL Football but we'll take your cheerleaders. We have 9 teams and you have something like 28 and your football season gives us something to watch in the winter other than hockey. We really think of you as our dumb brothers and sisters to the south but our young folk are catching up in that department. We also don't care for your racism which is seeping into this country as well. We could also do without all your violence. The average Canadian over 40 knows much more about the USA than you know about us. Lastly, we wonder what the hell your doing in Alaska other than protecting us from Russia. LMAO And we hate PM Turdo Must Go!!! And most of us like Trump and think Biden is a old dementia patient. But then again if you ask our woke Libtards they will say they hate Trump. The truth is I don't know any American's & have only run into one or two in my lifetime. Everything I do know is based off MSM news and it's not good.

That “free healthcare” argument is so tired the US does have free healthcare but it is just not universal like other countries, that there are many reasons why Canada is a better country than the US ,but the US “not having free healthcare isn’t one of those reasons”

lol Canada has lowest Covid death rate in G7 behind Japan. Japan spent money and bungled hosting the Olympics they likely will have more Covid deaths than Canada by the end of the year and spent more government money per capita during the pandemic. Canada under Trudeau followed the science and let provinces do lockdowns when they had too much Covid most Canadians are happy with our approach yes businesses closed and jobs were lost everywhere not just in our country. However, if you are alive you will always have opportunity to rebuild yourself and your life post-Covid.
