What a treat! Brant also worked on the instrument at Girard College in Philadelphia. It was thru my dear departed friend, Carlo Curley, that I got to know that organ. Fortunately I got to know a security guard there, and with Bruce Shultz’s permission, I was able to have total control and have spent many hours in the chapel. It is so wonderful to see Carol interview Brant. Thank you Carol!

WOW! BRANT DUDDY!!! All my life I have heard so much about him, but I never got to meet him. He took care of almost every good organ in Philadelphia. Now I finally see him live. I'm totally amazed! ~Cindy! :D

To answer the question about the extended manuals: Most of the Pedal ranks are extended upward to an 85-note compass. The extended Pedal Left ranks comprise the Grand Choir division, and the extended Pedal Right ranks comprise the Grand Great division. The Great and Choir manuals are extended to play the full compass of these ranks without needing couplers. You'll notice that the Grand Great and Grand Choir stop tabs are all an octave higher than the rank's pitch, for example the Dulzian tab is 32' and the Ophicleide tab is 8'. The second-lowest C, at the same spot as the lowest C on a non-extended manual, will play, for example, the 32' C on the Dulzian or the 8' C on the Ophicleide. The extended octave to its left will go down to the lowest note, such as the 64' C of the Dulzian and the 16' C of the Ophicleide. As for the Swell manual, it's just to make it look better, to ease the visual transition between the extended manuals and the others.

Bottom two manuals were apparently extended to 85 notes so that, in theory, you can play piano repertoire on the organ, given that it had a piano attachment. The 3rd manual is extended mainly for cosmetic reasons.

They're actually not for the piano, they're extended to play the full range of the pedal ranks that are extended upward to 85 notes. The organ has lots of extended ranks, this is why it has more pipes than the Wanamaker despite having fewer ranks. The full range (aside from the bottom three notes) of the piano is playable in the usual organ manner, by having three stop tabs at 16', 8', and 4'. They're in both the String III and Gallery III divisions. Theoretically, if you were to pull an 8' piano stop and couple it to the Great or Choir manual, you could play the full range (again, minus the bottom three notes) of the piano on it. It'll be a while until the piano is restored and connected to the new relay, but I'm sure it'll have this capability.

Yes but actually upper note on swell keyboard are connected to pipe. And the lowest keys (G A B) are active when coupling swell with great or choir, but not any pipe connected directly on swell
