Your hair is way too long for foil shavers. I’m a barber 💈 and foil shavers are used when your hair is 1 to 2 days growth from bald 👨🏻‍🦲. Use your Wahl Balding clipper first, then use the Braun for best results. The fact that it cut your hair at this length shows how good the Braun is. Great video though!! This product is amazing for people with sensitive skin and shave their head everyday or every other day. I’d love to see you test out the brand new Babyliss FX3 Ferrari foil shaver.

I'm quite impressed that it cuts/shaves even that long hair. Normally electric shavers were made for the daily face shave. So it usually just shaves/cuts, or is designed to just catch the stubbles. This one basically works like a hair clipper. Good work by Braun!

Buy it. This channel made me comfortable with shaving my head but that isn’t why you should buy this product. I started with the Wahl Balding clippers. Great product, however if you are shaving when you are first waking up, or in a hurry you will get badly knicked by the clippers. In addition the clippers are heavy. I love the long chord but it often gets in the way when you’re trying to maneuver them around your ears. I moved onto the pitbull gold pro. Those were okay. You have to keep them at max charge for the best shave because the power fades fast. They also didn’t get as close as the balding clippers. I also felt like I had to replace the blades more often than the manufacturer suggested because they felt like they dulled quickly. Next I tried the old Gillette fusion pro glide I used in HS to shave my face. It worked and felt great. The shave was really close, easily the closest I’ve had and therefore the best. However, “bad” cartridges were common. I got cut up no matter how slow I went because the blades weren’t sharpened properly at the factory. The razor offers a close shave but again if you don’t go super slow even with good cartridges you’ll get cut up. I was also more prone to irritation and razor burn with the Gillette than the other products mentioned, even after trying other shave gels and after shave lotions. The series 9 is expensive, especially during this recession. But it provides a massive quality of life improvement. No mess, no hair everywhere. It provides a shave almost as close as the Gillette for me. While not as close as the Gillette, the shave it provides leaves my scalp feeling super smooth. I love how easy it is to use and I can go over my head with it quickly without getting cuts, razor burn or other irritation. I don’t have to use shaving cream and clean up is minimal. Blow the pieces clean toss in the base station press a button and it’s ready for tomorrow. Well worth the price if you can manage. Again I owe this channel gratitude for the confidence it gave me years ago to do the first shave, and now for this great product.

Thanks for the review! I've tried pretty much every device (electric or manual blades) available that you could shave your head with and Braun shavers have always produced the best results. So I just got one of these a few days ago and so far this thing is amazing. Like you said, on the top of my head it feels like it's as close as a stick razor. On the sides though, it feels a little rough but there is no stubble visible. It cost me about $300 US, but I think it's totally worth it. The razor is pretty loud but there are a bunch of blades working in that little thing. And the cleaning/charging station is so handy, but it's loud in its own way. It turns on the razor to clean it, except the sound is a little muffled because it has the liquid flowing through it. I would totally buy it again. If you can come up off the money, it's really worth it. No other electric razor gets as close or is as convenient with the little cleaning/charging station as the Series 9 is.

@@uknowjoe1 No cuts. It honestly is a good options in my opinion. I do have a good sized mole on the back of my head I have to be careful around.. not sure if it would actually cut it or not but I am careful around it. Using a razor like the Braun will kind of strip the moisture from your head a bit similar to a blade razor but nothing a bit of balm or something cant fix. There also might be an updated version of this Braun now as I've had mine for maybe 5 years now.

I use my old Braun Pulsonic series 7 and it’s a champ. Doesn’t beat my Leaf, but it’s great. I need to upgrade to the series 9 at some point but my series 7 is awesome. Braun says to replace the blades every 18 months and honestly mine have lasted a lot longer than that. And I shave my head daily. Also, quick tip, put the plastic cover back on the cleaning cartridge and it’ll prevent the fluid from evaporating between cleanings.

There are a lot of remarks about cleaning the razor. I've used the S5 for decades. I start under my nose and then use a sprayer bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol to lubricate the blades. Do not breath the isopropyl as this is dangerous. Any liquid will help lube the blades and give a closer shave. The alcohol kills bacteria and dissolves oils so this makes rinse cleaning the shave head a snap under the water faucet when you're done. The blades last much longer and work better. Use a moisturizer after shaving with a sunscreen if you're smart. I do not ever push the head into my skin as this is what results in the foil failing. When that happens you need a new one right then and there. It also hurts when the super thin metal catches and cuts into your face. After shaving I simply rinse the blades under the faucet and let them air dry. Failing to keep the razor germ free will eventually result in skin problems as will as the performance dropping noticeably. As the blades get worn they still will get the job done but they take a lot more passes to do it. When the shaving takes too long get a new blade and foil. Save the old foil just because it is still good and you may well need it one day. I usually shave with the cord in. I have never needed to replace the batteries and they last a few weeks on vacation trips without a problem. If I used it cordless all the time the cycles would have done them in years ago. Great razor and lasts forever once you figure out how to use it to not stress the foil into failure and keep it clean. I am curious now about the top end model, so why not get one? PS: I tried Norelco many years ago and it didn't work for me. Remington was a non starter back then too. Gillette blades are designed to dull fast so they get a thumbs down, but you need blades too for some spots and have them in the drawer. Women's blades (venus) cut you less and are just as sharp. They will not get in close to your nose though because the blades do not go far enough to the side ends of the cartridge. Good luck shaving. If I could get the damn thing lasered off for good I sure would. Otherwise this is the best alternative going.

I love my series 9. I’ve had it for nearly 5 months using it to shave my head every other day. The indicator for the head is still on 5/5 so it’ll last a lot longer than 8 months. Longer than the 18 months Braun recommend I reckon. Tip: clean the excess out of the head before using the cleaning station and take the cartridge out of the station and put the plastic lid back on after. I got 3 months out of my first one. £5 each over 3 months isn’t bad... and £40 over 18 months for the head. Cheaper than wet shaving.

@@thedon2005 when you’ve used the series 9 and switch it off it has a 5 unit bar (same as the battery) that shows the life of the head. Starts with a full 5 and gradually reduces as the life of the head degrades. Then when it’s fully gone you change the head as said in the video. £40 over 18 months is £2.20 odd per month. Then a cleaning cartridge works out at about £1.60 per month. So I’m reality it costs less that £4 per month to fully maintain and clean. Your shaver is literally as new after the cleaning cycle.

Update after 3 shaves - tried wet as well as dry, up and down, left and right, very slow to slow but if it can’t trim facial hair in an area, it just can’t. For me, it fails on side of my neck. Also, I expect a $200 shaver to save me time every morning and not to increase my shave time. It fails there. ----------------- Bought it today and here is my 2 cents. It is either a hit or a miss. Shaves equal or better than a typical razor where it can shave. I got the best mustache shave ever with this. Failed miserably on my neck despite multiple tries, both dry as well as wet. Point is, I bought this to save me time and skin irritation. It reduced the later but I had to spend double the time to shave. It is going back to store tomorrow. Sorry Braun.

It feels surprisingly good despite that fact. I bought this to replace my cartridge razor. It did a good job around my cheeks and parts of my neck. It definitely had a hard time getting those tricky spots which I had to clean up with a razor. I’m happy with it after the first use which was wet. I think next time I’m going to shaving with my face dry to see if it will get those tricky spots better.

It never occurred to me to use my Braun 9 on top of my head too. I went ahead and tried this out and had similar results. I got a closer shave with less irritation that I do with my pitbull skullshaver. This shaver did a much better job at the back than my skullshaver, I suspect because the blades fit better in the creases at the back of my head. This shaver struggles with longer hair but for some reason it also struggles with neck hairs, I think because neck hair doesn't stand up like the rest of the beard.

It’s the closest I’ve found to a wet shave in an electric shaver format without leaving streaks like a skull shaver pitbull does. After trying almost every shaver out there I have finally settled between wet shaving and my series 9. I love your reviews and all of your content. You do such a fantastic job and I have saved a lot of money by watching your videos. Thank you brother

@@daccacheabdo I've tried the Series 5,7,9, Arc 5, Babyliss Gold Pro, and various others. The Series 9 is slightly better than the Series 7. However, the new Series 7 has a 360 degree rotating head so I would like to try that. I cannot justify the purchase right now since I've spent thousands over the years on shavers and the Series 9 is already very good. I would recommend using pre-electric oil on your head or beard before you use an electric shaver on it. That reduces the irritation by a lot and makes it a much smoother shave with fewer bumps or cuts, etc. And shave before you step into the shower so you can wash off the pre-electric oil after you are done shaving.

With an eletric shaver you need to give at least two weeks of usage in order for it to feel good at the face. Once your skin adapts, you never feel the need of razor again...i use a razor once in a while just to remember the feeling of the cream and the way the cut feels but eletric is now the right way to go :P I dont need to shave my head but I do it once in a while to change style and motivate my Dad who has lost his hair to keep his shaved and your channel is a great source of information and inspiration! A 7 head Chinese cheapo rotary is much better and quicker for pre-shaving. In fact, if you're not fussy, it'll do as your only shaver. Next step up is to follow a 7 head shaver with a 3 head rotory Norelco. Nothing beats the Braun for closeness and for getting under the nose and under the lip. Yes, I use three different shavers. Total time: Less than 5 minutes. As good as a blade shaving against the grain? Of course, not, just like the man says. But will the Braun get things CLOSE ENOUGH? Absolutely!…..unless you're the groom at a wedding. In that case, you'll wanna use the blade. I hardly ever use a blade any more and I've been shaving for more than 50 years. Btw, my Braun is an 8 yr old Series 7, but all the Brauns give a similar shave, and they're much better than Panasonic. The only issue with the Brauns is the cost of shaver head replacement, which is a total ripoff. Oh, and if you wanna keep rotary blades sharp, here's a tip: A dab of toothpaste pushed onto each head. Squish it in there. Turn on the shaver for 30 seconds. Done. Wash out the toothpaste. Sharp as new.

All you need are the cleaning cartridges and also change the foil every 6 months. In exchange, you have a clean-shaven head every single day. This is the closest you get to a freshly shaven head every single day. Let’s be honest, no one has time to use shaving cream and a manual razor every other day. Wanna know how to properly clean an electric shaver after every use? Get a cup (or a bowl) of warm water and dish liquid mixed together. Then switch on the shaver and submerge the head into the solution and hold it there for 1 minute (you can also swish it around in there too). After that remove the shaver from the solution and rinse it thoroughly under a warm tap. Boom! Your shaver is completely clean and fresh always! Just remember to lubricate the blades later once the shaving head's completely dry (since soap will strip off the blades any form of lubrication).

Pour out a little alcohol from the bottle and pour the cleaning solution into the bottle. Shake well and refill the solution container. Insert as normally and rinse when needed and refill from your bottle and keep doing that every time it needs until your bottle is empty. You’ll save a lot of money.

Another great vid man, appreciate it. So after this video I began seeking out other reviews on the Braun series 9 which led to comparisons to the BaByliss FX02 foil shaver (Titanium Pro in the UK). Its more targeted towards professional barbers than domestic use but seemed to come out on top in the few comparisons I have seen on KZfaq. Granted these reviews were mostly from pro barbers and the Braun is a domestic product. A lot of people appear to consider it the best foil shaver on the market right now. I have been using it for about 2 weeks and so far I'm pretty impressed. The BaByliss is also significantly cheaper, I managed to get mine under £60 with shipping in the UK. Would love to see you review it and see what you think and how it compares to the Braun, I'm also curious about how these foil shavers compare with the Remington RX5.

The Braun series 9 is a jack of all trades, it can be used on the face as well as the head with amazing results. The same can’t be said for the Babyliss Titanium Pro. I got one of these without the charging station. You can clean it with hand soap in the sink also. I don't use it now. But I agree this machine is awesome. But somewhat expensive to maintain. I have thick hair, and I needed to shave every day, so my head got very sensitive. I shave my head with a safty-razor now. 👍 But I should probably switch to a BALD Leaf Shave Razor?

I've probably used every option to keep my head and total face shaved. The Series 9 is the best razor and the Gillette Fusion 5 is the best disposable. Trust me, I've tried all kinds of seemingly "high tech" razors and most left me with irritation or outright blood-letting. Pro-tip about the Series 9? Using it wet with cream or lotion will leave you noticeably irritated at the end. Happens every time. Stick with the dry shave. It's even helpful to have some natural oils on your head and face. I do a full shave in the dry shower with a little shave mirror, and then touch up any rough spots with the warm shower water running. Rinse the shaver head in the shower, shake it off, and then do the Charge and Clean after your shower. Good times!

Just use pre-electric shave lotion...You’ll get a very close shave. Take a shower afterwards. Even if there is some hair left (for example on your neck), no one will notice except maybe yourself. The pre electric shave lotion should get you a BBS shave.

I am going to assume you have used the Defender Razor? What are your thoughts on that? I really like it.

@paulcarlin5181 As a matter of fact, I did use the Defender when it first came out advertised on Facebook. Let me just say that "blood-letting" was all about the Defender. It was the worst. Now, I will say that the worst of the nicks and cuts were mostly to the head. I think the face was fine. They've been in business for a long time, so, maybe I was just unlucky.

@@blancasd Wow, sorry to hear. They have been great for me. That is what is so hard about making brand decisions. What works for one might not for another. What did you not like about the Arc 5?
