Hollywood aside. A lightweight diesel streamliner with a few cars made of sheet metal against a heavy freight isnt a fair comparison if we're talking speed. Regardless of what engine is on the freight train. Nice to know where Disney got the whistle sfx tho! Always wondered whether it was an "original" sound from Disney itself

this movie was about the development of the silver streak, in this scene the silver streak is performing like shit so the joke is they get passed by a freighter

Hey from the 1930s Silver Streak Movie. Definetly a classic film and as I recall in this scene the Silver Streak is on trial and isn't operating to it's full potential. Later on they fix it and are the heroes in the movie but this was definitely a fun scene to watch.
@jacobmoss6830 Жыл бұрын
I mean it's not too surprising, the diesel streamliner was at that point something new. The whole concept was still in realm of fixed unit DMU trains, with more advanced 'traditional' streamliners still a ways off. I get it's staged for the film and the the streak is nowhere near flat out but if in the film she's on trial and working out kinks it's not surprising that for her to get overtaken by something it'd be what to my eyes seems to be a vacuum fitted reefer freight.

If steam is pressurized so high it can best thousands of locomotives at once but pressurizing has a limit
@gimbrol4 ай бұрын
nah, it'd implode in great mass, besides, the fastest it'd go would be 126 mph (maybe a bit higher) as the outdated axles on the old steamers couldn't stand such high speeds (not to mention the fact that the fireman would need to shovel at supersonic speeds to keep this claim)

I'm talking about storing steam in like a bedrock cage so it won't explode. If a steam engine made of such strong material exists it can best lots of locomotives at once
