In this video, we'll present how Rwanda President answered a question on when he intends to leave office as the president of his country, after being in office for several years. This occurred during an interview with Mo Ibrahim on public service and leadership in Africa. Paul Kagame is a Rwandan politician and former military leader. He is the 6th and current president of Rwanda, having taken office in 2000. Rwanda's economy has grown rapidly under Kagame's presidency, with GDP per capita estimated at $801 in 2019, compared with $218 in 2000, when he became the president.

I have immense respect for President Kagame, he’s one of my favorite leaders. He not only wants a stronger Rwanda, but a stronger Africa. I don’t agree with some of his decisions, but no one is perfect. With the transition of my favorite President, John Magufuli, he is now Africa’s strongest leader, in my opinion. If we look at where his administration has taken their genocide-surviving, small, landlocked, minerally poor country from and the current trajectory up to this point, it’s absolutely remarkable. Very few countries have had to endure what Rwanda has. I think given the nation’s circumstances, the length of his term is justified, especially considering the fact that I do genuinely believe the people of Rwanda requested that he stay in office: He’s brought unity, stability, dignity, and empowerment back to his nation and people and they revere him for it. For a people who have survived such trauma, that feeling of stability is extremely paramount, that’s human nature. I have watched many of his lectures and summits and though there have been very few of us who have, I believe the only reason Africans speak against the length of his term is because EUROPEANS (White Americans fall under this umbrella) are always the first ones to bring it up. I find it interesting that it was a South African sister posing the question because if you look at South Africa politically, it’s the complete opposite of Rwanda. SA has been a mess for a while; economically and socially it’s very similar to what’s happening here in Amerikkka. Presidents are elected democratically and have set terms, yet a few have had to step down due to scandals, they are afraid to touch the blatant racial divide issues in the country while they’re in office, so European People and other foreigners still rule economically, and, correct me if I’m wrong, but besides ending the Political Apartheid, they have never given native South Africans an economic foundation from which to reset and prosper from, so Black People are still largely living in poverty. And I’ve watched all out brawls go down in their parliament sessions, it’s like watching reality tv, it’s extremely embarrassing and perpetuates the negative stereotypes gravitating around our people. It’s an African government ruled by the corporate interests of the minority white and Indian/Asian population, the economic apartheid is still alive and well. I feel like that would never happen in Rwandan politics due to the structure of the government Kagame has established. All this to say, I believe that given Africa’s history, it shouldn’t be beholden to Western Standards of governance, we as Africans need to dispel the illusion that Europeans are morally upstanding and their systems are right for Africa, because we know well that both are very much untrue. The Western and Eastern ways have failed us, we need to now establish the African Way. Until then, if the people are prospering under a leader and they vote to extend their term, that is their choice, I for one am not opposed to that. The opinions of those looking in from the outside mean nothing, it’s all about doing right by his people, he understands this.

You can not pretend to know that the Shona would ask for slavery and war reparations from the second biggest tribe in Zimbabwe and that tribe would in turn ask for war reparations from the Shona. You can not pretend to know that the sanctions for supposed, human rights abuses are being championed by a nation illegally militarily occupying Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. You can not have amnesia about Marikana shootings and the killing of foreigners in your own country whilst espousing the adage " Umuntu ngumuntu ngavantu ".I no longer have to salute 'pikinini baas' whilst he is calling an elderly man 'boy'. If that's all Mugabe did, " free me from mental slavery" and allow me access to our God given natural resources, then I salute him for that. I will not blame a brother or sister from a neighbouring country for an opportunity to live with decency and with dignity because God has allowed him/ her to be in the country. If he/ she breaks the country's laws then the police or immigration will deal with it .

I sincerely Pray that God grants him the wisdom to put things in place for continuity beyond him Because this happens to be one of our biggest problems as humans, we don't know when to leave, aside that, the fate of how many millions of people should not be solely tied to him, it is more than risky I believe that at this stage, a system should have been built to preserve his legacies as well build on it.

'Everyone has their own shoes" - President Kagame. His quotes are so simple yet so deep, and his explanation on why based on where the country and Africa is is the wisdom every country needs. I only hope when I repatriate back home, that I can have the honor of meeting him. I am stuck for now, in a place my people did not choose to be and it pains most the time the things we, especially I, have to endure with this "leadership". But I will get back home.
