Reasons why Coyote Peterson is one of the best KZfaqrs out there: 1. Not clickbait at all 2. Very informational and interesting videos 3. Never swears no matter how bad he gets hurt, he didn't even swear when stung by the bullet ant. 4. You can tell he has great passion and loves what he's doing 5. Risks many things for our entertainment Godspeed, Coyote.

I own a tegu, as long as you can afford to feed them and have enough space for them, they are AMAZING pets. they actually like human affection (captive bred) mine is a male and he loves having his cheeks scratched. he's a little over 5 feet

I had 2 of them, great pets, feeding them isn't too expensive. They will eat just about anything. I fed mine mostly scrambled eggs with other supplements mixed in. Fortunately I have a local vet who is really good with these critters and he helped us keep them in great health even into old age. Biggest challenge is space. They need a lot of it. We actually converted a room in the house to a tegu house...

I just got my first Argentine Black and White tegu (Carlos) and he's awesome. He's already super chill and after the first week of having him, was totally comfortable with being handled. Just a got 125g tank for him but will be building an 8x4x4 enclosure in about a year probably depending on how fast he grows. Out of all the reptiles I own, I would have to say he's already become my favorite.

@janeilnold5863
@janeilnold5863 5 жыл бұрын
Tegus actually make great pets so long as people take the time to research how to care for one. They need a TON of space (like an entire room in your house) and will eat just about anything. You can also target and clicker train them. My friend has one and she trained him to recognize a red disk as a sign of food. When she holds it up and shows it to him, he knows it's feeding time. He's also super cuddly and good with people. The only reason I don't have one (yet) is because I don't have the space for one. Once I get the room, I'm planning on getting one. It's also important to get them when they are young. They do bond with their owners. An adult one is less likely to bond with you and may not show as much affection as a raised one would.

They don't even need to be raised from babies- my tegu's a former Florida feral (actually from the Homestead ag land breeding population, the one featured in this video) who lived wild for about a year before I adopted her. She's a total sweetheart- eats out of my hand, likes to be held, is super chill and seems to appreciate snuggling, and follows me around the house. She's never tried to bite me or any other human. They're cool lizards, even though they are invasive as heck.

its cool though 1. That would cost thousands of dollars. Who would pay for it? 2. They're unfamiliar with the area and would likely struggle, if not die. 3. The countries that have these animals typically already have an abundance, and don't really want nor need any more. 4. Killing is quicker, more practical, and safer than bagging and possibly injuring yourself from a dangerous animal.

Tegus actually make great pets if you're willing to take good care of them. They're more active than your regular lizards and incredibly smart. Like scaly dogs. They do require a good, abundant and balanced diet to grow properly, but they will eat just about anything. I wouldn't have them in a small apartment and they cannot be caged like other lizards. They're goofballs, though, very affectionate.

I live in FL, and I’ve heard about these guys. We also have an incredible amount of pythons and even boas down south. Most of our exotic wildlife is south of Martin county on the east coast. So Palm Beach county, Broward and Dade. The Everglades are definitely a site to see in your lifetime, all kinds of wild life down there like panthers, wild boar, alligators, crocs (rare), Ocelots (very rare), coral snakes, pythons, boas, rattlesnakes, water moccasins, all types of lizards and iguanas and of course great fishing on and off the coast (and in the glades) if you’re into that.

I love how information Coyotes videos are, as a reptile enthusiast and owner I love this video. It makes me so upset, because I want an Argentinian tegu so bad and people who are releasing these animals cause the surrounding community to hate them, which this tegu or other invasive species don't deserve, they didn't want to be brought into an unfamiliar environment, but irresponsible people who don't research pets cause them to be hated and destroy the community.

Actually, the Argentine Tegu (Falsely called the black and white Tegu here) is a great pet. They aren’t too high maintenance, they just need a bit more area to live than a small box. They are more docile as adults, and can be seen similar to a bearded dragon.
@varanidguy

Tegus can make amazing pets with the right care and handling. I had a tegu as a teenager that I couldn't get to be aggressive. It just would refuse to bite or show aggression, but it would eat like there was no tomorrow. But they do take more care than most people can handle. An 8 foot wide cage, lots of heat, deep substrate for burrowing, and lots of food. They are also some of the most powerful lizards on the planet (pound for pound) and demand a great deal of respect. Still, if you can properly care for one, there's almost nothing else like a pet tegu.

its not that tegus are bad pets because that isnt the case. from what i read, they make wonderful household companions. the issue with owning these reptiles is the humans. the new pet owner buys the tegu and doesnt do their reading so when it ends up getting too big, they release it into the wild. funny thing is, they could just as easily give the reptile to a zoo or research group where the tegu could be properly cared for, taken off their hands, and one less invasive species in the wild.

Well, Florida is pretty liberal in regards to personal responsibility. Unfortunantly, such public trust means the wildlife suffers. The good news is there are *plenty* of responsible herp keepers and fish keepers who would rather see you donate your bad decision to them rather than see them released to the wild.

Sometimes people dont realize how much work animals are or think they stay tiny and when they realize it isn't what they thought they Release it. This is why people should do they're research before getting any type of animal

It would suck to punish responsible owners but I 100% agree. I live in Florida, we have relatively lenient rules for owning exotic pets and our ecosystems are suffering. Lazy irresponsible people keep releasing these pets and now our Everglades are at risk. Shouldn’t even be allowed anymore at this point.

@Lewis 970 I own my snakes because I love them. Reptiles that are captive bred do not have what it takes to survive in the wild more of the time, and we learn more about them through responsibly owning them. I agree many people who buy them do not do the proper research, though, and shouldn't be allowed to own a reptile until they do research thoroughly.

I had a B&W Argentine Tegu. One of the best lizards I've owned. Got him when he was 14" and had him for 7 years and was about 4' long. He was basically a big puppy and needed attention all the time, followed me almost everywhere around the house and on walks outside and even slept on the end of my bed with me. Very awesome reptiles and are great as pets if raised right. I dont guarantee buying one more than 6 months old if you do plan to buy one. Purchasing a hatchling or small juvenile and taking good care of him will give you one of the best pets ever. I've had all sorts of Iguanas, Lizards and Monitors and the Black and White Argentine Tegu has to be my No. 2 favorite pet reptile, with the Savannah Monitor being No. 1.

Tegus are good pets. I have three. They sleep in my bed and they are easily house-trained. Trapping tegus and sending them to other parts of the country is a good way to make money. Paying to trap tegus and killing them is expensive, especially when you could easily make back the cost of trapping them by selling them. I bought one for $160 plus shipping costs from florida. She grew to over 3 feet and I house trained her. She is a wonderful, docile pet, who knows her name and enjoys eating scrambled eggs.
