In this segment of On Location, Coyote, Mark and Mario head out on an epic adventure to explore an abandoned fortress!
Engulfed in plants on a small island in the Portland Harbor lies the lost battle station known as Fort Gorges. Built in 1858 this fort has never seen military conflict but has been used in recent centuries to store everything from canon’s to submarines.
Today, if you are brave enough, you can rent a kayak and paddle out to the forts “minecraft like” castle walls and explore its historic grounds.
So on their last day in Maine the Brave Wilderness crew decided to do exactly that…because who wouldn’t want to explore a HUGE fortress left abandoned for over a century?!

I so agree. I try to be the same with my channel also, though not quite as dramatic as this video - lol. I look up to this team, now that I have discovered them! My stuff is mostly nature and zoology and also historical mixed with survival and bushcraft. I hope i get to meet up with these guys some day and colab!!!

I'm pretty sure the "second wall" for the cannons is actually a piece designed to allow the cannon to rotate. That's why the port is more open towards where the cannon would be.

TJ Korndoerfer yep correct.. it was steel flooring for the end wheel to move the cannon left and right. I'm so glad I wasn't alone in this. 👍😋

TJ Korndoerfer that makes even more sense than my idea as a track for powder and shot to be carted on. It was a track but for the guns. I have seen civil war howitzer forts with gun pivot tracks.

4:40 that's not a secondary wall that was track so that the cannons could rotate and have a larger field of fire. If you notice at every cannon port there is an arc like this.

You are correct...they are the traverse tracks so the canon can be aimed side to side.

Subbed to this channel last week after watching the Giant Salamander video after i saw it on the trending page. I've since gone through and binged every video from the start up to here. Your content is amazing and is truly the best produced show on KZfaq. Coyote and the team are incredible and are inspiring many people, much like Steve Irwin did when i was a kid. This is the perfect example of a transitional KZfaq video. Been binge watching Cayote with animals, see him exploring an abandoned fort, gets intrigued, starts searching for spooky abandoned fort videos, in about an hour I'll most likely end up at how to make a Ouija board.
