been an avid fan and follower of the Kyoto Tachibana band ever since seeing this video. and lately had a deeper appreciation of their song selection of their performance here. specially the part when they played the star wars opening theme and followed by the Cantina band song in the star wars movie mixed with a short sing sing sing version. love KT
What an excellent band. Their performance in the Rose Parade was great. Excellent sound, choreography, dancing and ENERGY and HAPPINESS. The really enjoy pleasing the crowd.
They performed at Disneyland, Pasadena Bandfest, Rose Parade, and shows at luckily selected high school concert. Wow, coming all the way from Japan and sacrificing their holiday leisure time, I truly want to take off my hats and salute to these young, talented high school students with such superb shows. I really hope they had valuable experience and memory for trade off!
@THINKNOTHING4 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure it was for those high school students as USA is one of Japanese favorite destination to visit especially California, Hawaii and NY. Besides, they get to visit Disneyland(Original) and home stay experience with great American families. I am pretty sure they had an experience of their life time and will never forget it.

5 days of Disneyland pass? That's a holiday leisure time
@Kuma404 жыл бұрын
@@pan9497 But you need to realize that they actually practice within those 5 days to keep it up. I used to be in marching band in Japan for 5 years 20 years ago, and there's no single day of actual rest. Japanese marching band practice is no joke. At least 6-8 hours of playing instrument and marching simultaneously were just the basic. But for Tachibana, they are committed more than that by gathering into their sub groups to keep up daily tune and body choreography to maintain stamina and body physics.
@pan94974 жыл бұрын
@@Kuma40 Kuma40 tbh im sure they didn't mind the last few days' practicing because of the excitement to perform and just being in US. Exhausted? Definitely. But the pride and memories they got trump it all. If they didn't enjoy their time and experience then, why would they rejoin the parade for the 2nd time again right? Also they have to pay the trip fees by themselves
@Kuma404 жыл бұрын
@@pan9497 Of course they had the best experience and such, but you are underestimating the fact that they still performed numerous shows at Disneyland within those five days, not only just this one in the footage. Yes, they may had couple of hours to explore and have fun at theme park, yet I'm pretty sure they still spent hours of practice for their own sub units at morning and night time, regardless. If you've never experienced Japanese marching band, then you're just seeing the tip of iceberg. I'm saying they're sacrificing their leisure time because even if their directors allowed them to have full rest day offs, the drum major lady and sub group leaders still coordinated choreography! That's how they're dedicated!

This is what marching choreography should look like they have set the bar very high for marching bands everywhere sometimes bands forget precision and timing are everything with Coreo unfortunately some bands just look plain sloppy trying to do something cool because timing precision and playing at the same time is very hard and needs to be rehearsed a lot this is an excellent performance and example of what a lot of rehearsal time can do make no mistake the kids from Japan worked hard to earn that trophy and money one of the best bands I've seen in my lifetime I ❤JAPAN

Yes, the PA announcer made a few silly comments, but at least he did help quite a bit behind the scenes to make sure that the band's performance went as smoothly as possible... I do want to mention the work of one of Tachibana's staff members, namely the one woman who served as the interpreter for the band. She was everywhere, doing the English translation for the band members, accepting the award for the band, marching on the parade route supplying water and checking on their health, and even pointing oiut to the PA guy that the band needed stationary microphones on he field for the solo artists. She deserves a lot of credit...

The funny part is this band is just a tip of millions of great high school bands in Japan who rotates their members every year, and the most crazy part, Japanese high school students have so much academic assignments at home (they have to study 3-5 hours at home aside from 6-period days). These kids probably are not sleeping at all.
These young people are simply brilliant and their parents must be so proud of them. Imagine the joy of their future children when they see their mothers doing this. Total Respect.
I'd also mention they have uttterly superb choreographers -- for each routine, whether it's a march down a street, a stadium, a gym, or whatever, they find the dimensions they have to work with. If you watch this band they never seem cramped and are always prepared for the situation they're going into.
@bingo4752 Жыл бұрын
The band is almost 100% student-led. Committees made up from band members select the music for their setlists and design the corresponding dance choreography. They do have teachers advising them, as well as part-time coaches who assist them in various fields, but most of the time the band members work just by themselves, senpai (older students) teaching kōhai (younger students).
@nicolesands2752 Жыл бұрын
@@bingo4752 Thank you, yes I've now seen that in other videos. So, are the students really doing that level of research into each venue? I think my statement on them having incredibly good choreographers stands; it's just that the choreographers are also student band members.
Hitomi's story and perseverance is Inspirational and Amazing. Apparently, She joined the band as a Sophomore, but after a few months of training, She felt too much pain. So She had surgery to reconfigure Her leg and provide a better fit for Her Prosthesis. As a result, She had to sit out Her Junior year to recover. And She came back for this, Her Senior Year!
