man, I'm Italian (some years older than you) and I live in Brazil, interior São Paulo, since 2007 with my Italian wife and son (plus my second son that was born here). You gave a really accurate description of how Brazil appears to a stranger. Nowadays I could not believe in the past I was different from that... endless parties and dinners, so many people, friends, beers, wine, etc. I now understand why sometimes strangers seems to be rude to the Brazilian people. Brazilians are so friendly, so cute, so wonderful that a stranger need some time to equalize. Brazil is a state of mind.

Brazilian here. His comment 5:13 about brazilian popular music is SOOO ON POINT! Many songs and artists from older decades are apreciated by all ages because their songs became popular classics. It's common to see even teenagers apreciating some songs that their parents and even grandparents used to hear. Like old sambas, forró, axé, sertanejo witch is a form of country music and etc. Even songs from the 19th century are still sung by people ocasionally. No joke. There are many "marchinhas de carnaval" (carnival march), old sambas and "modão sertanejos" (popular country music) that were commposed in the end of the 19th century that sometimes you hear at bars and partys. Also candoblé music (african religion that was brought by slaves) have influence over people of all ages to this day.

During the 70s and 80s Brazil went through a golden age of music. The best was as good as anything being produced anywhere else. There is a long list of stars who emerged and I apologise for any omissions: Tom Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Roberto Carlos, Elis Regina, Alcione, Emilio Santiago, Toquinho, Chico Buarque, Beth Carvalho, Rita Lee, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Ivan Lins, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Maria Bethania, Jorge Ben, Djavan, Marina Lima, Lulu Santos, Guilherme Arantes, Daniela Mercury, Maria Monte, Zizi Possi. The groups are not so strong, compared to the UK, but Boca Livre, Paralamas and Skank stand out.

I am a Brazilian and I hate saying goodbye to everyone, and sometimes people do get hurt. So annoying. I once went to Germany and some German folks who met me had all their thoughts about Brazil blown up by me because I'm not into carnaval, or samba, or capoeira, or football, or F1. I like many things, but almost nothing that people think is what all Brazilians like. My culture is not the culture that is exported as the genuine Brazilian soul.

I am a Brazilian and my main client is from the US. It's funny that very often I get into meetings and hear American folks discuss soccer, many times mentioning Brazil directly and some other relatable things to Brazilian culture without being able to keep up or even engage in the conversation. They say I'm the weirdest Brazilian they ever met. Some things for me are unspeakable such as a certain ritual which happens every single year... Sometimes I get a bit upset for seeing my homeland notably known by so many sickening things, but once in a while someone like Sam makes so really spot on remarks about what goes beyond the bad (in my personal opinion) things.

After I moved to cold Canada, where everybody is so cold and reserved, and then New York, which is just like Canada plus the mess and less the cleanliness, I became very isolated. Yes, if you're an introvert in a place where people are outgoing, you will fare better than being an introvert in a place of introverts. Sam, your perception of Brazil is very interesting because it is normal that, out of ignorance, people tend towards clichés and prejudice. This also happens in the opposite direction with Brazilians in relation to the USA. But there are two elements to this, the Country and the Nation. There is nothing to discuss about the first one, Brazil, like the USA, is a gigantic country and the amount of beauty is almost countless, probably impossible to see in one lifetime! The nation, the Brazilians, their culture and civilization have high points and low points, like anywhere in the world. The most important thing is to be open to understanding this. Congratulations.

About the number three (the "bumpy" issue), it's about temperature (and costs). As asphalt gets hotter, it starts to be more flexible. If you joint that with overloaded trucks/buses, then you mess with the streets. Second, as it rains A LOT here, the rain plumb system is also overloaded, that meaning more maintenances, and those maintenances means more openings at the streets. About the number four (how close houses are), it's a portuguese heritage. As a colonial heritage, Brazil first wasn't for rich people. The first habitants here (besides the indigenous people) was portuguese convicts, pirates (most british, but also dutch), portuguese settlers, so there wasn't rich people. The Brazil's republic started just in 1889, so Brazil's as a democratic country exists only by 135 years (USA have 248 years since independence). Our democracy isn't a good democracy. As a huge country, with bad politicians, you know what that lead to, right? You can say "people, do your job and choose the right politicians", but as you already noticed, the climate and the nature here are awesome, so people just chill, (unhappily) not bothering about politics.

It has nothing to do with temperature. The USA is way hotter on the summer and the asphalt there doesnt get that way. It's just bad asphalt quality, it's as simple as that. A 3rd world issue.

I have lived CT and FL for 35 years now, so I've become americanized in many ways, but one thing I can not and will never get used to is how careless many Americans can be when it comes to that. Often, I'm engaged in a conversation that seems everyone is enjoying it, and suddenly, they turn around and leave without even saying 'goodbye'. Otherwise, when Americans notice your worm reception, the majority will respond comparably. All they need is a little spark thown at them. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Brazilian here. Leaving a place without at least saying 'goodbye' to the people present implies you haven't enjoyed those people's companionship. Unfortunately, that'll be our first thought to it. Perhaps, some people might also think you are a snob if don't say goodbye before leaving, which is not good at all because eventually they'll cut you out of their fun [and by fun I do really mean it] activities. Funny thing is, Brazil is a 200+ million people country larger in territory than the contiguous USA, so, culture as well as the way the Portuguese language is spoken vary a lot through this nation. Native Brazilians themselves have cultural and language barriers sometimes within this country, but they'll always find an instant way to integrate, that's usually done with a kind compliment on a person's ability with something such as a foreign language they speak or a sport they practice and excel at - usually their abilities, not their looks - although complimenting someone's hairdo or makeup followed by a smile may sound friendly [be extra careful while complimenting girls, though]. Also, be willing to listen to people's stories and get to learn a thing or two from their experiences shared with you, they'll praise you highly for mentioning you learned something about our culture from them. All in all, I think we Brazilians just want to have a good time with the people we're with and build some fond memories we can sit around on a gloomy day and reminisce about to lift our spirits. Brazil in a nutshell: Be kind, keep it respectful, simple and nice. If a situation gets uncomfortable, just leave before it gets out of hand - apologize one or two days later if you feel you should. Follow these simple guidelines and you'll make a lot of friends in no time.

I absolutely loved this video. I am enthralled with Brazilian culture, but basically because of the language and the music and you touched upon the music I listen to Brazilian music all day long. I know some of the language but I am not fluent I don’t think there is a more beautiful music than a good deal of Brazilian music, I have a list of favorites and I also have a list of new members of the pop music in Brazil and some of them are absolutely fabulous. I cried for three days when the legendary gal Costa passed away a couple years ago I would love to go to Brazil, but sadly, I really don’t have any money to travel as I retired earlier. I also have heard that Brazil is kind of dangerous for solo travelers. I will subscribe

I’m Brazilian but I’m introvert. From my point of view, for an introvert, it’s more challenging to live in an extrovert society, we strugle more for the fact that we don’t fit the majority.

about houses being close to each other, not all houses respect building regulations, and there's also a flexibility to it depending on the zone you're in. The cost of 2 or 3 meters less on a land would be much more compromising for poor people than it is for rich,. That's why you see so much of it.

Even though it is a video about his general impressions of Brazil... In the comment on current Brazilian music, I must say that I have the same impression of current American music. We know that in a period of the 1960s we saw the emergence of popular music with a very rich language coming from a dialogue of the highest level between the so-called English Rock and American Rock. Today, in current times, after decades of social engineering that has made all Western culture decay and especially the dialogue impeded by a cultural Marxism that began with the emptying of language and now ends its work in the emptying of people's own character!

Hey! I'm another brazillian who instantly lazer focused the random video with "Brazil" in it's title on my feed and came to comment. Anyways, speaking from the perspective on an introvert born and raised here, it's interesting how it's so natural to me to announce that I'm leaving that I don't even relate to it being introverted or extroverted at all. I usually avoid big social gatherings in general most of the time, but when I go to one I often don't interact with anyone other than who came with me, and me automatically saying "Eu tô indo embora agora, tchau gente, até mais!" towards my back when I leave is probably the only thing most people hear of me. I'll point out too, in an event like a birthday party or something else dedicated towards a specific person, you can usually just give farewells to that person specifically when you leave and it won't be seen as rude. Especially if it's an event with a lot of people you don't know.

@@TheSamBeckactually I heard once from a literary source that maybe this slang is derived from the ancient rivalry between British and French people. So in this literary source the character says “let’s leave by the French mode as the British say, or by the British mode as the French say”.

@@RogerioLupoArteCientifica As a brazilian, I can say you got the origin of this slang right... though elaborating on it makes it actually funnier... It happens that when Napoleon, emperor of France, declared the Continential Blockade (or whatever it's called), D. João VI, king of Portugal, escaped to Brazil with help from the English... He helped develop Colonial Brazil at that time, called something like the "Joanin Period" in english ("Período Joanino", in portuguese)... however, he kinda got the reputation of a coward because of it... after all, he made a little "french escape" you know... 😂
