All polyglots on the web I find are usually European who speak very similar or related languages like Spanish, Portugese, Italian, French, English and German. I admire their multi-lingual talent, except I know a lot of people (from Europe) who could do so because these languages are not so different, and some people were born in areas where acquisition of many languages from childhood is not uncommon. And some of them never boasted about it. Some languages, like Chinese, are very very easy to speak (although reading will take time to learn the characters). But it's still rare to see a European or American who can speak it well. People from Asia are less likely to be multi-lingual. Japanese language is totally different from Chinese, and learning it remains difficult even if you already know Chinese characters. However, it shows that the "polyglots" tend to be rarer outside the language family they can closely relate to. It takes far more determination to learn a new language from scratch. And any claim like "I know the secret of learning a new language in 6 weeks" should never be treated seriously.

At the moment, I am trying to learn Spanish, French and Japanese. I'm more focusing on French as most of my family can speak it fluently and I want to join in with them. After watching this video, I realized how beautiful Italian and Portuguese are. I never really thought about them or heard them often so I really enjoyed it. I love the way romance languages sound :). Great job on the pronunciation! This is really encouraging for those who want to learn languages :) I was wondering, have you tried to speak to other people who speak the other languages fluently? If so, did you have a fear of speaking at first and were you able to over come it? I am having such a hard time trying to get out of my shell when it comes to speaking...I don't want to make mistakes and be made fun of for it :( Thank you.

I'm a 14 year old American and really want to learn more languages in my life. I studied french from when I was 6 to when I was around 11 but forgot everything due to my lack of practice. Now I study Chinese (since I was 11) and will continue until I'm 18. Is college too late to start french again and maybe try and learn Spanish also to a fluent level?

it's nice that you're able to speak a lot of the romance languages. I study French, Spanish, Welsh and Latin at school. I like them all equally but I practise Spanish the most because my boyfriend speaks Spanish :D. It would be nice to be able to speak Italian and Portuguese one day but whether I will I don't know hahah. I like Welsh because it's not a Latin language so hardly any of the words are similar to any other language that I'm learning which is a blessing and a curse at the same time hahah. I live in Wales by the way :)
