@@karlboyes7844 can you please explain, if you are ultimately hitting the cue ball above Centre, why do you (and most other pros) aim so low on the cue ball during the practice strokes ? By the way, Great video, and love your back stage access content during the matchroom events! Keep up the good work !
@Krushard2 жыл бұрын
@@MrAseemgrover I believe what he's doing is similar to a jump shot but a very microscopic one. You elevate the cue and drive the ball into the table, which makes it fly, bounce up off the pack and land in the center. Flashy but probably not easy to stay consistent with all this body movement. I'm wondering if there is a good 10ball break among pros that doesn't require elevated cue.
@MrAseemgrover2 жыл бұрын
@@Krushard I agree, the elevation does give the shot a jump shot like feel. But even then, during the practice strokes, I’d still like to be aiming where I will hit the ball. Above Centre in this case. And that’s what I’m confused about
@Krushard2 жыл бұрын
@@MrAseemgrover You can aim where you want to hit if you stay still but then it's less power. Once you start throwing your body into the shot the cue tip will do this sketchy movement naturally, because of the long swing. I'm still not entirely convinced it's the best way to break tho, the extreme of it would be de Luna's wild Mortal Kombat blow: looks good, rarely works.

Karl loved the video, I've been struggling a lot with my 8 & 10-ball break, I've lost count of how many "break like a pro" videos I've watched on YT. You're the first to explain the importance of bridge hand elevation resulting in a higher angle on the cue and hitting down into the cue ball. One thing I'm trying to find more information on, is a more thorough explanation of weight transfer with the lower body. If you have time, would be a great video. Also, l loved the look on your face when you were getting ready for a level "10" break :)

Good video. I have been thinking a lot about this lately and intend to work on it after the virus thing is over. I wonder why pool players rise up as they are breaking. I know it's all about timing and being in the right position for the contact of the cue ball. It seems to me a more consistent and powerful break would be to line up, rise to a more elevated position and then pull the trigger on the break. (less movement) If you compare it to say an underhand softball pitcher. They do not start the pitch from a crouching position, but stay standing upright to get the most powerful throw. IDK, maybe I will revolutionize pool breaking.

Sounds intriguing 🧐

They rise up bc it's hard to get a long back stroke while standing and also bc it helps to get power from allowing the elbow to drop.

Hey Karl, I'm definitely back with a couple of questions or solidification on both hand placements on the break. Bridge hand higher yes, raise your stroking arm up and aim down the shaft like using the bottom of a triangle? Aim point on the cue ball is low like a draw shot? Then after making the visual on the apex ball (aiming center on the object ball), a few practice strokes if needed then final follow thru place the tip just above center and follow thru? I'm hoping those questions make sense? Final question, please... why are you not competing? I'm in the U.S., but I'm a fan no doubt...... if you're willing to share. Casey McCoy on FB..... Once again I appreciate you!!!!
@karlboyes78443 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm a little lost with it hahaha, when you strike the cueball your wanting a centre just above hit, high bridge hand creates the pop, which ultimate avoids scratching in the side, however takes lots of practise 😀😀

Do most pros break the same for 10 and 8 ball? (Besides the second ball 8 ball break) I 99% of the time play 8 ball, with a few 9 balls sprinkled in there when i'm bored. And my break is very inconsistent. When i try and do a power break, placing the cueball one or two ball spaces away from the center, i can pocket balls more often, but i have no cue ball control. The cue ball jumps off the table some of the time aswell. I guess my question is can you get a good pop on the cue ball and make balls when you break softer(70-80% power)? Thanks again for all the tios Karl. Would love to see you do some 8 ball break and runs, and go through your thought process. (P.s. sorry for the essay 😂)
@karlboyes78443 жыл бұрын
I will do that for sure, I have done few pointers on 8ball if you have not seen the video take a look, also yes 70/80% is ok, your not hitting the head ball full enough so Cueball flying off the table, work on hitting it square a lot softer and increase power once you become better at hitting it full 🙂

So... yes, I do have questions!! 1. Is this break technique just for 10-ball? Or can it be applied to other formats as well? 2. Why do you want a pop on the cue ball? What purpose does the pop serve? It looks like you got a good enough break with a level cue. Love the intro. Needs more metal tho. ;)

If you watched any of the Michael Montgomery Memorial 10-Ball Mini Tournament, I hope you noticed that the means for an effective break shot was Pattern Racking. Pattern Racking is a means of fixing the rack for the object balls to be placed in a radius of a desired location. If you pattern break a patterned rack, it can be seen as a method of "fixing" the rack. Check out our video mosaic of James Aranas pattern racking and breaking at the 2021 MMMT 10-Ball tournament Read the info on the video as well as it details a mathematical paper we are publishing on why Pattern Breaking is a skill; but, why pattern breaking a Patterned Rack is the same as cheating and should be universally banned from the cue sports.
