This video is all about pushing the limits of your figures for more excitement and energy. Sometimes the difference between dynamic and boring comes down to a few small changes, and being willing to push things just a bit further. I've covered a variation of this subject before, but it's so important, and so much fun for me to do, I wanted to dive in and take on some more. Every figure presents its own unique challenge, but the more strategies you have in your toolkit, the further you can take them.
Thanks so much for watching! If you enjoyed, please hit like and subscribe, and share with your friends.

Its interesting how a simple pose can change a characters demeanor. In the 4th example the first attempt appears hesitant but courageous, but in the second he's assertive and bold

Great video Dave! This has been super helpful in tandem with my Loomis head studies and gesture sketches. If I could suggest, as someone who always struggles with hands, a video on dynamic hand poses would be great to go along with this. You have your hands down to a shorthand at this point, and they all look so great and on point.

Excellent video! The way I read the last one makes it seem like two very different actions. The revised version looks like he's getting ready to do something, the original pose looks more like something has already happened and he's reacting, like he's getting to his feet after landing from a jump. They're both great, but unlike the others this one looks more like they're two completely different actions rather than evolving the same action pose.

This video is an absolute blast! Love that it’s focussed on getting from a 70 to 100% more dynamism in a figure! That extra mile isn’t something that’s talked enough about on KZfaq tutorials. Incidentally, it’s the first time I’ve noticed just how much you press into the paper! Just an extra little quirks and fascinating details that would be awesome to see if they ever have the wisdom to do one of those huge artist’s edition of your work. Hope they do! Cheers

Great description of the process and thought that goes into what may seem a 'simple' drawing. To be able to capture and convey emotion in a human body to fit the situation in a storyline as seen can be v.difficult. In the second example the first figure seems to be contemplative at the edge of a crater looking at a crash site perhaps, the modified figure is ready to take action after sizing up that situation, great work.

I love how you exaggerated the form, as a person who does not draw superheroes and into the more subtler stories, I actually find the less dynamic figures more appealing at times. its all a matter of choices and what serves the story though, I understand.

That last pose looked like he was kneeling. I would have straightened his back. And brought the knee on the ground forward to make a better kneeling pose. Even heros do ordinary things sometimes. In fact, they do ordinary things most of the time. And if they are fixing a machine, they won’t look like they are fighting or doing sports.

Nice video, thanks. A question unrelated to the specific content, how does everything in the video end up getting reversed (as in mirror image)? The lettering on your mic, the words on the coffee bag, etc. I'm just wondering how that happens. So, you're left-handed or right-handed? In the video it looks like left-handed, but if the image is reversed . . . ?

Not really the point of the video, but I really like the pose at 9:43. Looks like the mysterious fella is taking a short break on top of a subway or some other moving object in Manhattan or wherever he might be living, balancing against the motions of the train, legs dangling over the side, and getting ready to transition back into a more manual approach to traveling.
