Thank you, Devo. To the lady - they did NOT "split" as a band. The band is intact, love each other, and, in fact, they just performed a Free huge concert that was crazy good in Busan, South Korea. They Are, however, working on solo works, which they may have started to do because they knew they would enlist if the Government didn't come through with an exemption for them. Frankly, I think they took the matter in there own hands to stop the lack of response and back and forth from their Government. They love their country too, as they should, so feel they are doing the right thing. Fan base is sad, but remaining supportive of our BTS and waiting for them to come back in 2025 as a group. In the meantime, there are solo works that will be coming out over the next months and we look forward to those.

Exactly what I thought - Jin especially was creeping up on the deadline, and taking the opportunity to take a small breather, explore himself a bit artistically and leave his mark before going in makes perfect sense. Also, I'm interpreting their comments on reuniting in 2025 as a hint that they may do what I personally believe would be the only sensible thing - enlist as quickly as possible to get their collective service over and done with. Otherwise it will be seven years before they've all done their service, if every member up to Jungkook waits until the last minute to go in. If they volunteer to enlist now, they might all be able to go in during 2023, and then they will all be done in 2025. They've always shown that they hate being one member short, and going on for years and years with one, two, three or four members missing (when the 94 and 95 line go in) would probably be more painful and depressing to them than to just be apart for two years.

Devo keeps speaking the truth. To any non-fans reading the comments, BTS didn't split. They announced in June 2022 that they're focusing on solo activities for the foreseeable future but they're still performing together as a group. This month alone they attended and performed at an awards show and had a stadium concert in South Korea. Other than that, great coverage on this story!

Just so you know, BTS just held a FREE concert in a stadium in Busan, South Korea with 50,000 attendance, 12,000 watched live play outside the stadium, 50 million people watched live stream from over 220 countries. And it's FREE! That is BTS impact. During Mic Drop performance, RM changed the lyrics from "live a life, man" to "live a life, suckers!" is probably referring to the Kpop industries, politicians etc. who tried to profit and benefit from BTS but fail to give them their due respect 🤭 Anyhow, ARMY will stay loyal and support them with whatever they decide. We're actually happy they took this matter into their own hands 🤗

BTS didn't split. The members made that clear. They started solo projects and were also doing group promotions. And I totally agree with you Devo. You make so.much sense. But the boys made this decision on their own because there was debates from the government if they would exempt them and could never come up with an answer. So the boys took it upon themselves and enlisted and said they are proud to do so because it is their duty. They never spoke a word on wanting to be exempt they always have said they will enlist and do their duty. So in my opinion I believe they started solo projects to prepare us all around the world for their enlistment. So proud of them. They will be back in 2025 they said as a group and better than ever! And they promised that, and army's promise we will wait! 💜

They did not “split” before this. Thank you, Devo! You make more sense than many experts. BTS were underdogs and ‘made it’ outside of Korea before they were recognized within Korea. The problem here is that once again, Koreans don’t seem to truly understand the value of this group. Imagine if the UK govnmt forced the Beatles to split up during the height of their career. Now imagine that they did this when the group brought in hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy, a percentage of the Korean national GDP. Korean lawmakers are out of touch and want to use them in whatever way they can, whether it is their brand or their bodies. It’s such a shame and only will outside media coverage change anything. Koreans are like that.

I'm beginning to think that the only way non-ARMY Korea is going to genuinely appreciate what BTS have done for the country is to let them take the fall. Let BTS enlist: let the Hallyu wave evaporate, let the EXPO bid be lost because EXPO ambassadors got sidelined in the critical year. (EXPO committee will choose the host city in 2023- Nov 2023.) Let them crash, let the tourism dry up and the sales vanish and the interest just die away. I think only that will be sufficient to drive in the fact that this is not just another one of those many K-pop groups that everyone's so jaded about. And that other groups, no matter how hard-working and dedicated, simply cannot fill the gap. BTS have nothing to worry about, we ARMYs are about the most loyal fanbase out there, and we'll wait. But we've never once suggested that loyalty to BTS = loyalty to South Korea or its obstinate, ungrateful, greedy, backwards government. People keep telling us Internationals to keep our opinions out of it because it's an internal matter; it's not, but if that's what their attitude is, we can just hang on to our cash, turn off our votes and streams and support, find other places to visit and cultures to appreciate (I'm going to Italy next summer, not Korea...) and wait for BTS's comeback.

@@haeleelee6885 Try looking into your own history, you can not deny the impact BTS has had on their country. History is made silent first by it's own people. If you want people to know about your country, then let them know EVERYTHING, not just the bits and pieces you feel are relevant. You don't have to like them or their music, you don't have to support them, but in the future when people are looking back at this moment as "history", BTS will be a part of that. They had every intention to serve because it is what all good (male) citizens should do. They chose to serve normal enlistment time because the government was kicking their feet and they were tired of waiting. From the outside looking in, it seems like the government was trying to squeeze everything they can out of BTS before sending them in to serve and assumed that BTS would be accommodating because they held the "possibility" of an exemption or alternative service over their heads. I agree that people outside of Korea shouldn't really have a say in the military. But they have every right to speak on BTS because they belong to the world. Edit: Just realized I responded to someone who is desperately copy and pasting their comment on as many other comments as possible. Oh well, I stand by it.

@@haeleelee6885 Oh, you think we I-ARMYs have no say on this matter? And just where do you think your country would be if not for us? Shall we find out? Shall we shut down your hallyu wave for a few years and see how you like it? You know, the whole point of which is the enormous degree of international influence that BTS have brought you- you do understand that, don't you? Seventh most influential nation in the world in 2021...because of K-pop. Soft power enough to try for an EXPO hosting, and oh, look who your EXPO ambassadors are. BTS. Best-selling albums, most-streamed videos, most awarded group in history... Now who was it that made BTS so successful? I'll give you a hint: it wasn't Korean radio, Korean TV, or Korean music shows. It wasn't the citizens all bored with K-pop groups, and definitely not the other K-pop fandoms, was it? Now. Just who do you think you are to try and declare who knows what about your country? What an arrogant little sot you are. You have no clue at all what people have learned about your country, your government, your society and the traditions that you hold more important than the present and future. I know all about your military, I've studied it in depth these past two years. I know who gets exemptions at the government's whim, guidelines be damned. I know your laws state there's supposed to be a specific number of active soldiers at all time, and I know your population is dropping- in part thanks to all the suicides among young people- to the point where it will soon require more than 100% of the male population to fulfil that required number. I know how men in the military treat each other; I know soldiers get paid a pittance and the government pockets all the profits the men might have earned during their enlistment. Incidentally, I do know a great deal about the brutal domination of Korea by Japan, and Japan's constant efforts to cast themselves as victims. I also know of China's efforts to claim everything of significance that Korea's ever done. I wonder how much you could tell me about England vs Ireland, or US vs Mexico? So, why did I learn all of this? Why, because BTS caught my interest. What you and others like you seem to refuse to understand is that being interested in your country is one thing, and being loyal ARMY to BTS is a different thing altogether. Our loyalty to, and affection for, BTS does not extend to you, your country, and your government. Just as someone's love of Coldplay does not extend to loving England and Boris Johnson, or love of Silk Sonic does not mean you love America and Donald Trump. We have tolerated the fact that Korea and BTS go together, and we have been curious, but we are NOT loyal to South Korea or its government. (Especially not after watching them for the past three years. The US military is particularly displeased with you at this time, you know, because your government simply will not give any sort of answer to where they stand on China.) And we do NOT feel any obligation to support you when you insult us, offend us, call us ignorant, and tell us to keep quiet. If you don't want internationals having opinions and making criticisms, then go curl yourself up in your K-cocoon- just like your horrible northern neighbors- and go on trying to pretend the rest of the world has no significance. And be ready to pay the price: obscurity, indifference to your welfare, a return to 'struggling emergent' and 'third world nation'. One of these days, I am going to pin a Korean into a corner and make them explain why in the world they keep claiming that, 'You will serve or you will be severely punished' is in any way honorable. There never has been, and never will be, anything 'honorable' about Forced Servitude. The honor in service comes from choosing- CHOOSING- to put country ahead of self, not in being made to do it or else. BTS have chosen honorably, but if they had not chosen, their service would not be any more honorable than any other man's.

finally someone who actually uses their brains. and this issue is not only abt bts, the issue goes far as the entire law and system itself. governor officials and their sons have been exempted, mayors of cities have been exempted, the current minister and president also have not served the military. the absolute hypocrisy of this so called "law" and higher ups. they said bts should serve as they should set an example to korean men, but why is it that the higher ups themselves arent setting an example? this is straight up injustice. and i repeat, the issue is not only limited to that. the military service process itself is dark, there r reports where soldiers r being mistreated, harassed and abused. the entire thing is just fucked up. not to mention, the media and the government has also been using this controversy with bts since 2018 as a way to distract the citizens from actual issues in other words, its mediaplay. lastly, there has been news in south korea that the government is actually still seeking ways for bts to be able to promote music and perform overseas WHILE ALSO SERVING IN THE MILITARY. why? because a soldier is prohibited from engaging in economic activities. this means, the profit bts will make from their music will not be given to them, it will be given to the gov/ministry of defense. in short, the government is trying to take all of bts' profit and milk off of them. whats crazier is theyre not even trying to hide it, it just recently got broadcasted on the news. the sk government should be called out for their corruption. Edit: LMFAO GUYS APPARENTLY 1M KOREANS ARE PROTESTING TO OVERTHROW THEIR PRESDIENT. If this isnt enough reason how fucked up korea is rn then idk. Devo- you are absolutely correct. The volume of money and recognition that BTS has brought to their country far exceeds any other. They say athletes and classical musicians have gotten exemptions for these reasons, but can ANYONE outside of their country even name a single one of those people? BTS has also spoken at the White House and the UN (twice) in support of their country and culture. Is having a few extra people on your military for a brief time really worth the loss of revenue and respect Korea will receive over the next couple of years. They did so much good for Korea and Korea is doing them dirty.

It’s wild how so-called anchors/media hosts/writers are so massively uninformed on something they could simply look up themselves. It takes less than five minutes to understand the impact of BTS, the records they’re holding/broke, and the status of their hiatus (not actual split). Devo knows his stuff so of course he went viral because accurately acknowledging their impact and talent in the news is rare. Also these people are so smarmy. Yikes. Ignorant as hell. What was all that commentary at the end about democracy and whatnot and emphasizing him “saying an opinion”. Sorry to break it to them, but the Beatles and Elvis had nothing on BTS’ global records and achievements and White America can’t stand that fact.

BTS did not split. They made a decision to focus on solo albums for the moment (the band spoke about this during their busan concert). Fans were a bit confused about why they suddenly made this decision, but now it is clear the decision was because of their military duty. Because the oldest member Jin has to do his military service next year, BTS could not plan any concerts, albums, tours as a group. After all members complete their military duty, the band will perform as a whole in 2025 (according to HYBE, their company). There is public debate about the hypocrisy of the law that exempts only gold medalist athletes and classical musicians who achieved a certain award, but the exemption does not extend to kpop artists who have achieved even more for the country. The main reason is that there is not as an objective standard, such as a gold medal or esteemed classical music award, to measure the kpop artist's success. Nevertheless, it is a great disappointment that BTS has to suspend their success streak because of this.

Government and politicians have been unclear on this matter making it difficult for BTS to plan their upcoming activities. After the Busan concert, Hybe did announce that Jin will file for cancellation of the deferral in October, and he will get enlisted according to the government protocols.

BTS chose to go. This man, or any non-Korean, has no right to have any opinion on this matter. The history of our country, the countless sacrifices of those who have gone before us for us to be here today as a nation and people does not run through his veins nor does he have any inkling to the magnitude of our resilience and survival to the evils of foreign forces. How belittling of all of you to say something so thoughtless so that you can get views and go viral on such a serious topic that affects our daily lives. Not just North Korea of today, but for thousands of years, we have had japan, china, russia, america, constantly meddling in our affairs and bringing carnage to our people. The Korean military exists to protect this nation and its great history of goodness and survival, this includes BTS. No amount of singing and dancing is going to stop the brutality of a potential invasion brought on by the evils of man. BTS understands this all too well. The government had not made any decision. BTS chose to go because they are 7 individuals amongst the countless who call themselves Korean who love and cherish this nation and its people. Sacrifice is a duty and not a whim. BTS did not make this nation what it is today. Blood, Sweat, and Tears of countless who went before us did. Shame on you people for being so frivolous with your words in speaking out about something you have zero idea about. If you have any care about this matter, I encourage you to study our history and open your eyes to something that has been smothered into being silent for much too long.

@@haeleelee6885 so why were people exempted in the past and why didn’t the actual president of South Korea serve in the military? All we are saying is, the laws and the lawmakers are hypocrites
@haeleelee6885
@haeleelee6885 Жыл бұрын
@@Queensljme That's a valid question, so I will answer. Things change over time. It was done in the past because we as a nation was very broken from the criminal japanese occupation for 40 years and then geo-political war, followed by political unrest. After decades of nothing but hard work to rebuild, we started to see individuals who were excelling not just in our country but worldwide, although it was few and far inbetween. In the past, when this occurred, it was a huge boost to our morale as a people and the whole celebrated. It gave us to stop working at our tireless jobs and smile, cry and laugh from happiness and joy. During the japanese occupation (1910-1945- started with their slaying our last Empress Myeongseong 1895), they made us feel like worthless people who needed to be trained like dogs. That can have a lot of affect not only on the individual but the entire nation in trying to maintain our identity. So after the war and the start of our rebuilding, the exemptions were more than fair, because it gave us pride and hope. We all wanted them to get exemptions because it felt like we were all being recognized as a member of the human race. (It's hard to explain this feeling). However since the past recent decades, a lot of koreans have risen to the top and helped us to regain our country (this includes all the little and simple people who worked and still work countless hours and contribute every single day). However, with all good things, there is the bad. There was and is a period where the powerful and rich started to abuse this exemption for their children and friends. It became a huge problem. So people became very skeptical and naturally didn't want to serve because once again, the rich were taking advantage of the poor and powerless. In the process of fixing this problem, BTS is playing a huge role. By volunteering to go, they also remind everyone the importance of serving for one's country, that serving means thanking those who went before us for their sacrifices. For without them, BTS and every single Korean would not have a culture, nation to call our own. BTS will be loved even further for this role. They know how important this move is not only for their career but for their nation and people as well. They have always said that they would serve. BTS love their people and nation more than anything else in this world. To love one's nation and culture in this way is a right for every single human that walks this earth. There are several different exemptions, one- excellence, two-health, three-only son for several generations (they get light training for defense purposes). Unlike the previous president who paraded BTS as a show piece to improve his international image, the current president Yoon has not done this and stays away from using them as any personal purposes. President Yoon received a legit medical exemption. You know about this because the previous moon's party continues to spread hate info on Yoon.(corrupt moon and his wife are now being investigated for misspending a large amount of tax money and illegally sending North Korean fishermen back to North Korea who were then executed)

Thanks so much to Devo for saying what he did. BTS is a South Korean national treasure. Literally. The Hyundai Research Institute stated that 7% of all international visitors were visiting the country due to BTS. This was back in 2017, BEFORE they dominated on a global level. The same research institute's current assessment of BTS's financial contribution to the South Korean economy is $3.6 billion with another $1.3 billion in added value, (4.9 billion USD total) BTS is quite unique in that they do much humanitarian work and as such were named Special Envoys to the US, by the past SK president, when they accompanied him to speak at the U.N in September of 2021. This was their second time being invited to the UN (first was 2017). US President Biden invited them to speak at the White House on Asian Violence and Racism in 2022. BTS were the youngest artists ever to be awarded the SK Merit of Cultural Achievement, a very prestigious honor. They have spearheaded campaigns that target today's youth, such as Love Yourself and Speak Yourself. Additionally, they were the best selling artists world-wide in 2020 and 2021, and are on track for winning this year as well. Time magazine even named them Entertainer of the Year 2020 and they are also on Time's List of most influential people. All of this is to say, they absolutely deserved to be exempt from the military service. Olympic athlete medal winners, Asian Games gold medalists, and some classical musicians are exempted from military service because they are considered to have already served their country. BTS certainly belongs in this elite group of exemptions.

It’s such a joke the way the government has handled this. It’s sad that it has always seemed like BTS gets more support outside of their country, like if you watch interviews of regular people over there, they have no idea how much of an impact BTS has actually had because Korean media still doesn’t give them the attention after all these years. And often times like the media everywhere, they’ll twist things to fit their narrative which is why BTS got hate because they were implying that they were running away from their military duties. You can't find these names because the people that got exempt they're not recognizable names. They don't see pop artists as actual musicians that's the other problem here. They actually did a little meeting earlier today and they said that they still want to try to get BTS to perform for the government while they're enlisted that's not right. While serving your country you cannot get paid for your music while you are enlisted that money goes back to the military and not the artist that's another problem. Like this segment was going good until... The lady said that they split before this came out they split as a band they didn't split they are still promoting as a group with commercials and even games they have a collaboration with cookie run right now. They have been crucified for the last few months because people do not appreciate what they have done for their own country they even downplayed their Grammy nominations. People on the outside really don't understand what's going on it's kinda sad. Ever since Jin turned 25 that's the last four to five years they have been dragging this thing on BTS did not ask for exemption. The other 26 Kpop companies are the ones that petitioned the government for this exemption thing for K-pop artists AKA idols. BTS and their company were not included in these talks but they used their achievements to try to get exemption for the other idols that were not doing what BTS has done. Thats another thing that has pissed me off about this whole thing. We are not Korean we're on the outside but we see everything that those 7 men have done for their country. They have some of the highest awards that you can get as a citizen of that country. BTS have become the youngest ever recipients of the Hwagwan Orders of Cultural Merit for their services to the promotion of Korean pop culture and Hangul, the Korean alphabet. I'm serious they used their awards their achievements to try to get exemptions for people that haven't touched any of those levels. Let me stop talking cause I literally want to scream. They had a free concert over the weekend October 15th in Busan nearly 70,000 in person could be more because the public could just gather but they weren't counting those people. They still had to PROVE it to them because again the military defense or whatever crap is called have been dragging them along for the last 4 to 5 years. BTS took their power back and said they are going to enlist they were going to enlist anyway because like I said they never asked for this!!! Ahhh let me stop talking for real. DEVO - you are speaking for all of us. Thank you. Great analysis. The US News Media is really talking and scrutinizing the BTS enlistments. Most interesting is all the questions and unfavorable remarks about the military and govenrmental groups. What are they thinking? Economic US articles stated that BTS shook the fiancial market, and contributed 'greatly' to the countries economy. The question: are 7 men in the military more important to Korea than 7 men working for Korea's repretation and monitarial contributions to that small country? Millitary service is going to impact Korea, more than military service is going to impact BTS. Could this be a huge mistake being made by Korea? Probably so. HYBE stocks may be fine now, but probably not as good a year from now. There is even talk of boycotting Korean merchdise and travel because of the lack of honor given to BTS.

Their a been very few cases where people have been exempted from service (either gold metalist at Olympics, or classical musicians or rich politician sons or if physically/mentally can’t serve). Their have been people who have done alternative service (their was a basketball team that went to a semi finals, their have been a few idols, rich politician sons, etc). Why BTS haven’t got at least an alternative is just sad and embarrassing… I respect BTS decision if it is something they want not because they where pushed into and because they are law abiding citizens. I am proud of BTS. I will however continue to support and wait patiently until 2025. P.S. they haven’t split. Yes they probably will be going into military at separate times but it doesn’t mean BTS has split up. They are very much together and have talked about doing music together for 10,20 years coming. 💜

@@haeleelee6885 First, everyone has a right to speak their opinion, no matter who or what subject it maybe. The reporter is talking about the absurdity of the Korean military exemption system. All Korean men have to do the military service however, an average 20 thousand men are exempt from the service every year because Korean government recognize these men’s special talent or abilities. Korean government allows these men’s talents to be continued and thus benefited for the good of country rather than them serving military term. I have been living overseas for the last 40 years. I have never experienced what I am experiencing now as a Korean due to positive influence made by BTS. These boys have lifted up the image of South Korea so high beyond any Koreans has ever done. Not even Korean foreign affairs diplomatises, which spend hundreds of millions could do what the boys have done for their country. If any Korean has to be exempted from the military service, it has to be BTS. Have you thought about why HEUNG MIN SON is exempted? I am not in any way trying to undermine Son’s contribution for the country. What about all these years of Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalists? What about all the classical pianists and singers?... You are right. BTS did not make what it is Korea today. Neither Son heung min nor accolated pianists nor anyone. It is as Koreans, we all contributed to make what it is Korea now. And will continue to be so. I understand that these people totally dedicated their life to get to where they are. Indeed, they deserved to be admired and respected. I do not think BTS boys' dedication for their entire life for their music any less than the people who are exempted from the military service. Literally the boys are the best ambassadors ever existed in Korean history. Shouldn’t they be more encouraged and promoted to do what they are doing best? These boys are contributing country’s positive image, economic growth, tourism, Korean culture, Korean language etc. Can you think of anyone who has ever done the mentioned above in Korean history? It’s BTS. I am living in a small city. I often hear BTS songs sung in Korean in a supermarket. The other day, at the outdoor restaurant, I overheard a group of excited teenagers talking about BTS concert at the next table. This is what soft power all about. To me, it is utter stupidity of the Koran government. BTS is a huge resource for South Korea in terms of its value and influence on the world. It is A total mismanagement of its resource. It is a great shame!

It cuts their careers in their prime! when they have the world at their feet and they in all their capacities to continue doing shows. military service is serious business! they are beings who always transmit and live in love, peace and values. and the service is the exact opposite! It is a harsh, hostile environment, with weapons, violence, abuse of power from high ranks, they do not have any privacy, and it is a significant physical wear and tear! Many are left with consequences on their knees, for example, from everything they make them do! And we're not even talking about the bullying they can suffer for being famous!!

@@haeleelee6885 Excuse me? I have no problem with BTS going to the military and supporting their country, in fact I'm proud of their stance. However my question is aren't they worth considering for exemption? You go on about young Korean men being proud of being able to stand up for the Nation, and your history, great (apparently some are not so happy about it). What about those others that have already been exempted??? What do you say about them? Never heard of any of them (Olympians and classical musicians etc), never wanted to learn about SK or Hangugeo from any of them. It was BTS that brought your Nation to the world and made millions fall in love with your nation and culture. So we can certainly ask why they, with all their achievements done for your country including a massive input into your economy which NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE EVER BEFORE, why they couldn't also be exempted. Apparently only the elites get exempted in your nation and that's okay but not a group with world wide importance to 90 million people? How are 7 men who yes, sing and dance (and literarily saved lives) going to make a difference to the SK Army by not joining? Seems one rule for some and another for others. Do tell me where I've belittled anyone or being thoughtless by daring to ask the question.

@@haeleelee6885 BTS did not make this nation what it is today, but they have certainly contributed more to its prestige and economy in the last few years than any other who has received military exemption for the reason of increasing South Korean prestige worldwide. This is not about whether BTS wanted to be exempt or not. They are patriots and chose to go, that I agree. The issue is the government dragged their feet for too long, publicly going through talks about their exemption without input from BTS and they constantly received undeserved backlash from netizens as a result. No matter what their decision was, exemption or not, they continued to harm BTS' image through this. I'm glad that BTS was able to put an end to it now and take matters into their own hands but they have been saying for years whenever asked that if they were called on they would do their duty, they said this many many times. I think you are also underestimating the fact that BTS is a soft power at this point with the number of supporters they have, they are more than "singing and dancing" and their impact on the country and the world is undoubtedly a positive one. They have changed countless lives around the world and the people who support them continue to strive to make the world a better place together. At this point, they are a diplomatic power and even more importantly a uniting power. The duty of men going to the military is indeed important for all the reasons you mentioned especially because the nation has been occupied, attacked, and used by many countless times for far too long, but none of this is specifically about that duty, it is about BTS' achievements constantly, ever since they started their career, being downplayed and unrecognized for longer than they should be. The question of whether they are worthy compared to others in the eyes of their homeland is an enraging one considering their achievements. The fact that they have been the target of much hate when this question was even raised without their input is even more enraging. I have a feeling BTS would not have wanted to be exempt regardless of the decision because they are patriots like I mentioned. I also do not believe the people in these comments are being frivolous, they are angry at the mistreatment of people they love.

BTS accounts for approximately 0.5% of South Korea's income for the past 3 years or so. How can Olympic athletes be exempt but the biggest group in the world that brings in so much money and attention to South Korea can't?
@donggunoh3309
@donggunoh3309 Жыл бұрын
Firstly, Bts accounting for 0.5% of South Korea's income is not true(they have an economic effect of around 5 billion dollars and korea's gdp in 2021 was around 1798 billion so its around 0.28%). Also just because they bring in lots of money, it doesn't mean they should be exempt because with this logic the rich owners of companies like Samsung should also be exempt(Revenue of around 244 billion USD with an overall indirect economic effect even greater). They are also investing 346 billion dollars in the next 5 years which is much more significant than the money bts has brought in. The point is, under the law, everyone should be equal. All Korean men have sacrificed their youth to prorect their country and do you think they will be motivated and willing to protect their country with their lives if the rich and famous get exempt?
@ogoesther671

Thank you Devo for speaking up on this issue. The Korean government exempts Olympic medalists and classical musicians who they recognise as having raised their country's prestige, and promoted their culture. An example is Son Heung Min, a Tottenham Hotspur soccer player who was exempted for winning a gold medal. BTS has put Korea on the map by promoting Korean language & culture way beyond the people whom the law exempts. They have been Soeul's culture ambassadors for over 5 years now. in 2018, they were given a presidential award of Order of Cultural Merit for promoting Korean culture and for their achievements in raising the prestige of their country. Till date, they are the youngest recipients of this award since the history of Korea. That award ceremony is on KZfaq, you can look it up. Devo you're right by asking the question, why can't BTS get an exemption? They've done so much good for their country and the K-Pop industry. Yet this issue has been dragged for so long on whether they should be exempted or given alternative service, and their government has refused to make a decision. I'm glad these 7 precious men have made this move to end all the drama that's been happening regarding this issue. We'll support them all the way.

We always say "purple you" to each other and it means loving and trusting for a long time, and that's what we're gonna do 💜

I totally agree. I don't understand when other's are exempted for less and the world doesn't even know who they are while BTS are WORLDWIDE and bring so much in term of economy to their country. I don't understand.

Hi Devo, I appreciate that you've gone in and have actually tried to research SK's laws around enlistment and exemption. That is a lot more than many try to do.

I agree with Devo's opinion. The SK Gov made embarrassment for their own country. PLease tell me guys if you've heard, anyone / anywhere in this world who became the face/ ambassador for a INTERNATIONAL event in their own country had to fork their own pocket to do promotions for that particular event? BTS was chosen as SK ambassador to promote BUSAN EXPO 2030 and they had to pay from their own pocket to hold the last FREE BUSAN CONCERT. Their own politicians / government ride on BTS's fame and had been delaying decision for their military service for years already!!! They didnot want to make a decision because afraid of the backlash from certain minority who oppose BTS's military exemption. They're the world biggest entertainers at the moment and their own Gov threat them so badly. Who cares about "athletes", "classical musician", "etc" who get exempt from military service and nobody knows / heard about them and they also DID NOT bring in the money to SK's economy .. HAVEN'T BTS DONE ENOUGH TO PROMOTE SK INTO THE WORLD'S STAGE???

well said!! and I notice your anger!! I am in the same situation!! It is very angry what has happened with bts! How have they been used by the government without money in return! And since they have even acted as diplomats, the government has not recognized them for what they are worth!! always belittling them! and your society the same! always attacking them in the media and minimizing their achievements. they should leave korea!! and thus leave that country without the goose that lays the golden eggs!! Let's see what they do!! In the US or Japan they would surely value them much more!

I personally agree with him. I understand Koreans would feel some kind of way about hrs getting an exemption but who cares?! Btw has been spending most of their life caring about what others have to say. I just want them to live their life enjoying what they like to do. It’s hard for me to believe that military service is at the top of their list of things they want to do.

I totally agree! is what i think! Nobody wants to go to military service in Korea, especially 7 artists who are at the top of world music and what cost them so much to get there!! Locking them up for a year and a half to have a bad time is horrible! I really fear for them, for their physical and mental health after many idols told about the abuse they live in there and the stress and traumas! 💔 bts has been an example of love and joy to the world! and they don't deserve that! They deserve to be free and continue with their passion, which is music.

I'm only interested in Korea because of BTS. Many people in Africa only believed there were 2 Asian countries. Japan and China. Now Africans know South Korea.

I feel like even if the government gave them the exemption, it wouldn't sit right with the members themselves. You have to remember that they were brought up in a society that taught them that as a man, it's your duty to serve your country. Also, the exemption isn't something that they asked for.
