The thing people miss about this scene is that as soon as Jr makes that phone call Walt already knows it's over and is going into his problem-solving survival mode and planning his next move. The main reason he takes the daughter is because he knows the police are going to show up and he can never go back, so he has to pretend to kidnap her to paint her and his wife as "victims" of his controlling behavior. In the following phone call Walt tells Skyler that there would be consequences if she betrayed him, and kidnapping Holly further paints him in a negative light when trying to spare Skyler from the scrutiny of the police. As horrible and egotistical as Walt is, the one value he never abandons is to provide for and protect his family, even if that value has been irrevocably distorted by his heavy actions.

@@vilsonraska2889 @ImCallingJapan It IS understandable. By all means not condonable nor morally acceptable; but understandable? Sure. From Walt's desperate and irrational perspective, filled with fear, rage, and sadness it is understandable. Haven't you ever made a very wrong decision because of being under a lot of pressure and unable to think things through? I mean sure, you probably haven't done anything THAT bad, but there again, you've probably never been in a situation THAT bad either, where a series of poor choices led to the destruction of your own life and family by your own hands. @@vilsonraska2889 You're kinda missing the point my dude. You're still interpreting OP's comment (and by extension, mine as well) under a black-white morality. You're interpreting understandable as "correct" or "viable", or even "justifiable". Which makes sense, since they're often used to replace each other, so your perspective is understandable (see what I did there? ha). Thing is, understandable literally means something you can comprehend, despite your acceptance or opinion on it. It's a purely rational statement, not a biased one. What OP meant (or at least my take from his comment) is that Walt's actions are understandable because with enough empathy and insight, you can see how a certain situation can lead a person to act in such a way. Now, if that his actions are correct, agreeable, or even common, that is another separate matter. It's not about "supporting" Walt's choices, it's about "understanding" how a person can be lead to such degrees of "darkness".

This is the best scene in the whole series to me. And it's because all the threads are expose in the form of walter jr. He was manipulated into hate his own mother, into resented her, manipulated by Walt and even by Skyler who took that cross in order to protect his family. But now he has to digest everything in a few minutes, and realized everything. And he was brave enough to protect his mom in front of a killer, anda call the police knowing that's gonna end it all. He took stand against the monster, to protect his family. And speaking of acting, Anna Gunn here is in another level, unreal performance.

Personally I never got how people sided with Walt so much. A lot of people hated his family but I spent the series wishing that they would tell him to gtfo, I loved when he realized that he couldn’t control them like his puppets anymore. He manipulated them and lied to them and put them in danger god knows how many times. Walt holds his pride and ego so dear to him that he actually expects his family to love and appreciate him for becoming a murderer and meth kingpin, he’s delusional. Walt isn't really a murderer. He only killed people in self defense when he had no other choice. As far as the meth goes, Walt's formula is the best. People are going to use meth anyways, they may as well use the most chemically pure variety created by an artist who takes pride in his work. Walt is a selfless man. Everything he has done in the series, from cooking meth to killing other people, has been help out his fellow man.

WOW. From 1:52 - 2:40 is only 48 seconds long? Just finished this show and I recall this scene feeling more like 20 minutes. The sound design here made this scene 100% one of the most intense, real-feeling segments from the entire show. That deep, dark, ascending heart beat just getting louder as Skyler realizes the monster in her house is getting away with her child really absorbed me HARD here. Hell... without the soundtrack it would still be amazing because of the incredible acting, but the soundtrack here just makes up 80% of the intensity... Best show ever.
